On the BBC Radio 2 Playlist for the week commencing August 9, 2014 saw Ward Thomas with their single "Push for the Stride" removed from the “A” playlist. Emma Stevens with "Make My Day" remained on the "B" playlist for a second week as The Shires with "Tonight" are added to "B" playlist with their second single following on from their May single “Nashville Grey Skies”.

When Emma Stevens got the ”amazing news” that her brand new single “Make My Day”  had made the BBC Radio 2 playlist with an album shortly on the way, she really felt she needed to celebrate some how.  So obviously…flying over her home town in a plane seemed like a good alternative!
She thought it would be really cool to get some of her amazing friends/fans to lay down and spell out (using their bodies) the words “MAKE MY DAY” and then fly over, serenading them with her new song! She actually managed to get 60 willing people on board to be a part of this crazy idea! >> Watch the video
“Make My Day” (Rising Tide Music/Emma Stevens Music), which has very much the feel of  Taylor Swift's "22", received its first ever play on the Wogan show on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday 20th July. Album Two, a Pledge Music project has logged 193% of its goal with 35 days left.

Emma planned a series of 4 EPs, each one with a unique and beautiful artwork designed by her Mum. Emma’s Mum made the designs as a gift to Emma, and completed them just two weeks before she died. On the Hotdisc Chart (August 10, 2014 Chart)
The Hotdisc chart is compiled from DJs and industry professionals' ratings of songs currently being promoted on the Rush Released CD.
They are not airplay charts, as airplay charts cannot work in Europe because there are no terrestrial country stations. As of September 2013 it was reliably disclosed that 650 physical Hotdiscs are sent out with 350 digital versions for people to download.

This week saw new tracks from the new August 2014 Hotdisc #188 (rush Released) promotional disc impact on the chart.
Jim Reeves’ duet with Barbi Franklin re-make of "How's The World Treating You" (written by Chet Atkins, Boudleaux Bryant) blew straight in at No.1 on the Hotdisc Top 40 chart to bag
the Hotshot Debut honours. Yes it's hard to believe that Jim Reeves who died 50 years ago still witness his music widely embraced and alive thanks to the quality of his work which still attracts airplay all over the world. And the new 8 CD collection of re-workings of his songs by Larry Jordan has been responsible for his latest chart appearances, including "Distant Drums" which peaked at No.2 on the Hotdisc Top 40 and moved 3-5 this chart week. The tracks are both drawn from the The Great Jim Reeves 8-CD set (H&H Records) which comes in a handsome, unique, silver-trimmed and high-gloss durable case which opens like a book. The track listings are displayed on two panels which then fold open to reveal all 8 CDs in convenient storage pockets. There is also a separate 48-page booklet inside called “Songs & Recordings” (running about 18,000 words!) in which Larry Jordan (author of the award-winning, 672-page book, “Jim Reeves: His Untold Story”), provides fascinating and detailed notes on each song. For more information visit www.jim-reeves.com/greatjimreeves , see the track listings here and order from www.jim-reeves.com $60.95 USD (incl postage) or from Smart Choice Music (£29.99)

Jim Reeves No.1 bow pushed Bertie Higgins’Cowboys Of The Caribbean” down 1-2 while a 1980s re-issue from David Frizzell titled "Maybe There's Love After You After All" (Bastian / Shaw) made the second highest new entry with a debut at No.3. taken from the March 17, 2014 released 2 on 1 set The Familys Fine, But This Ones All Mine / On My Own Again (Morello Records)
David Wood returned to chart with a follow up to his Hotdisc #185 Single “My Side Of The Fence” as “Who Left The Door To Heaven Open” (wriiten by Betty Duke) arrived at No.6 with the track taken from his 2010 album THE EARLY YEAR.

Joe Stampley's son Tony Stampley a writer himself who co-wrote and recorded "It Ain't All Good But It Ain't Half Bad" (Tony Stampley/ John Swat/ Philip Douglas) makes his debut at No.7. Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley (Mo & Joe) in the 1980's had a great cover/ satirical cut of Karma Chameleon called >> "Where's The Dress" (written by Tony Stampley with Bucky
Tony Stampley
Lindsey and George Cummings) that reached No.8 on the Hot Country Songs
chart. The good-natured send-up actually won a Best Country Video award. However it got them into a bit of trouble, Boy George was not impressed with the way his song was covered and brought about a court injunction (copyright infringement for using the opening melody) meaning they had to change it completely to satisfy the judges but won a lot of fans. Youngsters who normally bought Culture Club records brought in Boy George pictures to autograph which Stampley signed "Boy Joe"! Their country hit was about 2 truckers who saw the pop group Culture Club and its lead singer (known for his sexually ambivalent garb, long tresses and feminine makeup) as a gimmmick to pay their debts!

