- September 7, 2014 (Edmonton, AB) – The 2014 Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) Awards Show, hosted by Jann Arden and Rick Mercer, celebrated eight CCMA
Award categories in a televised ceremony, live from Rexall Place in
Edmonton.
- The 2014 CCMA Awards Show were broadcast across
Canada on CBC-TV at 8:00pm (8:30pm NT) and 10:00pm EST on CMT (Canada).
- Crowd favourite Gord Bamford took home awards for both Male Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for his song, “When Your Lips Are So Close.”
- Jess
Moskaluke and Tim Hicks both won their first
CCMA Awards: Moskaluke for Female Artist of the Year and Hicks for CCMA Rising Star Award.
- Johnny Reid won his fifth Fans’ Choice Award and Dean Brody won his third Album
of the Year award, for Crop Circles. Amanda Wilkinson, and brother Tyler, Small Town Pistols, accepted the
award for Group or Duo of the Year
- Brett
Kissel took home the award for CMT Video of the Year
for “3-2-1”.
- The CCMA continued to reveal winners of 2014
CCMA Awards at the CCMA Gala Dinner
& Awards and the CCMA All
Star Band Awards. These were the second and third of four awards
ceremonies taking place over the weekend as part of Country Music Week
2014. Lindi Ortega won Roots Artist or Group of the Year and Brett
Kissel snagged the Interactive Artist both were their very first CCMA Awards.
- Poignant awards presentations were made for Slaight Music Humanitarian Award recipient, Beverley Mahood and Hank Smith Award of Excellence recipient, Deane Cameron. Canadian Country Music Hall of
Fame.
- Songwriter of the Year honours at the Canadian County Music Association Awards
went to
Canadian singer-songerwriter Deric
Ruttan, who helped write a hit song for American country superstar
Blake Shelton. The songwriting award, handed out Saturday night at the
non-televised CCMA gala dinner, went to Ruttan and fellow writers Jessi Alexander and Connie Harrington, for their song “Mine
Would Be You”, a No. 1 hit for Shelton last year.

Bamford, Moskaluke named top artists
The show was
hosted by Rick Mercer and Jann Arden. Arden said her goal was to
hug every male star. "I think
according to rodeo rules I would have to hold on for at least eight seconds."
Mercer noted: "I always love coming
to Alberta because I get to see all the people I grew up with in Newfoundland."
The Edmonton Sun wrote: We have to get this out of the way: What the heck was Jann
Arden doing hosting the Canadian Country Music Awards? She ain’t country.
Did
they pick her up just because she happened to be in Edmonton playing the
Jubilee Auditorium Monday night? Could be. She didn’t talk about it much at her
concert besides making one crack, “At least I’m not being hoisted to the
ceiling.”
But hey, a gig’s a gig – much like the CCMA co-host Rick Mercer was enlisted to help Jann out with selling merch in the lobby before the show, and with security to keep the unruly crowd of 2,300 from storming the stage. “They don’t pay him much,” Jann explained...

Brett Kissel was the most nominated musician, but for the second year in a row, Gord Bamford was the
big winner at the
Canadian Country Music Association's awards show Sunday night in Edmonton.
"I'm not
counting, but I think after tonight it's 19 (awards)," Bamford said
backstage.
"I didn't expect this," Bamford said
with his papa-bear voice while picking up his award for Single
of the Year, for When Your Lips Are So Close. "As an
artist, you've gotta be creative enough to write stuff that isn't just for
yourself, but competes in the marketplace."
The 38-year-old
also took home male artist of the year, beating out Kissel, among others.
"I grew up in Lacombe, just down the road," he noted, thanking his
wife, his label and country radio. "I was very shocked tonight. I'm just
trying to stay right in the middle of the pack," he added. Bamford, who is
from Lacombe, Alberta, now has 19 CCMA
awards to his name, and has just signed his first American record deal with
Sony in Nashville.
Female Artist for 2014 is Saskatchewan's Jess Moskaluke, one of only two female
artists who took home a prize at the main ceremony on Sunday. Moskaluke is the
first female singer with a single, Cheap Wine and Cigarettes, to go gold -
40,000 in sales - since Shania Twain's era. "It does not feel real, I am
definitely in shock," she said. Asked where she'll keep her award, she
laughed: "I'll probably just duct tape it to my body."

