2014 ACM Awards Live Performances:

The show, which has leaned heavy on performances in recent years, pushed the envelope even farther this year. The ACM saw a veritable concert, 10 songs in all, including two performances by Shelton, before a single trophy was passed out on camera 62 minutes into the proceedings. “Country music is alive and well, baby,” Brian Kelley proclaimed as Florida Georgia Line collected that first honor, Vocal Duo. The actual awards format seemed, at that moment, an endangered species.
“80 minutes....1 award. #notanawardsshow,” Max Media/Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News director of programming and operations John Shomby tweeted. Those awards came flooding in later in the evening.
When the ACMs hit Texas in 2015, they will become the first major awards show hosted at a stadium.

Watch Blake Shelton & Luke Bryan >>"Monologue"
Keeping the ACM tradition alive the country claws were out at the 49th annual ACM Awards Co-hosts Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan managed to majorly diss Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears in their opening sequence. Ouch! ...They zinged Eric Church over the likelihood of finding marijuana in his dressing room, poked fun at Britney Spears (who performs on the Las Vegas strip for her residency shows). Starting with “If you don’t like live music, you need to go down the block and see Britney Spears” this isn’t the first time she’s been slammed for lip syncing. But did Blake really have to say that with Britney’s little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, in the crowd? We hope the new country singer wasn’t too embarrassed!
See photo with her hubby
You could follow Jamie as she was the ACM Social Media Correspondent to get real-time updates @jamielynnspears

They ribbed Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, in the audience, about his team's disappointing playoff record (Shelton and Bryan announced the 50th edition of the ACM Awards will be held at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium next year). The two had quips about same-sex marriage, the legalization of marijuana and Miley Cyrus. After that, Luke threw some shade at Miley and country singer Jake Owen, who had to have his finger amputated after an accident in the summer of 2013. “Jake lost a finger in a go-cart accident,” Luke said. “You know where they found it? On Miley Cyrus’ tour bus. It was takin’ a selfie and smokin’ a doobie.” Read More: Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton Open the 2014 ACM Risque Jokes

1) The Band Perry >> "Chainsaw

The sibling trio made quite an entrance, and kicked off the award show with a bang, when they rose from the ground in smoke to start their performance.

2) Brad Paisley >> "RiverBank"

A high-profile performance introduced it to most fans. Paisley’s formula for this song is similar to many of the uptempo cuts from ‘Wheelhouse. Brad heated up the poolside with a rousing rendition of his new single ’River Bank.’ It was a pre-taped segment shot at the MGM pool on Friday (April 4) for the ACM Awards - tasteofcountry

The tune arrived at country radio on April 4, with an official airplay impact date set for April 14.

“Brad has given us a monster, up-tempo, rockin’ Country hit to start off the summer!” says Sony Music Nashville Chairman & CEO Gary Overton of the song Paisley co-wrote with longtime co-writer and friend, Kelley Lovelace.

“River Bank” was released as a digital single on April 6 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon UK and Amazon.com

3) Florida Georgia Line "Stay"
Fan favorites Florida Georgia Line rocked the Fan Jam at Mandalay Bay at the 2014 ACM Awards with a fiery-hot performance of their hit ‘Stay.’

7) Eric Church  >> "Give Me Back My Hometown- PHOTO
The stage was simple and reminiscent of his music video for the song. Stone crosses, grass, and tombstones lined the stage, nodding to the theme of the video, which featured a young, bearded man attending a roadside funeral. Read More: tasteofcountry

10) Justin Moore >> "Lettin The Night Roll

11) Blake Shelton and Shakira >> "Medicine" -
Po-po-popping the pills: It was doctors orders as Shakira and Blake Shelton gave viewers a taste of "Medicine," their new duet. Rocking a lipstick-red dress and knee high boots (WOW!) showing just enough of those famous hips, Shakira squared off with the country superstar for a spirited version of the pounding anthem. The duet comes following the Latin superstar's yearning to go a little country, having approached Shelton after the two worked together on "The Voice." Their stage chemistry is undeniable; the two look born to sing together. Read More: tasteofcountry

13) Lady Antebellum & Stevie Nicks >> "Medley" (Golden/ Rhiannon) Old school met new school when country superstars Lady Antebellum (who were compared to Fleetwood Mac when they burst onto the scene) joined forces with music legend Stevie Nicks for an outstanding performance? 14) Tim McGraw and Faith Hill >> "Meanwhile Back at Mama’s"
One of the biggest events of the night was the debut of Tim McGraw's traditional-flavored new song. McGraw sat on stage and began the performance by himself, with a stripped-down band, looking snazzy in a black bowtie and a matching cowboy hat while singing into a gilded vintage-style microphone. After the first chorus, the gorgeous Faith Hill McGraw's beautiful wife walked on stage to an eruption of applause looking gorgeous in a stunning champagne-colored glittering gown. The 14-time ACM winner added her distinctive Mississippi harmonies to the track. Read More: tasteofcountry
The song, immediately made available on US iTunes comes from Tim’s upcoming Big Machine disc titled SUNDOWN HEAVEN TOWN scheduled for release on September 16, which Tim McGraw announced in this Press Release on April 3rd
Beginning on Sunday, April 6, during his performance McGraw launched “Countdown To Sundown” when fans could Shazam his ACM showing and join the Countdown program with access to exclusive content.
Country radio is already on board with lead single “Lookin’ For That Girl,” which climbs into the Top 20 on the charts this week.
On May 8, McGraw will begin his Sundown Heaven Town 2014 Tour, covering more than 30 cities. Joining him for the summer run will be Kip Moore and Cassadee Pope.

