2013 Grammy Awards report, Nominees & Winners, Performances,
Tweets, Video and Gossip!

The 55th Grammy Awards took place on February 10, 2013 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. For a second time it was hosted by LL Cool J. and the show was broadcast live on CBS.
The ratings for the 2013 Grammy Awards showed huge numbers but were sharply down from last year’s record high audience. There were 28.37 million viewers which were down from 39.9 million viewers. Last year’s ceremony was fuelled by the sudden and shocking death of Whitney Houston the night before and the 2012 Grammy tribute performances given during the show provided a moving and unforgettable memory.
Back on in December 5, 2012 Nashville became the announcement showcase for the Grammy Nominations shown on prime-time television as part of "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! The one-hour special co-hosted by LL Cool J & Taylor Swift from the Bridgestone Arena.

The Country Music Grammy Winners
Carrie Underwood, the Zac Brown Band and Taylor Swift added to their Grammys collection on the Sunday night (Feb. 10) along with Little Big Town who marked their first Grammy win.

Carrie won her Grammy for "Blown Away" for Best Country Solo Performance with her title cut which has to date sold 1.9 million copies in America.
The victory brings Underwood's career Grammy haul to six. In past years, she collected trophies for Best New artist, Best Female country performance ("Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Before He Cheats" and "Last Name") and Best Country Collaboration with her vocals offering on "I Told You So" with Randy Travis.

"Country music has always been so good to me, and I thank the good Lord that I'm a part of such a wonderful, talented, amazing family. There are a lot of people to be thankful for," said Underwood, who then name checked a number of business associates in her winning acceptance speech. "The fans who have been coming out and watching us put on shows and supporting all of us, you guys are the reason we get to do what we do. My family and my amazing, perfect husband, Mike. This is really glory to God. Thank you so much," she added.

‘Blown Away’s songwriters Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins (pictured below) were on hand to accept for the hit country song. They gave thanks to their wives and Kear gave a shout out to powerhouse songstress Carrie for making the tune he penned with Tompkins a success story.

The hit song writing pairing of Kear and Tompkins is also credited with writing ‘Before He Cheats, which was Underwood’s 2008 Grammy winner,’ so they make quite a Team Carrie! The lovely singer speaks at the Grammy Press room >> YouTube

Zac Brown Band bagged the Best Country Album trophy for UNCAGED. It was released on July 10, 2012 and topped both the Billboard Top 200 and Billboard Country Album charts. It is heading towards 1.7 million copies sold stateside.
As the bands foremost representative Brown said, "I want to thank all of the people that help us to do what we do, all of our whole team. I want to thank country radio. ... To all my guys who have always backed me up and backed my playing no matter what it was. Much love to everyone who supports us. Thank you all. The fans, our families -- we love you."
Brown was dressed the part wearing a black fedora instead of his country standard beanie look!
Zac Brown previously won Grammys for Best New artist category as well as Best Country Collaboration when they joined forces with Alan Jackson on the No.1 hit "As She's Walking Away"

Hunter Hayes who was nominated in the all genre Best New artist category was edged out along with Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers by Fun.
British Stadium/folk rockers Mumford & Sons' won the Grammy for Album of the Year with BABEL. They were the Jan/Feb cover feature in the UK’s Maverick Magazine and have recently charted on the Billboard Country Airplay chart along with The Lumineers proving that the edges of the country music church continue to be blurred.
Britain’s Adele presented them with the award, to the band’s surprise making the UK victory even sweeter! - “There’s a few of us out there, they noted. We’re very grateful to all of this country and the Grammy Foundation for being so welcoming to us and our music. The shocked London folk-rocker Marcus Mumford said: "We figured we weren't going to win anything because The Black Keys have been sweeping up all day, rightfully so” >> Watch the Video at www.grammy.com
Marcus Mumford also performed a tribute (see image) to the late Levon Helm at the Awards who died of cancer on April 19, 2012.
As of Feb 21, 2013 the album has sold 1,921,852 copies in America and shifted over 600,000 units in its first week at retail in September 2012, making it the fourth-best-selling album last year.

Little Big Town and Taylor Swift picked up their Grammys during a pre-telecast ceremony on the Sunday afternoon. Off-camera, the upbeat LBT quartet enthusiastically grabbed their first Grammy for 2012’s country summer smash "Pontoon" in the category of Best Country Duo/Group performance.

