The 44th CMAA
Country Music Awards of Australia, were be staged on Saturday 23rd January
2016 at the Tamworth Regional
Entertainment & Conference Centre (TRECC). The Awards are country
music’s night of nights when the winners take home the coveted Golden Guitar
trophies.

Sam McClymont and Travis Collins were the official hosts
for the 44th Toyota Golden Guitars Australia (aka Country Music Awards of Australia)
Performers included:
Lee Kernaghan performing with the New Talent nominees Brothers3, Christie Lamb,
Seleen McAlister, Mickey Pye and Caitlyn Shadbolt, Troy Cassar-Daley performing
with Paul Kelly, Beccy Cole, Shane Nicholson, Catherine Britt, Roo Arcus,

Troy Cassar-Daley, with his
album Freedom Ride, stole the show scooping five Golden Guitars from seven
nominations including, Male Artist of The Year, Album Of The Year, Toyota Heritage
Song Of The Year, Apra AMCOS Song of The Year and Single of The Year with
“Take a Walk in My Country”.
Lee Kernaghan capped off
a huge year, adding three more Golden Guitars to his collection. Lee picked up Awards for Vocal
Collaboration Of The Year (Spirit of the Anzacs), Video Clip Of The
Year (Spirit of the Anzacs), and Sanity Top Selling
Australian Album Of The Year (Spirit of the Anzacs).

Troy
Cassar-Daley has plenty to celebrate after winning five Golden Guitars.
The Grafton-raised country musician took out Album of the
Year (FREEDOM RIDE), Single ("Take A Walk In My Country"), APRA AMCOS
Song ("Freedom Ride”), Toyota Heritage Song of the Year: ("Freedom
Ride") and Male Artist of the Year at the 44th annual awards in Tamworth
for his ninth studio album FREEDOM RIDE.
Freedom Ride was the first solo album Cassar-Daley recorded
after undergoing surgery on his vocal chords in 2013.

His awards haul tonight brings his Golden Guitar tally to 32. The late Slim Dusty still holds the overall record of 37 Golden Guitar Awards.
Freedom Ride is a song that tells
the story of Charlie Perkins' trip around northern New South Wales half a
century ago to fight for the rights of Aboriginal people.
"It was just an
amazing thing to look at that story and try and put it into three-and-a-half
minutes," he said of the song, which he co-wrote with Paul Kelly.
Kelly said: "It's
really easy to write songs with Troy, he rings up and says 'I've got a few
ideas for songs, can I come down?' He comes down and he's usually got the song
mostly finished."
"He just needs
someone to cook some spaghetti for him and open a bottle of wine and have a cup
of tea, change a few lines here and there and we've got the song," he
said.
He celebrated 35 years since his first festival with a
performance depicting his time in Tamworth, from a young busker on the
Boulevard of Dreams to teenage up-and-comer and now country music superstar,
and was also joined on stage (Image) by Kelly to sing Freedom Ride.
The night kicked off with a high-energy
performance on the red carpet by Jared
Porter, 2014 Toyota Star Maker, and his band Jared Adlam on guitar, Reece
Baines on drums, Michael Cole on guitar.

Lee Kernaghan was the other big winner of the
night, bagging three awards including Top Selling Australian Album of the Year
for Spirit of the Anzacs.
He now has 36 of the golden gongs. “I think making the Spirit of the Anzacs was the greatest musical
experience of my life,” he said.
“It’s probably given me
a much deeper appreciation of what it means to be Australian. We just wanted to
make a fitting tribute to the men and women who serve and have served their
country.”
Kernaghan was joined on stage during the awards show by New
Talent of the Year winner Christie Lamb and finalists Brothers3, Seleen
McAlister, Caitlyn Shadbolt and Mickey Pye for a live performance of Spirit of
the Anzacs. The title track took out Vocal Collaboration of the Year and Video
Clip of the Year, and the album was Top-Selling Australian Album of the Year.
Dr Nelson said the idea for the album came from a meeting
two-and-a-half years ago, when the pair decided the nation needed an anthem for
the Centenary of Anzac.
"Lee and I stood
in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier and in silence we were
looking at the inscription I'd just put on the front of the Tomb: 'He's all of
them and he's one of us'," he said.
"I said to Lee,
I think by 2015 the nation will be looking for an anthem, and that's it."

