2013 Billboard Music Awards - Nominations
Taylor Swift, fun. and Maroon 5 lead the finalists for the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, which will air live on Sunday, May 19 beginning at 8/7c on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
While all three artists are finalists in a whopping 11 categories this year, Swift and Maroon 5 will also compete for the coveted Top Artist prize at this year's ceremony.
Taylor is coming off of another blockbuster year in which her album RED notched the biggest debut sales week of any album in 2013, while Maroon 5 added more hits to its arsenal with songs like "Payphone," "One More Night" and "Daylight." fun., scored its first No. 1 single with the anthem "We Are Young."
As the biggest names in music go head-to-head the list includes a pair of very famous exes! Both Taylor Swift and Harry Styles (with his band, One Direction) have both found themselves nominated for several major awards. Host 44-year-old comedian Tracy Morgan will need to keep the mood light!
The UK boyband are up for eight prizes, including Top Artist - and will face competition from Taylor, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
Taylor has also advanced to the final round of the fan voted Billboard Milestone Award! Fans can vote everyday at www.billboard.com until May 19th.

Jason Aldean the newly crowned 2013 ACM Male Vocalist of the Year swept up three 2013 Billboard Music Awards nominations highlighted by the all-genre Top Male Artist alongside Justin Bieber, Drake, Bruno Mars and Flo Rida. Aldean is also a finalist for Top Country Album, a category he won last year with his Double Platinum album MY KINDA PARTY, as well as Top Country Artist.
"I'm really proud to be the guy that gets to represent our genre in that 'Top Male' category and wave that flag for country music," said Aldean. "Our genre is bigger and more diverse than ever, and it's just cool to be part of this movement that's happening right now. Billboard Top 200 / Billboard Country Album (Chart week of April 27, 2013)
Rock band Paramore bagged its first No. 1 album on the Billboard Top 200 (BB200) this chart week, beating out Brad Paisley, who debuts at No. 2. with WHEELHOUSE. For Paramore, who sold 106,308 copies, it's the trio's first album since 2009's Brand New Eyes, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 with a 175,000 start.
Paisley who has yet to tally a No. 1 on the BB200 grabs his fourth No. 2 album with Wheelhouse. (All four of Paisley's No. 2 sets have debuted in the runner-up slot.) He's now tied with Sheryl Crow for the most No. 2 albums without a No. 1. Crow strung together four consecutive No. 2 sets between 2002 and 2008.
Paisley’s WHEELHOUSE, released April 9th, launched with sales of 100,441 to top the Billboard Country Album chart making it his lucky seventh No. 1 on the tally. His last album THIS IS COUNTRY MUSIC, released May 23, 2011, opened with 152,598 sales. As of November 2012 the Gold album had sold over 702, 000 units.
For Brad “Wheelhouse” is the smallest opening-week sum with a non-instrumental studio set since "Mud on the Tire"s debuted atop the country chart with 86,000 10 years ago. Paisley scored his biggest weekly sales figure when "5th Gear" blew in with 197,000 in 2007.
In promoting the album he made TV appearances on CBS at 48th Annual ACM Awards; The Ellen DeGeneres Show, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Friday, April 12 on ABC’s Good Morning America.
The album's lead single, "Southern Comfort Zone," topped out at No. 2 on the Country Airplay chart in February, while its follow-up, "Beat This Summer," rises 15-14 this week.
The country singer stretches beyond his comfort zone, prodding the genre into the here and now, lyrically and musically. Its guest lineup ranges from comedian Eric Idle, Charlie Daniels, Mat Kearney, Dierks Bentley, Hunter Hayes and the late Roger Miller to LL Cool J.
Paisley's self-produced new set tackles topics that would have been dealt with only on the fringes a few years ago (if at all), including domestic violence (“Karate” >> YouTube), racism (“Accidental Racist”), xenophobia (“Southern Comfort Zone”) and religion (“Those Crazy Christians”).
"I wrote a bunch of songs that aren't comfortable," he confessed. "And that was the point, really -- for them to be vocally, musically, lyrically, thematically uncomfortable -- or at least new enough to me that I think I had to stretch."
“Accidental Racist,” a track from Wheelhouse, has stirred considerable buzz and controversy. (The consensus is that it was a well-intentioned, but clumsy, attempt to start a conversation about race.)