A day after
being named female artist of the year at the Canadian Country Music Association
Awards in Edmonton on Sunday, Moskaluke admitted the success still hasn’t sunk
in - “Yup. I’m literally in shock and I’m
not using literally like a teenaged girl,” Moskaluke said in a telephone
interview from Edmonton on Monday morning. “I got up and accepted the award,
got offstage and broke down. I was just vibrating. I’m sure I was exhibiting
all the signs of shock from like a car crash victim. “It was ridiculous.”
Moskaluke, a
24-year-old from Langenburg, was considered a dark horse heading into Sunday’s
awards show. Other nominees in the category included veteran star Terri Clark
along with Kira Isabella, MacKenzie Porter and Lindi Ortega.
Clark was the
clear favourite, having been nominated for the award 18 times in her career
with four victories to her credit.
Given the
quality of the nominees, Moskaluke knew it would be difficult to win the category.
“I just respect those women and love what
they do. Both before and after the awards I got to chat with every single one
of them and they’re beautiful women both inside and out,” said Moskaluke.
“They’re so talented and hard working ... Each and every one of them deserved
the award as much as I did.” Read More
Small Town Pistols from Trenton, Ont. won Group
or Duo of the Year.
"I think this kid's going to pop
out," said a seven-months pregnant Amanda Wilkinson to her brother,
Tyler Wilkinson.
"We had a lot of people who told us not to do
this," said Tyler Wilkinson backstage. "We had a lot of heart in
this, a lot of determination. We're two poor kids from Trenton, Ont., and we
just wanted to sing."
Album of the Year went to Nova Scotia-based B.C.'s Dean Brody for the Juno-winning CROP
CIRCLES - his third time winning the CCMA recording prize. "We took
some risks on this record I maybe wouldn't have on the first.
Fans' choice was again Johnny Reid, who is on tour in Europe. He also had the
biggest-selling album in Canadian country music with his A Christmas Gift to
You.
CMT Video of the Year went to Brett Kissel for “3-2-1”. "I've
dreamt of my day all my life," yelled the singer, who grew up in St.
Paul, Alta.
The hardware for
The Rising Star Award went to Tim Hicks, a
35-year-old country rocker from St. Catharines, Ont., who sported a ball cap instead
of a Stetson. He has amassed four Top 10 singles, two Juno nominations, three
GOLD certified singles and has an upcoming Fall tour with country star Dierks
Bentley – but Hicks said his success has been a long time coming.
He remembered
one job he took before he made it big, singing on a moving double-decker bus.
He turned green and his audience told him it was OK for him to sit down and
stop playing. “It took me 20 years to be
a rising star but I don’t regret any of those gigs,” he said. “I can’t wait
to go back home and share this with my friends and family and just continue
this wild ride.”

Their debut
single “Teardrop Tattoo” is currently at country radio.
2014 is proving
to be the year for Toronto-based The Lovelocks (MDM Recordings Inc. / Universal
Music Canada).

Lovelocks are a dynamic duo comprised of musical partners in crime Ali Raney (blond; freelance musician
(violinist/fiddle player, vocalist, acoustic guitarist, and mandolin player)

charts on the day of release. Praised by RocketHub as "crowdfunding pioneers
in the world of country music in Canada", with a strong social media play
The Lovelocks were able to raise $30,000 CDN to record their debut EP.
Ali Raney and
Zoe Neuman of The Lovelocks were back in Edmonton for their second CCMAs in a
row, this year to accept the 2014 Discovery Award. “Edmonton loves our country
music so we’re so happy to be here amongst country music fans,” they told CBC
News. That’s exactly what Zoe Neuman and Ali Raney are doing with “The

The 2014 CCMA
Awards Show brought together a wide array of Canadian country music’s brightest
stars and included performances by Jess