Kernaghan - Spirit Of The Anzacs (Import)
2015 marks the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC's landing at
Gallipoli, In honour of this landmark occasion, music icon and former
Australian of the Year, Lee Kernaghan, teamed up with a host of local artists
and musicians to bring you 'Spirit Of The ANZACs.' Recorded at Rancom Street
Studio in Sydney, Lee worked with long-time producer and collaborator Garth Porter, Granted unique access to
the Australian War Memorial archive. 'Spirit Of The ANZACs' is inspired by the
letters of these diggers to their loved ones from WWI thru to the present day.
Coming off the back of her success at the 2015 ARIA Awards,
Newcastle girl Catherine Britt was
named Female
Artist of the Year after a year that
has included her best (getting married) and worst days (battling breast cancer)
Shane Nicholson's “Hell
Breaks Loose” won Alternative Country Album of the Year.
Group or Duo of the Year went to Adam
Eckersley Band picking up their 2nd golden guitar win having won Qantaslink
New Talent of the Year in 2015.
Despite not winning New Talent of the Year, Gympie singer Caitlyn Shadbolt has a bright future
ahead of her after winning a scholarship to travel to Nashville, America's
country music capital.

“My dad knew him and
I met him when he was an old man and still had horses and a dray he used to
pull around town and do a bit of work for the council,” he said.
“He worked on the Yarrawonga-Mulwala weir when 500 horses
and scoops were working on it. “Dad loved the song and I was really happy to
win for his sake.
“Singin’ Shoes is the
sound of horse shoes hitting sealed road.” I was really chuffed for them
because they put their heart and soul into this project,” he said.
For the first time in many years, the awards included the announcement of the Roll of Renown. Graeme Connors was the deserving inductee this year, with Max Ellis and Anne Kirkpatrick (the daughter of Slim Dusty and Joy McKean) presenting him with the accolade.
Connors thanked his home town and adopted town for their
support. "The community of Mackay,
believe me, when you feel like an honoured citizen in a town, it's amazing,"
he said.
"There's a
number of songs I have written that have been inspired by that community and
the community of Tamworth, which I feel is my second home, every time I come
here there's this real sense of total support."
This year marked 40 years since the release of his debut
album, AND WHEN MORNING COMES, and he has received a total of 14 Golden Guitars
Bush Ballad
of the Year winners were Allan Caswell who now has won 7 golden guitars and Manfred Vijars picked up his first.
Karin took the title in a sing-off with Tamworth's Allison Forbers and Picton's Miss Lancaster.
The final was staged as part of Toyota's Concert for Rural
Australia in Country Music Capital's Bicentennial Park on Jan 22nd.
Karin wins a huge prize including the full use of a Toyota
vehicle for 12 months, recording and video production plus guaranteed
performances at a number of venues including Tamworth and Nashville.

TOYOTA STAR MAKER 2016
On Friday night Jan 22, 2016: The 2016 Toyota Star Maker
title was run and won - congrats to WA's Karin
Page.
She triumphed over the two other finalists - Missy Lancaster and the homegrown Allison Forbes.
Previous winners include Keith Urban, James Blundell and
Lee Kernaghan.
It was all-girl Toyota Star Maker Grand Final on Friday after the girls were victorious at the hard-fought finals on Sunday.
After 10 artists performed two songs each, Tamworth's
Allison Forbes, West Australian artist Karin Page and Sydney singer Missy
Lancaster were announced as the trio who battled it out for the Toyota Star
Maker title on Friday night.
Page said she found out about the competition three years
ago when she was involved with Telstra Road to Discovery.

Page said her plans for the year ahead were everything the
competition was about.
"I've been on
the road for 18 months writing songs and I plan to tour and play festivals,"
she said.
"For the next 18
to 24 months, I want to get to as many festivals as I can. I would love the
financial support to be able to do things with the amazing team and the
industry guidance. It would be living the dream with the right people around
you."
Karin performed a ballad and an upbeat anthem that ended
with a toe-tapping reprise of “Stuck in the Middle with You”.
Toyota Star Maker co-ordinator, Cheryl Byrnes praised all the entrants saying;
“The Toyota Star
Maker competition continues to unearth some of the most exciting new country
music talent and tonight is no exception,” Toyota Star Maker coordinator
Cheryl Byrnes said.
“Our expert judging
panel found it extremely difficult to choose the one, but it’s a sign of just
how healthy the industry is overall, and that excites us.”
The victory will see Karin receive a prize pack including
the recording of three singles and three videos clips, a brand new Toyota
vehicle with an unlimited fuel card for 12 months, and guaranteed performances
at major festivals throughout Australia.
Karin was already set to join The McClymonts on some of
their tour dates later in 2016
Northern Daily Leader.com : Local Perth musician, Karin could soon be on that list after
taking out the title in Tamworth on the weekend. Karin was in the Mornings
studio to have a chat about what the win means for her career and performed her
new song ‘Keep On.’