The track, a collabo with LL Cool J, enters Hot Digital Songs at #50 (based on sales of 43K copies). That puts it ahead of “Beat This Summer,” the first single from the album, which sold 32K copies which Paisley described as "one of the most fun grooves I've ever recorded."

Taste Of Country 3.5 STARS : Brad Paisley‘s ‘Wheelhouse’ delivers a familiar mix of humor, life lessons and scorching guitar solos, but it does it in a way different from any of the other eight albums the ‘Beat This Summer’ singer has released. He took his old formula, balled it up, lit it on fire and tossed the ashes in the garbage. The result is a meaty and ambitious project that doesn’t always click, but clears new ground when it does....Seventeen tracks are too many, even if a few are little more than interludes. The singer earns an extra half star for some daring production. The funky, nuevo-blues open to ‘Outstanding in Our Field’ is one example, even if the story doesn’t quite match the foot-stomping, hill-country blues impression he lays down. A lack of momentum holds back a project that’s full of good ideas spaced apart.
GAC Album Review: ..the total impact of Wheelhouse is felt with a daring and adventurous collection full of striking emotion to create one of the year’s best releases.

The Salt Lake Tribune Grade: B-: However, many of the songs lack memorable hooks and combustible energy that are usually part of the 40-year-old’s charm.
Allmusic 3 STARS: Wheelhouse in general and "Southern Comfort Zone" in particular are cousins of sorts to his multi-cultural paean "American Saturday Night," only blown up to an international scale. Throughout the album, Paisley finds something to celebrate in every little corner of the world, or at the very least, the countries where his career has taken him........but when Paisley does pull it all together, as he does on "Karate" or the joyous "Beat This Summer" (as effervescent a song as he's ever cut), the results are so good they wind up proving his point that more country singers should step outside their wheelhouse

Eric Church's new CAUGHT IN THE ACT: LIVE debuts at No. 5 on the BB200 and No.3 on the Country chart with sales of 61,439. It was recorded over the course of a two-night stand in 2012 at The Tivoli Theatre in Chattaooga. Live tracks include "Creepin'," "Homeboy" and the ACM Song of the Year nominated, "Springsteen".
It’s the CMA and ACM Album of the Year country singer's second top 10 set, following 2011's CHIEF, which debuted at No. 1 and with sales of 19,332, up 28% is fast approaching 1.5 million sales and holds the No.7 country slot.

Allmusic 3.5 STARS: It may not convey some of the subtleties and shading of Church's music, but this is an easy way to mainline the neo-outlaw singer at his hardest.
Country Weekly- B+ The 17-track project, recorded from Eric’s show at the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga, Tenn., captures the natural ebbs and flows of his live set...Outside of that, Eric’s hits like “Creepin’” and “Smoke a Little Smoke” stand out as audience favorites. He wraps it all with “Springsteen,” throwing in a slower, stripped-down version of The Boss’ “Born to Run” as a cool bonus.
The Band Perry who had last weeks’ No.1 Country slot with PIONEER are down to No.4 selling 56,413 copies, down 56%, for a 2-week haul of 185,874.
Alan Jackson in his 3rd week with PRECIOUS MEMORIES: VOL II sold 15,474 copies, down 38% to land at No.10.
Selling 6,547 copies and new at No.70 on BB200 and a No.21 country album placement is Chuck Wicks who released his new 5-song EP, ROUGH, on Tuesday, April 9. Country music fans have eagerly anticipated new music from the “Stealing Cinderella” singer since the release of his debut album STARTING NOW in 2008 which peaked at No. 7 on the Country Billboard chart.