On their 5th week on the charts Brian Collins’ Never Really Left” remained in the top 10 falling 5-9, Texas native SaraBeth with her single "That's The Sound" slipped back 8-11 and Owen Howell held his own rounding out the top 10 with "Let's Start A Party" (written by Steve Ballard and Charlie Pennachio)

Outside the Top 10:
Kaylee Rutland an 18 year old soon to turn 19 contemporary country singer/songwriter from Texas made her Hotdisc debut at No.18 with title cut “Good Day To Get Gone” written by notable Canadian Jason Blaine along with Noah A Gordan and Willie Mack.
Kaylee was named as one of 10 Country Artists to Watch in 2014 by Billboard 615 who wrote: “Typically, teenage acts don't necessarily blow us away, but this native Texan is a little different. Her debut single is called "Into The Circle," and is a tribute to the world famous Grand Ole Opry, and she shows plenty of promise on the track. She's contemporary – but has one ear planted towards the heritage of the format!. Kaylee is currently attending college in Nashville studying music business. On July 29, 2014 she released a new 5 track EP titled GOOD DAY TO GET GONE (KRM Records).

Charlie Boston followed up on his Hotdisc #184 single “Why Can’t You Love Me” (peak at No.22) with his self penned “How I Only Wish I Could Fly” taken from his November 2013 album WHITE CREEK PIKE. It made an entry at No.19 on the top 40 to land No.1 on the British & Irish Hotdisc chart replacing Tony Clarke’s Put That Country Song On” which fell 15-21 in his 5th chart frame.
Just behind Charlie at No.20 is a new entry from Hotdisc newbie Mike Ward with his brand new self penned single "Welcome Home" to secure the No.2 slot on the British standings. The track features players: Simon Goluding (Bass), Luke Thomas (Acoustic), Scott Poley (Electric & Steel), Chris Howard (Piano & B3) , Naomi Sarah (Backing vocals) and Justin Johnson (Drums & backing vocals)
Fans for the BBC 1 show The Voice UK will recall Mike (the cousin of British The X Factor series 2 winner Shayne Ward) who made the final of Season 2. Mike has recently been working with producer Justin Johnson and session guys in Liverpool at the Studio2 Parr Street Studios (www.parrstreetstudios.co.uk) where some major pop albums have been recorded such as John Mayer and Coldplay.

Mike has recorded other tracks for a forthcoming EP due out in October which is already available for pre-order at www.mikeward.co.uk
It will feature >> 'Don't Close Your Eyes' (a cover of Keith Whitley's song) performed on his Series 2 Blind Audition. "Welcome Home" is being promoted by Lee Williams CEO of CMR Nashville/ Django Promotions who has signed Mike to management. Ward has seen praise in the past from David Allan the Country Music People columinist and former BBC Radio 2 presenter of the Country Club show in the 90’s. Follow & Like Mike Ward on Facebook

Outside the Hotdisc Top 20:
There new entries fron US acts Cody Riley with “Something I Wrote” (co-written with Mando Saenz) at No.22 taken from his Feb 21, 2014 album DOZEN RED ROSES. Sonia Leigh with her June 24, 2014 released single “Put It In Your Pocket” (co-written with Bobby Huff) arrived at No.23. David Shelby with his Aug 19, 2014 released single “Southern Drawl” (writers Chip Davis/ Damon Carrol) landed at No.24. The track is from an forthcoming EP slated to be called OH YEAH.

Scotland’s Janey Kirk saw her title track “Streets of Loneliness” (Watch the video at Yahoo.com/vevo-new-releases) just make the Top 40 at No.39 (#6 British & Irish Hotdisc). The lead guitars are Jerry Donahue, with Alan Thomson (bass), Jim Drummond (drums) and Iain Richard Johnson on banjo. The video was shot in her hometown in Central Hotel East Wemyss in central hotel and on the shore.

Dynamic and driving."