After over a decade making country music the hard work is now bringing Little Big Town award success. “We wanted one of these for so long!” Kimberly Schlapman said as she led her long-time band mates onto the stage to be presented by David Alan Grier.
This is such a long time coming for us, we’re so thrilled,” Phillip Sweet said.

Taylor shared her win with The Civil Wars and T Bone Burnett for the track "Safe & Sound" which featured in the film The Hunger Games in the Best Song written for Visual Media category. Swift has now won seven career Grammys and The Civil Wars' made it their third.

WE JUST WON A GRAMMY FOR SAFE AND SOUND!!!!!!!!!!” Swift announced to fans on Twitter after the win. She was additionally up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the same song and Record of the Year for ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ but went empty handed.

Despite their success with a Gold album for BARTON HOLLOW, The Civil Wars duo broke up in November 2012 whilst touring the UK. John Paul White with a typical dry sense of humour said that they had been “carrying Taylor for some time now

63-year old Bonnie Raitt claimed her tenth Grammy, this time in the Americana category for her album SLIPSTREAM.
Bonnie on her win shared: "I'm so happy. That's where my heart is. Americana covers so much of what I love and crosses generations." She said, "Acoustic music hasn't gone away."
Asked why Americana music as a genre seems to be popular, the legendary blues woman shrugged. "You know, great music just rises to the top, great melodies and people that mean it when they sing them," she said, then adding with a smile, "It's refreshing when it comes around again, but where I'm from it's always in."
In 1998 all rounder Raitt won four for Album of the Year (Nick Of Time), Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Traditional Blues Recording ("I'm In The Mood") which propelled her back into the music fast lane. Three more followed in 1992 and in 1995 she won Best Pop Vocal Album
Fast forward to 2013 and she spills - "The fact that the public is buying these records is amazing. For me to eke through this year,
......"I was a Quaker, my family was political, and although I was already a folkie then, there was something about his records," she said. "It set me on a path of wanting to play folk music."

The Best Folk album Grammy was presented to The Goat Rodeo Sessions and performers Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile [of Nickel Creek fame]

Kelly Clarkson who was nominated in the Female Vocalist section at the 2012 CMA’s picked up her third career Grammy for Best Pop Album for STRONGER.
Pop star-turned-country crooner Kelly made a jumbled, spur-of-the-moment speech that referenced Miranda Lambert in a humorous aside. As Clarkson made her way to the podium, she got attached momentarily to Lambert — much to the apparent amusement of both women, as well as Lambert’s husband, Blake Shelton.

55th Annual Grammys -10 Feb 2013

Presenter Keith Urban got a hug before Clarkson addressed the crowd, saying, “I’m so sorry, I got stuck to Miranda Lambert! There’s a story in a song! … for later, after alcohol.” Maybe Lionel Richie should have hired them to cut Stuck On You on his TUSKEGEE country project.
As Shelton — who likes a drink himself now and again (ahem) — looked on laughing, she added, “I’m just kidding, children!” The star, who shot to fame when she won the first season of ‘American Idol,’ said apprehensively, “I get nervous speaking in front of people.
A surprised Kelly who is due to marry in the Autumn thanked her manager, Narvel Blackstock (Father-in-law to be / Reba McEntire‘s husband) and her fiancĂ©, Brandon Blackstock, (McEntire’s stepson / Manager to Blake Shelton)who is sexy tonight, y’all!”
Clarkson also gave a fellow artist the recognition he deserved for his show stopping mini-performance before her award was announced: "Miguel, I don't know who the hell you are," she said. "But we need to sing together."

Later in the show, Kelly sang musical tributes to Lifetime Achievement Award winners Patti Page and Carole King -- two women who were honored with Grammy Lifetime Achievement awards. (The honours had been announced prior to Page's death on Jan 1, 2013 at the age of 85)

Page was remembered in a montage of music figures that have died within the last year. The vintage footage spotlighted Country Music Hall of Fame members Frances Preston, Earl Scruggs and Kitty Wells, as well as Grammy winners Andy Griffith and Doc Watson. Songwriters Joe South (the Grammy-winning "Games People Play") and Billy Strange were also featured in the montage, along with former Nashville music executives Rick Blackburn and Donna Hilley and pioneering banjo player Doug Dillard.
Tennessee Waltz,’ which was Patti’s best-known track was the song Clarkson performed on the Sunday night (Feb. 10) giving a very strong rendition of the multi-million seller along with King’s signature song ‘I Feel the Earth Move.’

