Country Billboard Chart News September 5, 2012

TobyMac lands his first chart-topper, EYE ON IT, debuts with 68,895 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It simultaneously debuts at No. 1 on our Christian Albums chart. 47-year old Toby McKeehan (born Kevin Michael McKeehan better known by his stage name TobyMac (styled tobyMac), is a Christian recording artist, music producer, hip-hop/pop artist, singer-songwriter, and author.
The last time a Christian set led the Billboard Top 200 was on the Nov. 1, 1997, chart, when LeAnn Rimes ' "You Light Up My Life - Inspirational Songs" spent its third and final week at No. 1. (It debuted in the top slot on Sept. 27.) That album led the Christian Albums tally for 35 weeks.

Carrie Underwood saw a week on week 87% boost in sales for BLOWN AWAY. Last week it sold 14,903 copies and this week  27,611 fans took the album home, returning her back to #1 slot on the Top Billboard Country Albums chart and from #21 to #8 on the Top 200.

In its 18th retail week, this huge spike was thanks in part to a $6.99 sale in the iTunes store. BLOWN AWAY has now held #1 on Top Country Albums for the sixth week. That puts the album in a tie with Lady Antebellum's OWN THE NIGHT for the most weeks at #1 so far in 2012.
Last year Own The Night gained an additional seven weeks atop the charts. With 749,250 copies of BLOWN AWAY sold to date its within touching distance of ¾-million sales at retail and represents the year's top-selling album by a core country artist, edging out this weeks #3 Country album by Luke Bryan with TAILGATES & TANLINES which has had a 56 week Billboard Chart history since its release.

'Blown Away' is Carrie’s fourth album and it has been certified Platinum by the RIAA ( 1-million units shipped) in a week which see’s her gaining her seventh CMA Female Vocalist nomination.

Colt Ford’s DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE moves up to #6 on Country chart with steady sales (9,822 copies sold). In 4 weeks it has sold 68,692. Colt’s previous outing EVERY CHANCE I GET has sold 159,000 copies.
Hunter Hayes’ self-titled album at #7 (#37 Top 200) saw sales increase this week by 6% (228,346 tally) benefiting from strong radio support for his digital single hit “Wanted.”

Josh Turner with his new album LIVE ACROSS AMERICA, an exclusive with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, has debuted at #9 on the Top Country Albums chart and #46 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. We’re so very pleased to see that our guests have embraced this exclusive new CD with Josh Turner and supported it onto the Top 10 list,” said Cracker Barrel Marketing Manager Julie Craig. “We have enjoyed working with Josh, and hope that many more of our guests will ‘take to the road’ with this CD.”  (Source EB Media )

Also debuting on Country Charts at #24 (#133 Top 200) is Thomas Rhett with is self-titled EP which sold 3,323. His singles “Something To Do With My Hands” and “Beer With Jesus” have shown on radio airplay charts.
Thomas grew up around the music business and witnessed how fickle and volatile it can be, by way of his dad, country singer and songwriter Rhett Akins' career in the mid-'90s. Rhett has written singles for other country music singers, including five Number One songs, "Gimmie That Girl" by Joe Nichols, "All About Tonight" and "Honey Bee" by Blake Shelton, "All Over Me" by Josh Turner and "Take a Back Road" by Rodney Atkins.

Thomas can count co-wrote cuts for Lee Brice (“Parking Lot Party”), Scotty McCreery (“Write My Number on Your Hand”) and “I Ain't Ready to Quit” which was recorded by Jason Aldean on MY KINDA PARTY.
Thomas signed with Big Machine/Valory Music Company in 2011. He was thrilled to be working with Eric Church producer Jay Joyce on this his first CD, and is thankful for the ground paved by artists who mesh styles and continue to broaden the parameters of modern country - "Thank goodness for Jason Aldean and Brantley Gilbert and Colt Ford and Eric and those guys paving the way," says Thomas. "That's a very brave, brave move on all of their parts, especially Aldean and Brantley to release "Dirt Road Anthem."
The "Thomas Rhett EP" is now his second EP. His first 6 track EP with the same title was an acoustic affair. Now Thomas Rhett Aka (CIGA Rhett) if you call him by his rap name calls on a full band on his 5 track mini album which is available on Amazon.com
New songs that Thomas Rhett has penned "1994" (a song about Joe Diffie) is slated be recorded by Jason Aldean on his forthcoming album "Night Train"

THE ROYS sophomore Rural Rhythm Records’ disc, NEW DAY DAWNING, a seven-song EP, did not chart on the Country chart but instead debuts at Number 2 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums Chart.
Press Blurb: Their impressive traditional-style vocals ride high over progressive musicianship, keeping the duo’s sound fresh and energizing. Their songwriting talents are truly remarkable, and the disc’s first single release, “Still Standing,” written by Lee and Elaine is already proving to be another “winner.”  Other highlights include the live-show favorite “Grandpa’s Barn,” the heartbreaking “Daddy To Me,” the moving “Windin’ Roads” and the hypnotic “Fast As We Roll.”
Reviewers are hailing NEW DAY DAWNING, saying:
The album showcases Lee and Elaine’s smooth, enjoyable brand of modern, Country-influenced Bluegrass.” – BLUEGRASS TODAY
On their new studio album, NEW DAY DAWNING, the brother/sister duo continues to blend an uplifting message with a traditional sound and sibling harmonies as they take time to reflect on their own roots.” – GAC
