UK CHART NEWS

Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending November 8, 2014)

Taylor Swift's pop single “Shake It Off” rallied 5-3 (48,743 sales, 11-week tally 518,215) in her 11th straight week in the Top 10
a new record for Swift. The lead off single has become the fourth Swift song to sell upwards of 500,000 copies (518,215 total), and her total singles/track sales also reach a new landmark last week, passing the 5 million mark to end the week at 5,030,401.

With the new album 1989 released preview track "Welcome To The Woods" dipped 39-84 (2,893 sales, 2-week total 7,230 sales). No other song from the album manages to penetrate the Top 75 although four of them make the Top 200, namely "Blank Space" (No.99, 3,840 sales), "Out Of The Woods" (No.136, 2,893 sales), "Style" (No.147, 2,561 sales) and "Wonderland" (No.171, 2,285 sales). That brings to 31 the number of songs Swift has landed on the Top 200, though only 14 have made the Top 40 and just six have reached the Top 10.

Official UK Top 100 Album Chart (Week Ending November 8, 2014)

Taylor Swift has gone POP and gone stratospheric with fifth studio album 1989 set to sell upwards of a million copies on its first week on release in America. It opened atop the UK chart
with sales of 90,336 copies, her second Official Albums Chart No.1.

It became the fastest-selling album of the year by a female artist thus far overtaking previous record holder The X Factor winner Sam Bailey, whose debut THE POWER OF LOVE (named after Jennifer Rush's power ballad) sold 72,644 copies in its first week of release, back in March 2014 which had ten covers among the album's 11 tracks.
“1989” is the sixth highest weekly sale for an artist album thus far in the UK in 2014, and the highest for 17 weeks when pal Ed Sheeran's X sold 93,270 copies on its second week at #1.
Additionally “1989” debuted at #1 on the Ireland Album chart, #1 in Australia on the ARIA chart and #1 in New Zealand

1989 is also 46.22% higher than Swift's previous fastest start, as posted by her last album RED, which debuted two years ago last week at No.1 one on sales of 61,779 copies (chart week Oct 28, 2012). Tay’s first UK #1 album were driven by the fact that five of its tracks had made the Top 40 before its release although "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Again" was the only bona fide single at the stage. At the time RED was the first album by a female country singer to top the chart since 1999, when Shania Twain's COME ON OVER reached #1, and was the first number one album by an act that is “perceived as country” since The Eagles' reunion album LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN topped the chart five years previous.

1989” could become Tay’s biggest selling album. Last album RED only recently eclipsed 2009 predecessor FEARLESS (her best seller in America by far) to become Swift's biggest UK seller.
All of her previous albums, with to-date UK sales:
RED (510,107; #1 peak)
FEARLESS (499,698; #5 chart peak; debut sales 33,829; helped by her first hit single, “Love Story”)
SPEAK NOW (169,281; #6 chart peak, debut sales 28,223 in 2010)
TAYLOR SWIFT (127,154; #81 peak).
The latter self titled album TAYLOR SWIFT sold only 38 copies the week of its release date, and peaked 94 weeks later at #81(12/09/2009) . The album released on October 24, 2006 first appeared in the UK Chart at number 88 (05/09/2009). It was last seen on Chart at #99 (03/10/2009) and has spent 3 chart frames on the UK Chart – What a difference 8 years on 38 to 90,336 first week sales!
It will be interesting to see how her full on POP album 1989 will chart and sell compared to her last one
RED’s first 8 week UK album chart frames positions and sales were as follows:
#01 - 61,779 / #05 - 20,696 /#12 - 13,914 /#17 - 13,500 / #20 - 15,100 / #31 - 18,450 / #31 - 19,300 /#27 - 25,500
With renewed interest in Taylor Swift and discounting in HMV on her back catalog saw her October 2012 release RED return to the Top 100 with a 112-86 move to grab an 86th chart week.

Dolly Parton with BLUE SMOKE/THE BEST OF (Masterworks) fell 43-44 in her 21st chart frame (2,300 estimated sales, 21-week total 227,600).
Lady Antebellum with 747 (Decca) fell 50-71 (sales less than 1,500 copies, 4-week total 13,200)

ICYMI: Florida Georgia Line has more in common with country icon Willie Nelson than you might think. In a Billboard cover story, Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard admits they smoke marijuana after a reporter noticed a small metal pipe that smelled
like weed on a counter in Tyler's tour bus. The news shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, though. The guys' new song, "Sun Daze," contains a reference to getting stoned, and Tyler even told Billboard,"We're professional partiers." "Sun Daze" is included on FGL's new album, ANYTHING GOES.