Kelly and Adele were all smiles when they attended the Sony Music Grammy Reception following the awards at Bar Nineteen 12 on in Beverly Hills, Calif. The 30-year-old singer then joined her fiancé Brandon, Blake Shelton and his wife Miranda Lambert for a double-date at Red O in West Hollywood.

Nashvillian Jack White performed and Music City singer-songwriter Janis Ian, won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word album for Society's Child: My Autobiography.
Past Grammy winners Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Keith Urban were present to acts as Grammy presenters this time round rather than recipients. “Soul 2 Soul” singers Tim and Faith presented the award for Song of the Year to fun. for "We Are Young" (watch here) and Keith Urban joined The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco for the presentation to Miss Kelly Clarkson.

Eclectic crossover artist Joan Osbourne, the Dolly “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” singer, was nominated in Blues category said: "When I first started singing these were the types of people I was emulating, people like Etta James, Otis Redding."
On blues trending today: "You look at bands like Alabama Shakes and The Black Keys, they're steeped in the blues."
Joan Osborne is a seven-time Grammy Award nominee, celebrated her 2013 Grammy nomination with appearances on Hallmark’s Home & Family, CBS Los Angeles, HuffPost Live and more. She was due to appear at The Troubadour with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell with Friends on Saturday, Feb. 9. "Any Grammy nomination is a wonderful thing. But it's especially sweet to be recognized for an album I co-produced with my old friend Jack Petruzzelli, that features my amazing road band.  It was a real home-grown labor of love on everyone's part," said Osborne. Country Grammy Performances
Country-pop superstar Taylor Swift opened the 2013 Grammy Awards with a huge Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland-themed production performance of her worldwide smash hit ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’
Taylor Swift opens the 2013 Grammys

Dressed in white and with matching shiny thigh-high boots ( ‘Dominatrix in Wonderland’?) and donned a top hat (Photo !), Swift in “Mad Hatter” mode strode the stage with confidence, sharing it with a troop of mime clowns and delivering her vocals “apparently live” [her voice was weaker in the live element than on the studio record]
The theme was “all circus” was her last relationship a media spun circus?

Hollywood Life give their professional verdicts

Carrie Underwood delivered one of the most impressive vocal performances of the night as she sang snippets of both ‘Blown Away’ and current country radio single ‘Two Black Cadillacs’. Young rising star Hunter Hayes introduced his tour mate by singing a piece of his hit ‘Wanted’ before Underwood presented a stripped-down acoustic version of ‘Blown Away,’ which was starker, raw and even more emotive, than the big, glossy pop-country production we are familiar with.
Carrie lit up the stage quite literally for her performance which was an impressive, highly visually affair and, with lasers projecting graphics onto Underwood’s dress — which required her to stand still while she sang. (See Live Photo)
Underwood said the seed of the idea was from an LED dress she wore on her tour.
"Her dress became a show of its own," USA Today declared
"This is projection but ... well, I probably should tell my secrets," she said with a smile. "But there are so many big performances at the Grammys and sometimes I like to just stand still and perform. So (the dress) was the best way to do it, to create a cool environment."
Ditching her form-fitting red carpet Roberto Cavalli number for the princess-y LED silver gown, Underwood told reporters backstage: “We wanted it to be artful and dramatic,”
Images of sparkling stars, rose petals and butterflies appeared on the platinum ball gown as Carrie sang >> Carrie Gif

Reports showed that four people needed 80 hours to make the gown. The Theia couture platinum ball gown featured 10 yards of satin along with 100 yards of tulle and crinoline to support the skirt. The inside corset was hand-embroidered with thousands of Swarovski crystals, and the 4 1/2-foot-wide skirt, approved by the line’s creative director Don O’Neil, was designed to seamlessly fuse fashion with projection technology
Over the course of six days, fabrics were shipped from France to Carrie's stylist team (Trish Townsend) for approval and to a video production company to make sure it was compatible with the projection technology that would be used to make it change patterns every few seconds.

O’Neill was thrilled with the result too, especially because he took the line’s name from the Greek goddess of light. “There couldn’t be a more perfect opportunity to fuse light in a literal sense with one of my gowns,” he says in a statement, “and have it showcased on a national stage by Carrie Underwood, the first celebrity to wear a Theia dress four years ago when we launched.”

