The 2013 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Tracy Morgan, aired live from Las Vegas on Sunday May 19, 2013 on ABC.
Country Music had ample representation at the annual party known as the Billboard Music Awards with scheduled performance by Country stars Taylor Swift, The Band Perry and Kacey Musgraves.
In addition, the roster of confirmed award presenters included Shania Twain (presented Top Rap Artist award to Nicki Minaj - photo) , Jennifer Nettles, Florida Georgia Line (Blue carpet video) , Miley Cyrus (presented Justin Bieber with the Top Male Artist - photo) and Hayden Panetierre of the Country Music-oriented TV drama Nashville (which ABC recently picked up for a second season).
A new Pepsi commercial featuring Hunter Hayes and his single “I Want Crazy” also debuted during the telecast.

Taylor Swift was one of this year's leading nominees with nods in eleven categories. She made a clean sweep of all the country fields and won a total of 8 awards missing out on Top 100 Artist (Maroon 5), Top Social Artist (Justin Bieber) and Top Streaming Song Video (PSY – 'Gangnam Style').
Awards were handed out in 45 categories, with 10 of them presented on the ABC telecast.
The finalists were determined by key fan interactions with music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular online music outlets. These measurements were tracked year-round (March 12, 2012 - March 10, 2013) by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound.

The three-hour show featured 16 performances, including the TV premiere of Swift’s “22,” the Band Perry’s dramatic “Better Dig Two” and Kacey Musgraves’ quiet take on “Merry Go ’Round”.
Taylor Swift brought “’22”, her bouncy, peppy, ode to youth to the awards in fabulous, clever, out-of-the-box and unexpected fashion. She began her performance backstage in the dressing room, advancing through the hallways surrounded by a troupe of dancers that followed her through the narrow nooks and crannies before heading up the steps to the arena stage to entertain the audience. Numerous dancers consisted of a mixed bag of cute and cuddly boys next door and odd, masked characters that looked like mimes, dressed in colourful, trash bag-like ensembles. >> YouTube
Now 23 years old, and no longer 22, Tay gave a confident performance as she pumped her fist donned in revealing high-waist shorts with a sparkly unicorn T-shirt.
Earlier on the blue carpet, slim Swift wore a Zuhair Murad royal blue mini dress with mesh panels that let her legs do the talking.
During one of her acceptance speeches, a light-hearted Taylor appeared to be making fun of herself, referring to her many much documented and troubled relationships as she thanked her fans : “You are the longest and best relationship I have ever had!”' she exclaimed before strutting off stage.

Hot country trio The Band Perry attending the Billboard Awards for the first time, performed ‘Better Dig Two’ bringing their unique electricity to the stage with one of the coolest, edgiest mainstream country tracks the genre has seen in recent years. Clad in black they gave a theatrical presence that emphasized the song’s bold, dramatic themes, illuminated from behind by dark, mysterious mood lighting punctuated with laser-like coloured beams.

Kacey Musgraves gave an understated performance of her recent career-launching hit ‘Merry Go Round’ delivering a performance so subtly nuanced that it seemed almost out of place in the setting of the elaborate, made-for-TV Vegas production. The 24-year old, playing acoustic guitar, looked stunning wearing a simple blue dress with a backing band (electric guitar, cello, keys and backing vox)

Miley Cyrus on the blue carpet announced her new hybrid single "We Can't Stop," (country meets Southern R'n'B meets hip hop) comes out June 3rd >> YouTube
Cyrus will premiere the song, produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, on Ryan Seacrest's syndicated radio show in June.

Kid Rock, the 42-year-old rocker, took to the stage to present the award for Top Rap Song to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for “Thrift Shop”. Before presenting the award, Kid gave his opinion on the people who performed during the show before he hit the stage, and he certainly was not kind - “Let’s give it up for people lip-syncing under pre-recorded music!” he said.

Taylor Swift – The Country/Pop “Red” princess arrived at the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Las Vegas, rocking her own shade of royal cerulean on the blue carpet.