GAC Album : In many ways it’s easy to forget that Rough really is only Chuck’s second release. The man who scored a Top 5 hit in 2007 with his first single, “Stealing Cinderella,” kept his profile up with pursuits including his role as a contestant on the hit television competition Dancing with the Stars. It’s also easy to forget that Rough is a sophomore release because it comes across with such a confident, veteran approach. There’s plenty of easy soul on Rough that shows off Chuck’s consistent delivery. “Whole Damn Thing” is a ¾-time electric ballad that comes off as a somewhat more contemporary country David Nail.....“Saturday Afternoon” and “Salt Life” round out the collection with a dose of sunshine ready for summer.
Got Countryonline.com 3.5 STARS: Chuck Wicks’ single, “Stealing Cinderella”, had the biggest debut for any new country artist (it peaked at number 5 on Billboard’s Top Country chart) in 2007. In the song, a man is asking his girlfriend’s father for her hand in marriage, knowing how hard it is for her dad to see his little girl grown up. (The debut album, Starting Now, rose to number 7 on Billboard Country chart in 2008.) Fast forward to 2013...... All the songs on the EP reflect a man very content with his life. On Saturday Afternoon, he sings about the whole world shining down on him and his lady, on Salt Life, feet up, anchor down, watching the sunset and leaving footprints in the sand on low tides, and on to Whole Damn Thing, cold beer, football, a fire, good laughs and, of course, his lady.

On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart - which blends:

Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” (Republic Nashville) racks a seventh cumulative week at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, and with 179,000 downloads, it also spent an eighth week atop Country Digital Songs. The recently released remix featuring rapper Nelly accounts for 120,000 of the song’s weekly digital haul.
It would have been confusing should Florida Georgia Line had picked Flo Rida for the pop crossover remix of “Cruise”. The songs seventh week atop the chart now represents the longest run at #1 by an ongoing duo since “Don’t Let Me Cross Over” by the husband-and-wife duo Carl Butler and Pearl topped the chart for 11 weeks in 1962-1963.
Brad Paisley’s lead single, “Southern Comfort Zone,” peaked at No. 10 on Hot Country Songs in January, followed by “Beat This Summer,” which bullets at No. 19 in its sixth chart week. Significant media interest for “Accidental Racist” (featuring LL Cool J) resulted in a Hot Shot Debut at No. 23 on Hot Country Songs and a No. 16 bow on Country Digital Songs (43,000 sold).
Boosted by the first complete tracking week following the April 7 Academy of Country Music Awards (CBS) saw too singles rocket into the top 10. Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Party” (Capitol Nashville) surges 35-2 with the Airplay Gainer nod (up 367%) and also vaults 24-2 on Country Digital Songs (164,000 sold). Hunter Hayes flew up 36-10 with “I Want Crazy” (Atlantic/Warner Music Nashville), which also improves 32-4 on the digital tally (110,000 sold).