"I'm excited to be performing on the Grammy awards and honoured that they would have me back," said the superstar entertainer. "I've been lucky enough to have performed on it several times and have been a part of some cool moments on the show, like the Michael Jackson tribute with Celine Dion, Usher, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson." Carrie notes that the Grammys remain important to artists like her because so many musical genres are jockeying to be featured on the live show.
"I definitely feel like a representative for country music. The Grammys represent so many types of music and there are only so many slots available for people to perform. I'm honored and want to do the best job I possibly can to represent our format and show everybody what they might be missing in country music, and make them jump on the bandwagon for country music”
Of the night's performances, she was particularly taken by The Weight, the ensemble tribute to the late The Band drummer Levon Helm. "I love seeing those collaborations that would never happen anywhere else, it's always cool to see," she said.
Underwood also was proud to see Nashville-based artists and country music in particular so well represented at the 55th Grammys.

In the moving tribute fallen drummer/singer Levon Helm, Zac Brown and Nashville producer T Bone Burnett joined Elton John and Mavis Staples to perform his best-known song, the Band’s classic ‘The Weight.’
Helm, who was a major influence on several of the night’s winners and performers, left behind a musical legacy that included songs like ‘Up on Cripple Creek’ and ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.’ He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Band.
Levon Helm Tribute at the 55th Annual Grammy
Zac Brown and his band kicked off the tribute with a down-to-Earth performance of ‘The Weight,’ joined by Elton, Mumford & Sons, T Bone Burnett and Mavis Staples.
Brown turned in the strongest performance and Taste of Country suggested that Staples seemed to overstay her welcome onstage, over-singing the end of the tune in an apparent effort to bring more attention to herself — which had Bonnie Raitt

The Glitter and Grit came courtesy of RCA records Miranda Lambert and Capital Nashville artist Dierks Bentley with their set “Over You” and “Home”.

X Factor’ 2012 winner Tate Stevens kept reappearing in a Pepsi commercial that featured his debut single. Fans had to search to hear ‘Holler if You’re With Me’ in its entirety. Taste Of Country reacted by saying “it sounded like a legit smash in the 30 second soda spot”
Stevens the Belton, Missouri native who captivated viewers worldwide on FOX’s The X Factor Season 2 with his emotive and powerful country vocal performances was never placed less than second throughout the entire competition.
Stevens unveiled a first look of the debut music video with “Holler” complements of The X Factor sponsor Pepsi, as part of the grand prize awarded to Stevens in addition to his $5 million recording contract with Mr. Simon Cowell’s Syco Music/RCA Nashville. Here is the >> Video  Hit or Miss?
Additionally, the song, “Holler If You’re With Me,” is now available for download on UK iTunes beginning Tuesday, February 5.
(Update 8 Feb ) Sales for the song have got off to a very slow start. It in its first few days of release, "Holler If You're With Me" was floundering in the 90s on the iTunes Top 100 Songs chart before the song dropped off of the chart. On Feb 13 it was at #469 on ITunes Top 1500 Singles and Albums.
The Grammy Awards telecast exposure failed to ignite an increase sales for the song.
"Holler" bombed on the iTunes' Top 100 Songs (U.S.) chart  and hasn't been getting a lot of airplay at country radio. The song debuted at #50 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and #54 on the Billboard Country Digital Chart (Sales unknown but the No.30 chart place sold 14,000 copies, so Tate sold considerably less than that)
As of Feb 21st “Holler” had dropped off both the Top 50 country charts.
With sales not picking up considerably and with that kind of Grammy TV exposure, country radio not appearing to back the song, then "Holler” must be deemed a giant flop.
Stevens began working on his first album in January, which will include songs that Stevens co-wrote. According to an RCA Nashville press release, the album will feature his collaborations with Joe Diffie, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, Shane Minor and David Lee Murphy. Blake Chancey is the album's producer.
Tate’s new single, which is vastly better, is titled “Power of a Love Song” written by Bradley Gaskin, Jeremy Bussey, and Mark Johnson.

2013 Grammy Gossip

Where the heck was Blake?
Blake Shelton didn’t walk the red carpet or do interviews with E! prior to the show — a strange decision for a Grammy nominee with new music and a popular television show to promote. It was odd not to see him escorting his wife Miranda through the red carpet media circus.
Miranda Lambert with

55th Annual Grammys
Sony Music After Party

After his recent controversy regarding his comments on GAC's Backstory when he made some disparaging remarks about traditional country fans was he trying to keep a deliberate low profile?