Lamb has won her first Golden Guitar, taking out the CMAA Qantaslink New Talent of the Year award at the revered Country Music Awards of
Australia ceremony at Tamworth Country Music Festival.
The award wrapped up an incredible 12-months for the
multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who has been carving a musical niche
with her distinct style of country-rock. It is not the first accolade that the
talented songstress was nominated for in 2016, she is also a finalist for the CMC Female Oz Artist of the Year and CMC Oz Artist of the Year.
Winning the first Golden Guitar of her career is an
auspicious step for a musician who is already planning on heading into the
studio this year to record her next offering. In fact, Christie was one of only
two female artists to win on the night, proudly standing beside Catherine
Britt, who won the Female Artist of the Year accolade.
Christie says as an independent artist, she was blown away to receive the award and was proud to stand beside the other finalists who included incredible Australian artists. “Receiving the Golden Guitar was absolutely amazing,” she said. “I first went to Tamworth ten years before as a busker and watched all the big artists at TRECC. It was honestly surreal, looking at the artists in the front row and seeing all those same faces watching me on that stage accepting my Golden Guitar. It was honestly a night I will never forget.”
After forging a special music connection with Lee Kernaghan and Robby X in 2015 while touring as part of Lee’s iconic The Songs
& The Stories in Concert tour, Christie says the night was all the more
meaningful when they presented her the award. It gave her an opportunity to
publicly thank Lee for inviting her on the tour, which visited regional and
metropolitan centres during the second half of last year.
“To not only open the
show for Lee Kernaghan, but to sing with him and be a part of his band with The
Wolfe Brothers was definitely a dream come true for me,” she said. “It was a privilege to be part of such a
special tour showcasing the true stories from the hugely success The Spirit of
the Anzacs album.”
Christie also gave a nod to her fellow artists Amber Lawrence and Aleyce Simmonds for the good times they had during 2015 on The
Girls of Country Tour. She thanked the CMAA, Toyota and Qantaslink for
their support, and made special mention of her producer Andrew Cochrane and her
plans to record in 2016. Acknowledging the support of CMC and local radio,
Christie also thanked those in the media for giving artists a platform to
showcase their music and for supporting her career thus far.
Christie Lamb has been described as ‘the full package’, a vibrant multi-instrumental award winning singer-songwriter.
She gained success of her debut album ‘ALL SHE WROTE’ which spurned three #1 hit singles and two top 5
singles. Following a sold out album launch in Sydney, ‘All She Wrote’ hit #1 on
the Aria Hit Seekers Album Chart (All Genres) and #2 on the ARIA Australian Artist
Country Chart.
“Christie is an
incredible artist; not only an amazing singer, she is also an extremely
talented multi-instrumental musician. She opens the concert with songs from her
debut album, then joins my band on guitar, piano & mandolin. Christie sings
all the female vocal parts from the ‘Spirit of the Anzacs’ album, including
show-stopping solo performances of ‘Song For Grace’ and ‘Only 19’.
At just 23 years of age I reckon Christie Lamb is the one

Christie previously toured with Australian stage and screen
legend Jon English for 55 dates across Australia during 2012/13. Cast as the lead female vocalist, also
playing piano and guitar as part of the ‘Rock Revolution’ tour.
She managed to juggle her studies and complete her Bachelor
of Music on a full scholarship at The University of Western Sydney during this
time, and smashed on to the Australian Country Music scene with her debut EP in
2012.
Constantly impressing at live performances her profile and
loyal fan base only continues to grow. Christie has subsequently been booked on
Australia’s Premier Country Events, including Gympie Music Festival, Deni Ute
Muster, Mud Bulls and Music Festival, Broadbeach Country Music Festival, Urban
Country Music Festival, Cruising Country and Sydney Country Music Festival to
name a few.