The show opened
with a high energy collaboration featuring The

The green carpet
was a flurry of black lace, gold jewelry, sequins, crinoline and leather, with
a hint of camouflage thanks to Paul
Brandt’s slim leg trousers. Alberta’s Brett
Kissel smooth-talked his way along the carpet in a gold-threaded black
jacket, while B.C’s Dean Brody looked rugged in a heavier grey tweed coat.
Beverley Mahood – The 39-year old Belfast born artist is
arguably one of the prettiest women of country on the Canadian circuit and
always cuts a beautiful figure on the carpet runways. The CCMA presenter donned
an open shouldered strapped dark blue pleated dress with gold fastening details
across the high waistband. A striking gold and silver jewelled fringe-type
tiered necklace, flowing locks and a nude lippie completed her gorgeous CCMA
2014 look.
Jess Moskaluke – The nominated CCMA Female Artist and
performer wore an above the knee flattering Poly/Spandex Blend sequined party
dress by BB Dakota which features a round neckline and back hidden zip closure. Bright
purple open-toe pumps, bright lips and cascading red curls completed her ravishing
look. Later for her performance she wore her hair into a tidy bun.
“I feel
wonderful, I feel waaaay too hot right now,” said female artist of the year
nominee Jess Moskaluke of
Saskatchewan, wearing a sequinned dress and hot pink, open-toed stilettos. “I grew up listening to people like Terri
Clark. It’s so weird being in the same category as any of those artists.”
Kira Isabella – Last years CCMA Female Artist and 2014
nominee looked elegant in a floor length black low cut evening gown which
features a scoop neckline with spaghetti straps and a mid cut straight across
back. Her lovely make-up and hair where the work of Toronto makeup artist Justine

The Interactive Artist Of The Year nominee wore a Laundry
by Shelli Segal embroidered print pencil skirt combined
with a black top and studded heels to create the reflection of the “LA Girl”–
feminine and contemporary with a fun and flirty attitude!

Michelle Wright – The 53-year old "Love Me Anyway" Canada
Day born Canadian Country queen opted for her familiar black a colour which
certainly suits her. She rocked class, elegance and sophistication in a flowing
evening beaded gown with illusion and lace back designs, and ravishing embellishments
on the ¾ length sleeve. It recalled Cassadee Pope's entrance at the 2013 CMA Awards in
a form-fitting Jovani gown. Later Michelle along with George Canyon presented and announced the CCMA 2014 Album
of the Year award.
One More Girl – This attractive Canadian country music
sister duo compose Carly McKillip and Britt McKillip were former 2010 winners
of the Rising Star award. Their promotional material and posters ooze drop-dead
gorgeous and on the CCMA green carpet they did not disappoint. Carly wore a
black strapped mini dress and Britt donned a deep plunging aqua coloured mini
dress both with cut-outs around the midriff. Soft make up complimented their

Tenille – The former CCMA Female artist wore a black Skater leather dress which had striped mesh
panel inserts across the shoulders and ¾ length sleeves. She complimented it
with lovely soft straight auburn coloured bangs bright green heels and bangles.
The Lovelocks – The duo coordinated and sweetened the
carpet in honey dresses. Zoe Neuman
went with a clean white strapless bodice with open back and a pleated gold
skirt and wore a fascinator in her dark hair. Ali Raney had blond

The Stellas – They made for a great family picture
when photographed on the carpet. Canadian natives Brad and MaryLynne Stella won the 2013 CCMA Group or Duo of the
Year award.
Brad wore a black blazer, shirt and aqua coloured tie matched by
his wife’s short high neck gown with sheer sleeves and train and wearing open
toe platform sandals. Seen with daughters Lennon Ray Louise Stella (15-year
old; born August 13, 1999) wearing a floor length black dress with lower cream
panel design and 10-year old Maisy Jude Marion Stella (born December 13, 2003)
in a pretty Asymmetrical cream outfit (with a black under skirt), with silver

Lennon and Maisy are
known to many as the two Conrad sisters by the TV-watching public as Maddie
& Daphne from ABC's "Nashville." Lennon and Maisy did not perform
but were on hand for social media duties.