The celebration for Lady Antebellum’s latest chart-topper, “Bartender,” couldn’t have come at a more perfect time for the trio, as they threw a Halloween-themed party Wednesday (Oct. 29). After mingling throughout the crowd, Hillary, Charles, Dave and their co-writer on “Bartender,” Rodney Clawson (sporting a gorilla mask), took the stage, where they were given various plaques and trophies for the song’s success.

Brandy Clark has signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records in Los Angeles. Clark, who is currently a CMA nominee for New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (for co-writing Kacey Musgraves‘ “Follow Your Arrow”), was previously signed with Slate Creek Records, recording home to Angaleena Presley. “I am thrilled to be working with Dan McCarroll and the Warner Bros. LA staff,” Clark said. “I’m so lucky to have a musical home that embraces and encourages originality and creativity. I’m so excited to be making music with them and look forward to this next step in my career.”

"She's the established female artist with children, and she's sort of at this crossroads in many ways in her career."...Sara is following in the footsteps of Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and the guys of Florida Georgia Line as the latest real-life country star to make a guest appearance on the show.

MUSIC NEWS

Pandora will provide artists with data and visualization tools to provide insight into their audiences. Called Pandora AMP, the suite of tools is intended to provide artists with the data for such tasks as picking singles, crafting set lists and routing tours.
The release of AMP coincides with the start of a fight over the future of Internet radio royalties. Earlier this month, companies filed initial comments in statutory royalty rate proceedings with the Copyright Royalty Board that will set rates for statutory Internet radio services like Pandora from 2016 to 2020. In effect, Internet radio services will spend the next year or so arguing for rates lower than those proposed by the recording industry.

The music industry continues to evolve, but some bad news is reported by The Wall Street Journal, which writes, "the growing availability of cheap music -- from free videos and streams to $10-a-month unlimited subscription plans -- is sapping demand for digital downloads at the world’s biggest seller of music, APPLE INC. Music sales at APPLE’s iTUNES STORE have fallen 13% to 14% worldwide since the start of the year.
As of the chart week Nov 1, 2014 the sales of country music digital tracks was down 17.1% (111,678,000 unit sales) compared to 134,708,000 at the same point in 2013.

SINGLE / ALBUM NEWS

Jo Dee Messina released her brand new single, “He’s Messed Up,” from her critically acclaimed studio album ME. The single, has been one of the Top 20 most downloaded and most streamed singles on Play MPE for the last three weeks and was just featured on the new radio show On The Horizon on SiriusXM The Highway (Channel 56) last week. The rock-infused track, written by Messina and Alyssa Bonagura, features back-up vocals by the fans who helped make Messina’s new music happen as Kickstarter backers, including a 14 year old who took the day off from school to be a part of the record.

Shania Twain says she’s in the middle of recording an album for new music in 2015 and a tour as well.
Billy Currington’s been working on his next album out in early 2015. His new single off that record, ‘Don’t It,’ is it at radio.

The cast of ABC-TV's "NASHVILLE" will release a holiday album, CHRISTMAS With NASHVILLE.
It will be released both digitally and physically on Tuesday November 4, 2014. The CD version be available in the U.S. exclusively at Target.
This title will be released in the UK by Decca Records on November 24, 2014. Pre-order the CD on Amazon UK
The album will consist of holiday standards and originals performed by more than a dozen "NASHVILLE" cast members.  The compilation is produced by Rascal Flatts' Jay Demarcus who guest-starred on the series last season.  That guest role led to a co-writing partnership with series star Sam Palladio and the eventual decision to have Demarcus produce "CHRISTMAS With NASHVILLE." The 12-track album will include Hayden Panettiere's take on "White Christmas," Charles Esten's rendition of "Blue CHRISTMAS," and a special duet by Connie Britton and Will Chase on "Baby, It's Cold Outside." The show, currently in its third season, debuted in 2012. Nashville pulled in 8.9 million viewers for its series premiere, The Hollywood Reporter notes. The Season 3 premiere only attracted 5.8 million viewers.

COUNTRY FASHION
Luke Bryan has teamed with Cabela's Inc. for the new 32 Bridge clothing line, which debuted Nov. 1 and is available exclusively at Cabela's. The men's and women's lines will target hunters,
fishers and country music fans. "This brand is so dear to me and such a big part of who I am that seeing it come to life is so exciting," says Bryan. Why the name '32 Bridge'? The Georgia native took it from the Route 32 Bridge, which crosses over the Flint River and marks the border between Worth and Lee counties, where he was raised. See the line "There is a place where woods and water meet for the perfect outdoor experience. Where whitetails slip through tall pines, quail whistle in the wind and bass hide behind flint rocks. Where kids learn life lessons and laughs with friends are nonstop. It's where I grew up fishing and hunting, that place - 32 BRIDGE." - Luke Bryan

The National Post of Toronto reports Mounties were called to the scene in Deer Lake at 2:10PM. Early reports indicated Cash was either drunk or had medical issues.