The stabbing took place early in the morning at a campground across the street from WE Fest, and thankfully, the wounds were not life-threatening. Brad Paisley used his time very wisely while flying to Afghanistan with President Obama on Air Force One earlier this year. Instead of just grabbing some shut-eye on his way to entertain U.S. troops, Brad opted to put the finishing touches on a new song, "Me and Jesus," while in the air over the Black Sea. "It was 13 hours over and 16 back, plenty of time to mix the record," Brad tells Billboard, "I had all the files and opened up the computer and thought, 'I'll get to work on this.' It didn't take too long. It's only my voice a guitar." Brad also picked up several souvenirs from Air Force One, including shot glasses, matches, luggage tags and towels.

Drake’s sister, TV and theatre actress Gabrielle Drake, has spent the past six years compiling and editing Nick Drake: Remembered For A While, which will be published by John Murray on 6 November – just a couple of weeks before the 40th anniversary of Drake’s tragic death in 1974. It is said to include a selection of handwritten lyrics and letters, as well as contributions from friends, family and music industry colleagues and collaborators.

Luke Bryan will release a Deluxe Edition of his double-platinum album, CRASH MY PARTY, on Tuesday, August 12th. The deluxe version was originally a Target exclusive and is now being made available to other retailers, including digital outlets. The album will include four new songs, including “Your Mama Should’ve Named You Whiskey.” Bryan says the title reveals a lot about the song. “We all know how rough whiskey can be on you, and obviously this guy is getting pretty burned by her,” he said. “It’s a cool, really cool song. I love the style. It’s kinda got that classic verse, and then when the chorus kicks in, it’s just big ole in your face rock, then it drops down to that cool, loping, kinda chilled-out dancing cheek-to-cheek thing. I love it top to bottom.”

Ones To Watch: Jess and the Bandits
Though somewhat atypical for a group rooted in country to find success in the UK, it is par for the course when it comes to the unlikely group Jess and the Bandits. The Bandits met BBC Radio 2 favourite Jessica Clemmons (who played the C2C Country To Country 2014 Pop Up stages), the opening act, during a 2012 tour while playing with The Overtones and instantly bonded over their mutual love of Country Music.  As they began to play together more and more, it became painstakingly clear that their chemistry was flawless. Thus, Jess and the Bandits were born. - See more and listen to the new single ‘My My Name Is Trouble’

Wall Street Journal (August 11, 2014 1:22 PM) Europe Tunes In to Its Own Country Music Scene…..After years of importing country artists from the U.S., Europe is finally listening to home-grown music. The Common Linnets were the surprise hit of this year's Eurovision song contest, a competition usually swept by pop tunes. With viewers from all over Europe texting and phoning to cast their vote, Dutch country artists Ilse DeLange and Waylon brought the house down and came in second with "Calm After the Storm."

Their duet, with its slide guitars and heart-tugging harmonies, has since become a top-10 hit across the continent, and the band is in negotiations with a major U.S. country-music label. "In Europe, when you say you do country music, it used to not be cool," says Ms. DeLange, who sports very Dolly Parton-like dimples, "but it is becoming much more mainstream."...."We are finding there is a steady increase in the numbers of European and British talent," says Rob Fielder, a DJ and co-founder of British internet-radio station 2Country.net. "With European talent, the quality has really picked up over the last few years."....One sign European country music has reached critical mass is a splintering of opinion within the movement about what the style is and why it is gaining traction. "You are starting to see a shift in [local artists'] being willing to spend money on production, and ultimately that is having a great effect on the marketability of their music," says Mr. Fielder, the Britain-based DJ. "It sounds as good as anything coming out of Nashville."
Ms. DeLange notes that as a judge on the Dutch version of "The Voice" she is seeing more singer-songwriters infusing their music with the storytelling genre. But unlike Mr. Fielder, she believes the European version is unique. "There is not that pristine and polished sound that is on country radio a lot of times in Nashville," she says. "It is a bit more gritty in its production, and I think Europeans are more interested in that kind of sound."...Whether it's slick or rough around the edges, locally produced country music is starting to take off. "Country to Country felt like a zeitgeist," says Ben Earle, one half of The Shires duo, who played on a pop-up stage at the festival. "I think five years ago, Europe was not ready as a continent for this kind of homegrown music. I think we are just now ready for it to take hold.".....Read the Full article with music/ photos at Wall Street Journal