The uber-short disco-type frock showed off her never-ending legs, which only multiplied in length with her pair of sky-high, strappy pewter platform “Suki” sandals by Jimmy Choo. These shoes feature a textured gunmetal leather and thin cross-strap design. (Image).
A bright pink lippie, blue-rimmed eye makeup, diamond jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz and a chicly effortless ponytail added a soft note to all the glitzy edge. She brought a tougher edge to her look with a three-finger knuckle ring. Naked nails made sure that her bling stood out from her sparkly dress
Hayden Panettiere - Known as the girl who parades around in figure hugging sparkly dresses in the hit ABC show “Nashville” here 23-year-old petite actress and “Telescope” singer opted for a demure gown at the Billboard Music Awards where she attended as one of the presenters.
She arrived on the blue carpet wearing a black Halston Heritage ruffle halterneck column gown with tiered layers, from the Spring 2013 collection.
Was it a bit too elegant for the music ceremony?
Looking beautiful she kept her accessories on the minimal side opting for gold starburst earrings that matched her gold oval clutch (Image)
Side gathered cascading golden curls and soft makeup with the exception of electric aqua lined eyes, provided the finishing touches.

Jennifer Nettles - Attending for her presenter duties, the Sugarland singer and new mummy selected a soft pink satin Edition by Georges Chakra Spring 2013 gown - Fashion Pic
This figure-hugging, cotton-candy-pink creation made for a glowing return. The scuba-cut design, featured a pretty gold chevron sequin pattern panel down the left side of her leg that’s framed by silver sequin detail travelling throughout the waist and back.
A Swarovski clutch, Casadei heels and gorgeous Norman Silverman chunky statement rings (Image) and earrings provided a final sparkling flourish. Jennifer wore her blonde tresses loosely swept up and pinned, before completing her look with a makeup palette made up of soft rose tones to complete her BBMA look.
Kacey Musgraves – There as a first time performer the “Blowin’ Smoke” singer-songwriter rocked the blue carpet with a short black lace Lover Sara dress (Fashion circles spotted that actress Lala Anthony wore the outfit dress recently) . The 24-year-old country singer later hit the evening stage for a performance of her chart hit “Merry Go Round”!
“Gettin’ my glam on. @billboard Music Awards tonight..y’all gonna watch?” Kacey tweeted before the big event.
Kimberly Perry - The Band Perry singer-songwriter wore a feminine pearl-embellished, full-skirted gown which was a little more Oscars look than Billboard. She worked with stylist Anita Patrickson for her carpet dress.
Kimberly told Yahoo: “My dress is going to be two pieces--a full skirt and a matching, light-colored, lacy top with a higher neck. In terms of makeup, we're leaning towards something subtle but still eye-catching”
Regarding her performance look: “Our mother does the styling for all of our stage looks, actually. So she and I went to New York City to find something for my performance look for the Billboards and we both saw this dress at the same time--we were both drawn to it. The dress has a corset top, but the sleeves are made entirely out of this really long, like, two-foot-long fringe.
Kim took the opportunity to go totally blinged-out Jimmy Choos! Her favourite colour is bling.

The 20-year-old slipped into a sleeveless Balmain Spring 2013 crochet jumpsuit as she made her arrival.
Featuring glittery black-and-silver harlequin checks, overlaid with lacy basketry-inspired embroidery, this look was bold, brash and had the level of bravura. Was it glam race-car-driver-look?
She accessorized with diamond studded jewellery and a black pair of Givenchy ankle strap sandals with shark tooth clasp detailing and gold-tone cap at heel. Shania Twain - The 47-year-old Vegas performer was there to play a presenters role.
Shania freshened her look by transforming her brown locks into a vibrant shade of red, debuting an updated 'do’.
The five-time Grammy winner strolled down the blue carpet, she coordinated her fiery tresses with a pale-blue Pavoni by Mikael D Collection Grecian-inspired silk strapless gown that hit all the right musical notes.
Accentuating her curvy figure, the dress started bondage-style bustier stop, before asymmetrically flowing to the floor.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Showing off her new red hair on the blue carpet the multiple nominee and winner of the Top Digital Song Artist trophy chose a Dyanthe Fall 2012 frock for her big night.
The “Tonight I’m Getting Over You” singer donned Gio Diev shoes (with soft gold mirrored leather detail and a silver blade heel), Isharya jewellery and carried a Nancy Gonzalez clutch. Smoky lined eyes and a nude pout completed her look.

She wore her long blonde hair back in a sleek ponytail to accommodate the high neck design—with an equally high slit at the left thigh.
She accessorized with two Palladium rings that matched her delicate bangles and diamond earrings. The look was then complete with a subtle neutral makeup palette and nude ankle strap leather wedge sandals.