Lady Antebellum closes a 16-month gap at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “Downtown” (Capitol Nashville), which gains 1.6 million audience impressions and steps 2-1 in its 12th chart week.
That’s also the trio’s shortest trip to the summit, surpassing 14 weeks apiece with “Need You Now” in 2009 and “Just a Kiss” in 2011. The act most recently topped the chart with “We Owned the Night,” which spent two weeks at No. 1 in December 2011. Between the threesome’s most recent No. 1s, they peaked at No. 2 with “Dancin’ Away With My Heart” a year ago and rose to No. 20 last fall with “Wanted You More.”
An upbeat Lady A saw their lead off single “Downtown” reach a 40.073 million audience (+1.588); receiving 6,204 plays (+296). Top local audience contributors for during the April 8-14 Nielsen BDS tracking week:
KKBQ Houston (1.3 million impressions), WUSN Chicago (1.2 million), KKGO Los Angeles (820,000), KILT Houston (702,000) and WKLB Boston (701,000).
It has sold roughly 496,000 downloads, which set up an opening-week peak at No. 2 nine weeks ago on Country Digital Songs—and introduces GOLDEN, the trio’s fourth studio album, due May 7.
Coordinated hourly play on April 8 at Clear Channel-owned stations gives Hunter Hayes his best opening-week rank gaining Hot Shot Debut honours at No. 24, where “I Want Crazy” (Atlantic/Warner Music Nashville) . It started out reaching an 10.210 million audience (+10.187); receiving 1,411 spins (+1,405) and drew 57 Radio Station ADDS to land both Most Increased Audience, and “Most Added” trophies.
Hunter’s previous best was a No. 51 start with “Somebody’s Heartbreak” last October, which peaked two weeks ago at No. 1. New song “I Want Crazy” will be included in an expanded edition of Hayes’ 2011 self-titled debut album, titled Hunter Hayes (Encore), due to drop June 18.
George Strait extends his record for the most top 10s in the 23-year history of the Nielsen BDS-based Country Airplay ranking as “Give It All We Got Tonight” (MCA Nashville) gains 1.9 million impressions and moved 11-10. In that span, Strait has the most top 10s (61) followed by Alan Jackson (51), Tim McGraw (48), Kenny Chesney (45) and Toby Keith (42).
On the overall Hot Country Songs chart (whose earliest origins date back to 1944), where his current single has thus far peaked at No. 14, Strait’s 85 top 10s rank second all-time to Eddy Arnold (92). They are both trailed by George Jones (78), Conway Twitty (75) and Merle Haggard (71). With 44 Hot Country Songs leaders since 1982, Strait continues to hold the all-time record for the most No. 1s. Twitty logged the second-most (40), followed by Haggard (38), Ronnie Milsap (35) and Alabama (33).

With sales of 179,000 (120,000 of those were the remix featuring rapper Nelly) they surpassed Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue” to become the best-selling song by a country duo in digital history. “Cruise” has sold 2,726,000 copies. “Stuck Like Glue” has sold 2,621,000. Sugarland have five of the 10 best-selling songs by a country duo in digital history. No.3 to No.10 in the best seller list by a on-going duo are:

The ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan was the biggest winner selling 164,000 copies of “Crash My Party” moving up 24-2. 36-year old Luke was also the week’s second highest new entry at #18 on the Hot 100 all genre chart, his second top 20 hit. “Drunk On You” reached #16 in 2010.
Hunter Hayes’ who showcased his new single “I Want Crazy” on the night saw it jump up 32-4 with sales of 110,000.
Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift’s “Highway Don’t Care” who were joined by Keith Urban playing guitar stand at No.3. Sales for this former #1 country digital single were up 40%, selling 115,000 downloads to take the tally to 527,000 giving McGraw a third consecutive Gold-selling single from TWO LANES OF FREEDOM as it surpassed the ½-million sales mark.
The ACM co-host Blake Shelton who performed his current single “Boys ‘Round Here.” featuring The Pistol Annies and friends, are at No. 5. Sales of 98,000 were up 42% (3 week total of 222,000).
Shelton’s “Sure Be Cool If You Did” at No.9 sold 77,000 downloads and surpassed the 1-million Platinum mark (1,011,000 sold in 14 chart weeks)
Scotty McCreery with new single “See You Tonight” (19/Interscope/Mercury) was the highest new debut on the chart at No.14 selling 46,000 units.
Brad Paisley’s controversial song “Accidental Racist” with LL Cool J caused media ripples and its curiosity resulted in 43,000 “fans” (?) to buy the WHEELHOUSE track to bow at No.16.
The ACM duo of the year Thompson Square sold another 36,000 copies of “If I Didn’t Have You” the weeks No.18 slot. With total sales of the single at 515,000 after 22 chart weeks, they pass the Gold ½-million marker and now its officially eligible it becomes the duo’s second RIAA certified single joining the recently certified Double Platinum“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not.”
Kelly Clarkson who performed “Don’t Rush” at the recent ACM Awards saw a 54% sales increase for the single to move 28-19.
