Finally in 2013 on The Billboard 200 a female solo artist landed #1 album as Selena Gomez’s Stars Dance became the first album by a female solo artist to reach
the summit since Taylor Swift’s RED finished
its seven-week run on top in the week ending Dec. 30. Lady Antebellum
(featuring Hillary Scott) was one of 2 groups that had a female member to have
a No.1 so far in the year.
It’s the longest wait since the start
of a year for a female solo artist to land a #1 since 1992, when no women made
it until Dec. 6, when Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard reached #1. (Note: Those
dates are Nielsen SoundScan’s “week ending” chart dates, not Billboard’s issue
dates (“Red” was #1 the first two weeks of January based on issue dates.)
Florida Georgia Line’s HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES dropped one
slot on the Billboard Top 200 (BB200) from #5 to #6.
It held at #1 on Top
Country Albums for the sixth week with sales of 29,642 (down 6%; Physical
copies 19,376 + Digital albums 10,266; 34-week total 916,694) . It’s the first album
by a duo to log six weeks at #1 on
the country chart since Sugarland’s LOVE ON THE INSIDE in the summer of 2008.
It’s the first debut album to log six weeks at #1 on the country chart since
Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day in 2011.
Hunter Hayes’s Hunter Hayes (Encore!) at No.3 (No.21
BB200) past the 900K mark selling 13,116 copies (down 1%) to reach 907,791
after 94 chart weeks.
At No.18 Carrie Underwood
with BLOWN AWAY has sold almost
exactly 1.5-million copies after 65 weeks on the chart.
In their second week at retail JJ Lawhorn’s ORIGINAL GOOD OL' BOY sold 1,551 (down 62%; total 5,699) and
dropped 20-36, Joey+Rory
with their gospel set INSPIRED sold 1,268 copies (down 51%,
total 3,890) and dropped 31-39 on the Country chart. Court Yard Hounds with AMELITA are No.48 on the Rock Album
chart (#189 BB200) selling 2,317 copies (down 57%, 2-week total 7,760)

Clark's first album in four years is a wonderfully rough, tough, tender, wise,
and gracefully resigned testament to a life lived, a craft followed, and
regrets considered, weighed, and given due. Now 71 years old, Clark has been a
world-class songwriter for decades, and as My Favorite Picture of You shows, he
still is..... My Favorite Picture of You is simply a wonderful, balanced gem of
an album from a masterful songwriter.
Uncut (Rating 8/10) ..The song forms the emotional heart of the
album itself, which is adorned with a John Lomax photograph of Susanna during
one of her frostier moments. Taken outside the Clark homestead in the ‘70s,
she’d just stormed out after finding Guy and Townes Van Zandt inside, drunk as
baboons. Over simple acoustic guitar and trilling mandolin, the title track
finds Clark addressing the image directly: "You’ve got your heart on your
sleeve/A curse on your lips/But all I can see is beautiful". Not that My
Favourite Picture Of You is mawkish or overly sentimental. Instead this is
Clark, now in his 72nd year, as the rumpled poet of American folk-blues,
imparting these semi-brisk, string-driven tales with his own unique brand of
sad, funny, dry wisdom.
Outside the Top 25 Country albums Justin Adams’ new eponymous EP (released
July 23rd) landed at No.59 selling 729 copies.
Adams is a Bixby, Oklahoma
native and is a 2008 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where he
played football on a full scholarship award. Justin moved to Nashville,
Tennessee in the fall of 2010.
Justin’s high energy performances of
country-meets-rock’n'roll songs showcase his talents as an entertainer. He has already had the opportunity to share
the stage with national touring acts like Easton Corbin, Eli Young Band, Eric
Paslay, Charlie Worsham, Kristen Kelly and Joel Crouse.

Way down the Country chart at No.62 saw the arrival of duo Grits & Glamour (Pam Tillis and Lorrie
Morgan) with their album titled DOS
DIVAS which sold only 691 copies.
Formed in 2009, the “Grits and Glamour”
tour was described as a “together is better” event, loosely scripted, good-natured
ribbing and off-the-cuff remarks are just part of the fun. They're as earthy as
they are glamorous.
Lorrie and Pam both admit they've benefitted from the
world's recent fascination with Nashville.
Pam Tillis played a cameo role in first
series of the hit TV series “Nashville,”
and Lorrie headlined Gaylord Opryland Hotel's Christmas show, performing for
tens of thousands of people over six weeks.
In a logical progression of their
successful touring relationship, Pam and Lorrie teamed up to record “Dos Divas”.
The project features solo performances by Morgan and Tillis as well as fun
collaborations and poignant duets.

GAC - After several years of touring together as Grits and Glamour,
country music stars Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis team up on their feisty new
project, Dos Divas. Featuring a mix of duets and solo works, Dos Divas feels
like a natural extension of their concert performances complete with clever
banter, a whole lot of sass and a strictly Honky Tonk soundtrack.....Each
singer takes the lead on four songs with the other adding harmonies. Lorrie’s
cuts tend to be slower and more dramatic..... One of the most impressive
aspects of Dos Divas is the sheer honesty of every song. The banter on the
closer, “What Was I Thinkin’,” speaks to the testimonials packed into the album
and this transparency is everywhere...Lorrie and Pam give fans a set that
touches as well as entertains.
Roughstock (Rating: 3.5
STARS) - And for a majority of Dos Divas
(released under the title "Grits and Glamour"), the album works
really well and in other places where the album's mixing gets a little out of
hand, the songs still win....Dos Divas may not get Pam and Lorrie much
mainstream radio airplay but it will garner a lot of attention from their fans
and with the 14 tracks here (which are mostly strong), it's a record that is
well worth seeking out (warts and all).

week Johnny Cash’s LEGEND OF JOHNNY
CASH sold 3,904 and it has sold over 3-million copies (3,006,926 total).
After
23-weeks on the chart the Pistol Annies at No.119
with HELL ON HEELS sold 1,566 copies (down 11%) this album has now
scanned GOLD (1/2 million) at retail with a new total of 503,313.

