Commenting on this incredible achievement The Shires stated: “We are thrilled ‘My Universe’ has been certified Gold in the UK. Thank you to all our fans who continue to support our music and the UK Country movement, which continues to grow and thrive. There is so much great UK Country talent coming out of the UK right now, with the USA starting to take notice of what we and other acts are doing. It’s a great time to be making Country music!”

The Shires also announced (Weds 1 March) the release of their next single ‘Drive’. The country-rock tinged single, with its delayed guitars and stadium sized drums is the latest single from the UK Country superstars who landed three consecutive A-list on BBC Radio 2 for previous singles releases including; ‘Beats To Your Rhythm‘, ‘My Universe‘ and 'A Thousand Hallelujahs’. Co-written with USA Country music star Kip Moore, the song has potential to break across the pound as well as the UK. Discussing the tracks potential Decca’s Managing Director, Rebecca Allen stated: “Drive is one of those tracks that has potential to break not just the UK, but it will no doubt resonate with USA Country Radio too. Kip and the band have written a modern country pop classic and I’m sure when the time is right the USA label Big Machine, will launch it into the stratosphere.”
The Shires celebrated a landmark year in 2016 with the release of their new album 'My Universe' which stormed the Official UK Album Chart, landing at No.3 (14,913 sales), and becoming the fastest-selling UK Country album of all time. The duo received endorsements from celebrity fans including Robbie Williams, as well as resounding support from the media, including BBC Radio 2, being made Album of the Week at the station and landing three consecutive A-list singles; ‘Beats To Your Rhythm‘, ‘My Universe‘ and 'A Thousand Hallelujahs’. A packed summer festival schedule also included their first Headline performance at Glastonbury, on the Acoustic Stage.

Last year The Shires also joined the ranks of prominent US Big Machine Label Group Country artists Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett by signing an exclusive recording deal with the leading US Country music record label (Dot Records).
The Shires are undoubtedly seen as the trailblazers of the UK Country music movement in the USA as well as the UK, which saw a sea change in recent years, with the British public fully embracing the genre.

2017 has already seen the band appear on BBC One’s ‘One Show’ and with imminent plans to focus on expanding their presence in the USA, as well as another big UK Headline Tour, 2017 is already shaping up to be another landmark year for UK Country, with The Shires leading the way.