Accidental Racism? With the tour and album name in place one imagines that Big Machine did their research and cleared it off.
Website Saving Country Music points out that the phrase has racist connections. Wikipedia states: A sundown town is a town, city, or neighborhood in the US that was purposely all-white.  They are also sometimes known as “sunset towns” or “gray towns”. Sociologist James W. Loewen wrote in his book (Image - Amazon). Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism, notes that hundreds of cities across America have been sundown towns at some point in their history. A sundown town, is a town that will allow a given race to pass through provided it gets out by sunset. Read more sundown.afro.illinois.edu

15) Hunter Hayes >> "Invisible

16) Toby Keith  >>  “Shut Up And Hold On
Keith rocked the stage and he invited a few friends too! Backed by a saxophone, trumpet and trombone, not to mention fellow country star Mica Roberts, Keith gave a rowdy rendition of the single off his latest record. Read More tasteofcountry

17) Luke Bryan  >> "Play It Again

18) Keith Urban >> "Even The Stars Fall 4 U"
With three drummers, the stage was literally pounding with adrenaline. Urban looked incredibly classy with his black leather jacket, and showed off an aggressive guitar solo that had fans cheering throughout. The song, which is from Urban’s album ‘Fuse,’ was the perfect choice for an early ACM Awards performance; it amped up the excitement to an ever higher level and the fun 80s vibe was electrifying. 19) George Strait & Miranda Lambert "‘I’m a Lonesome Fugitive" (tribute to Merle Haggard)

20) Miranda Lambert >> "Automatic"
Lambert made her hole-y jeans look feminine with a slim white tank top and lots of jewels. Everything sparkled from her elaborate necklace to her bedazzled microphone.
She even wore silver shoes as she performed in front of a backdrop that would also occasionally sparkle. Lambert sang to her fans as they danced and clapped to her fun song. She made the performance rock a little with her fist pumps and foot taps to the beat. Read More: tasteofcountry
Regarding Miranda’s forthcoming album PLATINUM, Little Big Town will also join Blake Shelton‘s wife for a song. ‘Smokin’ and Drinkin” is a song that features the band — and was originally pitched to the group.

Ultimately, Lambert got the song but decided it was best as a collaboration. “Karen told me, ‘You have a song I want!,’” Lambert explains. “So I said, ‘If I cut it, will y’all sing on it?’  The 16-song record features songwriting by the singer and also features a song with the Time Jumpers on ‘All That’s Left.’

The album will be released 2nd June and it is already available for pre-order on UK iTunes Read More: tasteofcountry

21) Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan >> "This Is How We Roll"
They literally lit up the stage with their performance bringing lots of aspects from their absolutely phenomenal music video (?) to the ACM Awards stage — except they didn’t perform on top of a semi. Exciting graphics, blazing fire, and high-flying action sport stars were the highlights of the jaw-dropping performance. Read More: tasteofcountry

22) Rascal Flatts >>  “Rewind”  (Low Quality)
They brought their newest single to the Las Vegas stage. They may have performed close to the end of the award show, but their rockin’ performance was one, according to Taste Of Country, you may want to rewind and live again. They do save the best for last. The trio opened the song under blue lights. Read More: tasteofcountry
If it appeared the members of the Rascal Flatts were lip-syncing during the performance, it was because they were lip-syncing the performance. In a statement on Twitter, the band confirmed that lead singer Gary LeVox lost his voice prior to Sunday’s broadcast. As a result, the band decided to lip-sync its rendition of “Rewind.”  “So instead of canceling our commitment to do the show, we made a last-minute decision to lip-sync. We’ve never done it before, and we’re obviously not very good at it. “We look forward to singing live again in the very near future!” While the lip-syncing itself would have been jarring in a vacuum, the performance drew particular outrage due to an earlier assurance from hosts Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton that the singing on the ACMs, unlike that found, for instance, at a Britney Spears show, would be live!

23) Jason Aldean >> "When She Says Baby
Smoke filled the stage and moody lighting set the tone for Aldean‘s performance. The country rocker matched the attitude of the atmosphere with his all-black ensemble, finished off with a characteristic black cowboy hat and boots.

24) Dierks Bentley and Sheryl Crow "I Hold On"
They got the crowd to their feet during the performance as Crow added her famous vocals to a few of the verses, while Bentley sang along off-mic, over the moon to be on stage with the powerhouse performer. With dueling guitars and a whole stage just for them, the sizzling duo put on a killer show, completely worthy of being the last performance of the night. Read More: tasteofcountry
