Calvin Harris’ One Kiss collaboration with Dua Lipa
is not to be moved, spending its fifth straight week at the top of the chart.
Thus surpassing his first No.1 – 2008 Dizzee Rascal
& Chrome collaboration Dance Wiv Me – to have the longest uninterrupted run
at the summit of all his nine chart-toppers – it again does so with consummate
ease, heading up a top five that are all frozen in the same positions as last
week, while suffering declining sales. They are: One Kiss (1-1, 62,000 sales,
including 43,813 from sales-equivalent streams), Nice For What (2-2, 45,597
sales) by Drake, No Tears Left To Cry (3-3, 43,541 sales) by Ariana Grande,
Freaky Friday (4-4, 37,655 sales) by Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown and 2002 (5-5,
35,572 sales) by Anne-Marie.
Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey with "The
Middle" fell 12-17 (19K estimated overall units)
"Meant To Be" By Bebe Rexha ft
Florida Georgia 15-36 (11K estimated units)
After finishing 24th out of 26 at The Eurovision Song
Contest, where she had to endure a scary stage invasion, UK entry Surie’s Storm at least had the
consolation of being the highest charting domestic entry for four years.
Opening at No.50 (7,949 sales) it is only the fourth UK entry to bag a Top 50
slot in the past decade following Jade Ewen’s It’s My Time (No.27, 2009),
Blue’s I Can (No.16, 2011) and, most recently, Molly’s Children Of The Universe
(No.23, 2014). Netta, who provided the fourth win in the competition for
Israel, goes one better with her winning song Toy debuting at No.49 (7,973
sales). Greek-born Eleni Foureira’s Fuego – runner-up representing Cyprus –
also charts (No.64, 6,376 sales).

(18 May 2018) Stephanie
Owens - Stephanie Owens (EP; 2018 Stephanie Owens)
Singer-songwriter, Actress, Model: Newcomer country
artist Stephanie Owens (Stephanie Bettcher Owens) is excited to share her story
with the world through her debut EP, a collection of songs that creatively
captures both the raw vulnerability and bold intentionality of her personality
and music.
Each of the five songs on Stephanie’s upcoming EP, all
of which she co-wrote, highlight her dynamic voice and eclectic musical tastes.
Her debut single, “Heart Taker,” immediately captures listeners with its
1980s-throwback countrified groove. “Little Girl in the Mirror,” her second
single off the EP, is a poignant reflection on Stephanie’s teenage struggles
with body image and identity. She believes this song will resonate in today’s
culture. “Rest,” is a heartfelt ballad
whose storytelling nature reveals Stephanie’s trust in the Lord throughout all
circumstances, even when life does not seem to make sense. Stephanie’s spunky
nature and sense of humor shine through the swagger of “Behind the Wheel,” a
catchy tune with strong country musical roots.

18: #3 US Singer/Songwriters (#179 US iTunes all-genre)
Dancing with the Beast, the new album from Gretchen
Peters, puts female characters at the fore, from teenage girls to old women.
And intentionally so. With the 2017 Women's March and the #MeToo Movement as
bookends to her writing time, Peters knew that a feminist perspective would be
the critical core of the record. She admits, "You can trace the feminist
DNA in my songwriting back to 'Independence Day' and probably before. The thing
that 2017 did is just put it front and center." Though Peters doesn't
consider herself a political writer, she is politically minded and, therefore,
knew she had to address the 2016 election and all that has happened since...
but in her own way.

“Willis steps
into the solo spotlight with her seventh full-length project, an enchanting
collection of self-penned tunes and impeccably chosen covers. Showcasing the
jagged, vulnerable vocals of a honky-tonk angel who's also freely dabbled in
rockabilly, power pop, new wave and R&B, it's that last genre that informs
the dazzling title tune” lauds Rolling Stone Country. Read HERE.

lyrical and musical inspiration.

sound out of place in Lindy Hop, Harlem or the heart of the deep South. With an
unabashed embrace of gleeful, melodic choruses delivered in Jill’s
unmistakeable warm and heart-wrenching voice.

Billy Dean turned to social media on Thursday (May 17) to share a
song that he has written that was inspired by First Lady Melania Trump. Dean revealed
"Be Best" and shared the lyrics on Facebook
after performing the song at a very special luncheon.
According to a press release, Dean wrote the song in a
hotel room on Monday night (May 14), the day before he was slated to attend the
Congressional Club’s First Lady's Luncheon in Washington, D.C. "Be
Best" takes its title from Mrs. Trump's child welness initiative. He
performed the song at the luncheon the following day at the Washington Hilton
Hotel, though not for Mrs. Trump herself. The First Lady ended up being
hospitalized for emergency kidney surgery and had to miss the event.