On 11 Feb tabloids circulated rumours that Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift had to be kept separate at the 2013 Grammys because of a feud between the two country superstars. Anonymous ”sources” said the two “hate each other” and executives at the awards show had to make sure they didn’t cross paths. According to Underwood herself none of it’s true.
She set the record straight during an interview with ‘CBS This Morning.’ There’s no feud, and she doesn’t know who started that pesky rumour. “In every magazine, in every pretty much newspaper or gossip TV shows, they can just get away with it by saying ‘a source said …’,” Underwood explained
I read the most ridiculous things about myself when people do that.”
When put on the spot, the Grammy winner said that ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ was her favourite song of Swift’s. “I like the branching out, trying some different sounds,” she adds.
It may be true Underwood and Swift are not friends — as Underwood stated in an interview with Allure magazine — but “not friends” is a long way away from mortal enemies. The fact is that the pair just don’t hang with the same circles, explains.
We run into each other at events. We’re never in the same place at the same time,” Underwood said (quote via StarCrush.com). The alleged source was rumoured to be a friend of Swift’s who says the ‘Begin Again’ singer feels Underwood is rude to her. Swift has yet to comment on the story.
After Carrie finished singing at the Grammy’s. You can see her get a standing ovation except for one person in the front  row…Taylor – she was clapping but she was also sitting.

Wishful Thinking? Internet rumours? A picture is worth a 1,000 words?
Adele, Chris Brown Argument?
Adele reportedly calls out Chris Brown for dissing Frank Ocean
If there's one woman to stand up to Chris Brown, it's Adele.
The self-proclaimed loudmouth reportedly called out Rihanna's on-again beau at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, yelling at him for not standing up for Frank Ocean when he won Best Urban Contemporary Album. Brown was nominated in the same category, but decided to remain seated while the rest of the audience members rose to their feet to cheer on Ocean as he made his way to the stage.
In the snapped inside the theatre, Adele can be seen confronting a sulking Brown -- although the cameras were unable to catch what she said to him. Still, Brown looked pretty taken aback by the 24-year-old British beauty, who is obviously not afraid to tell it like it is. Later, the pair was seen smiling together, so apparently they worked out the issue!
Just weeks before, Brown and Ocean got into a brawl in a parking lot in West Hollywood.
Ocean said Brown punched him, and that someone from Brown's entourage called him a "faggot." Days later, Ocean decided not to press charges, but it seems Brown does not let things go

Miranda Lambert is not backing down.
The country star, 29, still stands by her Twitter rant against Chris Brown, 23, after he performed twice at the Grammy Awards in February 2012. Lambert was disgusted by his appearance at the event, tweeting, "He beat on a girl…not cool that we act like that didn't happen."
"He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place," she added, "Not at the Grammys." ("Gunpowder and Lead" is Lambert's hit song about a woman who gears up to kill her abusive husband as soon as he's released from jail).
In the February issue of Redbook, Blake Shelton's number one lady discusses her bashing of Brown and admits she feels the same about the situation almost a year later.
"I didn't feel right about not saying something. The loudmouth that I am, I say what I think," Miranda tells Redbook. "I wanted everyone to know that I don't agree with the message it's sending to young women. It's not okay. At all. To be celebrated after doing something like that."
"I don’t think it's right, I never will, and I will stand by what I said till the day that I die," Lambert continued.
Of course, Lambert is referring to Brown's now infamous assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna following the Grammys in 2009. Although RiRi has forgiven him, it sounds like Miranda cannot .. and will not.
Pictures of Chris Brown and Rihanna were taken looking very relaxed and happy together at the Grammy Awards 2013.
(Update Feb 19, 2013 ) Rihanna and Chris Brown have reportedly cooled their newly rekindled relationship after a bust-up at the Grammys after the 'We Found Love' star allegedly sent a text to Drake.
The 'Where Have You Been' singer, who previously dated the Canadian rapper, is said to have angered R&B star Chris after he spotted her texting the 'Take Care' rapper during the Grammy Awards.
"Chris and Rihanna had a big bust-up at the Grammys over Drake," a source revealed to The Sun this week.
"She was messaging him and Chris saw and it didn't go down well."Since that night they have barely spoken and have been doing their own things," they continued. "For now they have split!
Oh how simple Life is!
