RECAP
Luke Bryan was the big winner at Sunday night's (May 1, 2016) American Country Countdown Awards show, winning trophies for Male Artist of the Year and overall Artist of the Year. The Capitol Nashville recording artist repeated his win from 2014’s telecast, and unseated Jason Aldean in the overall category. (The ACCAs were not presented in 2015.)
The night’s other multiple winner was Sam Hunt, who won Breakthrough Male Artist of the Year, as well as Top Digital Album for his million-selling MONTEVALLO disc.
Carrie Underwood took home honors in the Female Vocalist category, snatching the trophy from Miranda Lambert – who won in
2014.
Kelsea Ballerini won the prize for Breakthrough Female Artist of the Year, after a twelve-month period where her first two singles ("Love Me Like You Mean It" and "Dibs") topped the charts.
Other winners during the evening included Thomas Rhett for Song of the Year for his "Die A Happy Man" single, Little Big Town’s "Girl Crush" for Digital Song of the Year, Chris Stapleton for Album of the Year (TRAVELLER), Old Dominion for Breakthrough Group / Duo of the Year, and Florida Georgia Line in the Group / Duo of the Year field.

Reba McEntire presented longtime friends Brooks & Dunn with the Nash Icon Award for their long and illustrious career. They treated the crowd to a laid-back performance of “Red Dirt Road,” a No.1 single from 2003 that also enjoyed crossover success, peaking at No.25 on the Hot 100. The stakes were low, but the duo’s catalog remains vital, and the pair seemed to be enjoying themselves -- near the end of the song, Brooks gave Dunn a playful push.

"Brooks & Dunn have indelibly etched their legacy as the biggest-selling duo in Country music history," said Executive Producer Mark Bracco (News April 19, 2016). "Their outstanding career achievements have influenced legions of artists and fans alike, and we're proud to recognize their tremendous success and ongoing musical impact with this well-deserved award."

Indio, CALIF. (Tuesday, May 3, 2016 | Press Release) – The Press-Enterprise raved Old Dominion brought “fun summer vibes” and The Desert Sun noted Stagecoach-goers were “impressed by Old Dominion’s modern country” when the five-piece band made their debut on the Mane Stage at the 10th Anniversary of the festival May 1. But it was later that night that the enormity of the weekend sank in following a win for Breakthrough Group/Duo of the Year on the ACC Awards on FOX.
When we started this band, winning awards never crossed our minds,” shared front-man Matthew Ramsey who, like his bandmates, have celebrated successes as songwriters before having hit records as a band. “We just wanted to make the best music we could. But winning this award really shows us that the years of work we have put into this are paying off in ways we never dreamed of. We owe so much to our families, our management team, our record label, country radio and our FANS for embracing what we do and making us feel at home in the country music family!”
The win follows on the heels of earlier 2016 award wins at the Academy of Country Music Awards for Best New Vocal Duo/Group of the Year and the Association of Independent Music Publisher Awards (AIMPs) last month for Artist/Writer of the Year.

This one’s for the girls and all about girl power!
Martina McBride, Jennifer Nettles and Cam teamed up to open the American Country Countdown Awards with Martina’s 2004 hit “This One’s For the Girls” and they rocked the ACCAs house. This was a performance “to celebrate a fantastic year for women in country.” As Sara Evans put it later, “country music is a team sport”, and the camera took the song’s mandate literally, focusing only on female fans in the crowd as they bobbed their heads and sang along.
“This One’s For the Girls” peaked at No.1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 2004, but it’s message of female empowerment is still relevant 12 years later.
Jennifer, Cam and Martina all began the song on different parts of the stage. Jennifer opened the track with Cam joining in on the second verse. Martina then took center stage, where the other two singers soon joined her.

Kelsea Ballerini just called dibs on an amazing ACCAs moment. The 22-year-old singer performed her single “Dibs” for the first time on the American Country Countdown Awards and lit up the stage.
Kelsea wowed the crowd with a bright, colorful performance reminiscent of her “Dibs” music video she shot at a fair, complete with ferris wheels and lots of lights.
She kicked off the song by sending a tweet from her phone. Kelsea kept the social media theme going with emojis corresponding to her song lyrics appearing on screen.
In the press room she wore A George Hobeikaa dress, open strappy Stuart Weitzman sandals, Drukker Designs fine gemstone jewelry, SWAROVSKI jewelry, Navette and Round Crystal Adornment Post Earring in African Violet.