(15 May 2018) CMA Presents 'The Country Consumer: The Next
Phase Of Streaming Growth' At Music Biz 2018
During the afternoon sessions at MUSIC BIZ 2018, the Country Music Association (CMA)
presented "The Country Consumer: The Next Phase Of Streaming Growth."
Introduced by CMA Sr. Dir./Research KAREN STUMP, the panel was moderated by UMG
NASHVILLE's Annie Ortmeier and featured AMAZON MUSIC's Emily Cohen, PANDORA's
BEVILLE DUNKERLEY, YOUTUBE/GOOGLE's Margaret Hart, and SPOTIFY's Brittany
Schaeffer.
During an overview of the panel, Stump presented
research slides from the CMA detailing five key insights about Country and
streaming. They were as follows: Country lags, however, there are positive
signs for successful opportunities today and going forward; Country trending
shows streaming consumption is making up a greater share of overall Country
consumption globally; current Country audience streamers recognize the value
proposition streaming offers; the Country audience is a core, monetizable
audience active on streaming today; and the Country audience presents a key
segment for targeting new subscribers, which can have a significant pay-off.
Additionally, data shows that Country is
still among the most loyal audiences to physical consumption, with 30% still purchasing physical albums via
CD.
The audience continues to be
slow to change, as they
also show in their streaming habits; only 28% of the Country music streamed is
current, while 72% is from artist catalogs. For radio, this equates to the
statement of nearly three-fourths of the audience preferring recurrent and gold
titles in rotation, though the streaming numbers are reflective of on-demand
listening.
Additionally, streaming companies are pouring
marketing dollars in to the Country marketplace currently to continue
converting new users. Schaeffer summed up the efforts at SPOTIFY by saying,
"How do we tell a consistent story on and off platform, utilizing all the
tools we have?" The same could be said of radio, as terrestrial continues
to work to earn and maintain loyal listeners in a crowded audio landscape.
(17 May 2018) A New Music Streaming Service, YouTube
Music, Is Coming Soon
Another Streamer: YOUTUBE is joining the music
streaming landscape with the launch of YOUTUBE
MUSIC. The free offering will get underway alongside Youtube Music Premium,
a paid membership that "gives you background listening, downloads, and an

are a subscriber to GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC, good news, you get a YOUTUBE MUSIC
PREMIUM membership as part of your subscription each month. And, if you use
GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC, nothing will change -- you’ll still be able to access all of
your purchased music, uploads, and playlists in Google Play Music, just like
always."
The company is rolling out the new YOUTUBE MUSIC
experience in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea. It
will expand more broadly in the coming weeks, adding Austria, Canada, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden,

COUNTRY GOSSIP
(18 May 2018) Bebe Rexha felt
"disrespected" by the backlash surrounding her, Rita Ora, Cardi B and
Charli XCX's new song Girls.
The quartet have come under fire for the tune, the
lyrics of which many sex rights activists have blasted as "dangerous"
and "belittling". Rita has apologized for the track, revealing she
counts herself as bisexual and had no idea the words, such as "Sometimes I
just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls/Red wine, I just wanna kiss girls, girls
girls", would upset others.
However, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly
magazine, Bebe insisted she doesn't feel as though she should apologize for the
song because it reflects who she is.
"My sexual life is nobody’s business," she
said. "But we’re singing a song about kissing girls and that remains true
to who I am. It’s the life that I live and it’s honest to me.
"The question of whether (the song) was true to
us was completely dismissed. People automatically went for the negative instead
of saying: ‘Well maybe these girls do kiss girls, maybe Bebe is bi.’ You don’t
know about my sexual orientation, so I felt disrespected."
Opening up further about her sexuality, Bebe
continued: "I’ve kissed girls, you know what I mean? And I don’t do it
because it’s fun or whatever. Do you have to be fully lesbian to put out a song
about kissing girls? What if you’re bi? Isn’t the point of being supportive of
the LGBTQ community that you can love whoever you want and everything is fluid
and non-judgmental?"
The girls had also been accused of penning the song
and using controversial lyrics in a bid to chase a hit. However, Bebe hit back
at those claims, insisting: "That would be pretty f**ked up. And I’d agree
with where the critics are coming from (in that case). Everybody can have their
own opinion."