The album represents all award categories and features local artists including Shane Nicholson, Troy Cassar-Daley, Luke O’Shea, Amber Lawrence, Catherine Britt, Beccy Cole, Lee Kernaghan, Mustered Courage, Adam Eckersley Band, Aleyce Simmonds, Ashleigh Dallas, Dean Perrett and many more, representing a broad stylistic range. 2016 CMAA Red Carpet
The Golden Guitar Awards are held during the Country Music
Festival in Tamworth each year.
And on Saturday night the stars were out to shine for the
44th annual event, as Amber Lawrence stunned in a strapless gown, while Brooke
and Samantha McClymont dazzled in sparkles.
Others opted to make a statement in outfits that were more
'yee haw' than yes, especially The Hillbilly Goats who arrived in a very

A sweetheart neckline elegantly showed off her ample assets
and she finished her look with shimmering gold accessories and a vibrant red
lip.
Ashleigh Dallas - The 2014
Best New Talent winner, 2016 nominee for Female Vocalist and there to present
The Bush Ballad of the Year award, donned a bright blue frock with lace
detailing across the chest and an Elvis inspired collar around the neck paired
with matching boots. This was paired with boots that appeared to be made with
the same satin as her skirt, with the ankle boot style cutting her legs short
in the outfit.
The performer even went the extra mile and dyed the front
of her fringe the same blue hue as her dress and shoes.

Female Artist of the Year nominee looked summery in bright kaftan style gown by

Hayley Jensen – Pictured

Singer/Songwriter Top 10 finalist in the Toyota Star Maker was styled by CLD PR.

Kaylens Rain (Kaylee
Harrison & Glen Harrison) Brother and sister Contemporary Country/Rock duo
looked happy on the red carpet. Kaylee looked wonderful in a silver embellished
sleeveless gown and sported lovely side swept locks.

sitting at #35 on the Country Music Channel chart.
On Feb 3 it was big congrats to the happy couple Kaylee and

Libby O'Donovan & Beccy Cole Beccy wore a blue outfit with dark cropped jacket, adding black shoes and wore her signature bright red lippie. Libby wore a pretty crimson with black lace overlay detailing. The Cowgirl and the Showgirl were celebrating their recent engagement.
When O’Donovan turned 40 recently, Cole took the opportunity to propose at the birthday party, in front of their family and friends and she said yes. “I didn’t believe it when she did it,” O’Donovan said. “It was the best celebration ever.
“We had such a huge party at our house and everyone has been so supportive. I was sobbing.”
They will marry when marriage equality legislation is passed in Australia. Cole was in the running for six Golden Guitars - “I’m blown away by the nominations,” Cole said. “This is an ever-changing industry, so to be in there with a shot is fantastic.

The baby of the family Mollie was officially on maternity leave from the band

Sara Storer – The Australian
country singer-songwriter looked fresh in a sleeveless floor length flower
print dress, sported a neat up-do adding jewels and carried a black purse. Sara
Storer fans could rejoice with the news she was slated to be back with a new
album in March. The as-yet-untitled album is the fruit of plenty of hard labour
as Storer juggles life as a performer and a mother of four boys, aged from
about 10 months to nearly seven years old.
The Sunny Cowgirls – Wearing
cowboy hats they looked pretty in light green and white lace dresses paired
with tan ankle boots.
THE Sunny Cowgirls have enjoyed a big year personally
and professionally, with Sophie Clabburn
learning the value of speed dating and Celeste
Clabburn branching out into making music alone. Celeste launched her debut
solo album, KEEPING ME HERE, at the Family Hotel, but they will continue
performing together, and Sophie recently got married in Perth on December 10th.
Tori Darke - The
Female Artist of the Year nominee stunned in a beautiful Sheike & Co oufit.
Being nominated for a Female Artist Golden Guitar
demonstrates the hard-work the singer-songwriter has put into her career,
especially over the past 12-months with the release of her latest album. “This
is something I have strived for, for more than half my life,” said Tori of the
nomination. “I am overwhelmed with
excitement and feel that I have to pinch myself to make sure it is real. This
year has been a bit crazy, both personally and professionally. I really want to
share this new chapter of my life and my new album with everyone, I just want
everyone to hear my music”.
With new material under her belt, returning to the Tamworth
Country Music Festival for her annual trip was an exciting prospect. “It’s
always exciting returning to Tamworth,” she shared. “I am so looking forward to sharing with my fans the 11 new songs off
my album. It will be great sharing some experiences with them and seeing their
reaction to my new songs.”

However, the biggest fashion fail on the night came from The Hillbilly Goats, who strutted their
stuff in what could have been a Halloween costume. Straw cowboy hats, a Mohawk,
embellished corsets and fishnet stockings gave them a look that definitely made
them stand out, although it wasn't for the right reasons.

Maddy Lang named Queen
of Country Music at 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival:
The winner was Maddy
Lang. She was crowned the Queen of Country Music, Dominique Judd the
princess, and Adina Hanley voted in by her fellow entrants as Miss
Congeniality, at Friday night's gala dinner at the Tamworth Jockey Club.
The new festival royalty were chosen after a final round of
judging in which the 13 quest entrants were quizzed about their views on topics