Duo Florida Georgia Line set the all-time record for the most weeks at No. 1
on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, as the duo's "Cruise" notches
a 22nd cumulative week at the
summit.
The immense No. 1 run for
"Cruise" stems, in part, from the Hot Country Songs chart's change in
methodology last Autumn after switching from ranking Nielsen BDS-based audience
airplay impressions from a core set of terrestrial country radio stations to a
hybrid survey.
Due, in part, to its availability
before the addition of the remix with rapper Nelly, the original version of
“Cruise” accounts for 59% of the song’s total sales (5.35 million)

passes three other titles that each led for 21 weeks over the chart's 69-year

Billboard Country Airplay Chart Week of August 10, 2013
Randy Houser scored his second No.
1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay tally, as “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” (Stoney Creek) jumped up 5-1 to top the summit.
The song logs an 8% gain (+3.533 million) to 45.785 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS,
receiving 6,644 radio plays (+440)
in the chart week.
First released on
March 4, 2013; the song written by Dallas Davidson, Ashley Gorley and Kelley
Lovelace reached the summit in its 24th week, the ascent easily bests the
39-week climb of his first leader (and prior single), “How Country Feels,”
which rose to No. 1 the week of Feb. 2.
The vault to the top is the chart’s greatest since Rascal Flatts flew 6-1 with “Here Comes
Goodbye” (Lyric Street) the week of April 25, 2009. It’s the largest by a solo
male artist since Alan Jackson’s
“Country Boy” (Arista Nashville) climbed 5-1 on Jan. 31, 2009.
Oddly enough, the chart saw its biggest drop from No. 1 since
April 25, 2009, when George Strait’s “River of Love” (MCA Nashville) sunk
1-9, as the Band Perry’s “DONE.” (Republic Nashville) tumbled 1-8 after a week at No. 1.
Houser becomes the fifth act to tally multiple No. 1s in 2013.
Tim McGraw sent “One of Those
Nights” (Big Machine) to the apex for three weeks starting on March 9 and
returned to No. 1 with “Highway Don’t Care,” with Taylor Swift, for two frames (June 15, 22). Blake Shelton reigned with “Sure Be Cool If You Did” (Warner
Bros./Warner Music Nashville) for two
weeks beginning March 30 and followed with the one-week No. 1 “Boys ’Round
Here” (featuring Pistol Annies & Friends) (June 29).
Luke Bryan ruled as a guest, with Eric Church, on Jason Aldean’s “The Only Way I Know”
(Broken Bow) (Feb. 16) and for three weeks earlier this month with “Crash My
Party” (Capitol Nashville), and the Band
Perry racked two weeks on top with “Better Dig Two” beginning in February
and one with “DONE.” last week.
Blake Shelton bagged both the “Most Increased Audience” and “Most
Added”
honours with “Mine Would Be You,”
his follow-up to “Boys.” The song, which jumped up 42-30 in its second week on Country Airplay, reached a 6.937
million audience (+4.777), receiving 1,006 plays (+777), thanks to 54 new radio commitments (ADDS).
Tim McGraw’s “Southern Girl” (25-23) was second (27 adds), followed by Darius Rucker’s “Radio” (Capitol Nashville) up 54-47 in its
second week with 19 ADDS.
Cole Swindell posted the week’s
lone debut on Country Airplay, as “Chillin’
It” marked his first visit to the ranking (No. 52) as so he won the weeks “Hot Shot Debut” trophy.

the 23rd week. Its sales were 119,160 (down 14%) reaching a new tally of 5,355,645 downloads over 66 weeks on the charts. On
the overall Digital Songs chart it remained in the Top 10 moving 5-7
It now has 2 of the top-selling Country
digital tracks of all time in its sights Lady
Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” (6,185,133 sales /Ranked #18 on all genres) and Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” (5,600,263 sales / ranked #28 overall)

album jumped up from 8-2 selling 66,568 copies (up 39%) to reach 1,124,184 downloads in 17 chart weeks.
Darius Rucker’s cover of “Wagon
Wheel”, at No.7, sold another 47,037
copies (down 13% on last week) to go past the Double Platinum 2-million mark with a new total of 2,003,219 sales.
Thomas Rhett (one of the songwriters of FGL’s
No.6 placed “Round Here”) landed the No.8
slot with “It Goes Like This.” Sales of 42,610 were up 11% selling 341,000
copies over 11-weeks.
Kip Moore’s “Hey Pretty Girl” (27,926 sales, down 2%; 686,902 sold in 23-weeks)
holds at No.16 and is the weeks No.1 on the Mediabase/Aircheck’s radio chart.
Tim McGraw’s latest single “Southern Girl” jumped up from #57 to #24 . Sales of 17,507 were up by 110% to reach 66,000 copies.
Train feat. Ashley Monroe with “Bruises”
moved 35-22 selling 19,020 copies, up by 48%.
Blake Shelton’s new radio single “Mine Would Be You” sits at No.26. Sales
of 14,971 were up by 117% and Blake’s protégé from The Voice Danielle Bradbery sits behind her mentor at No.27 with “The Heart of Dixie” which fell 25 places from No.2 (14,673 sales; down 81%,
