Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of April 29, 2017)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The Chainsmokers bowed at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart with their debut full-length album, MEMORIES… DO NOT OPEN. The EDM duo's set earned 221,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 13, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 166,044 were in traditional album sales.
Memories’ sales launch was powered by a concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with the duo’s tour, which kicked off on April 13 in Miami. The ticket/album offer was also included with select dates of the act’s residency at the XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas. Memories is the first album to simultaneously lead both the Billboard 200 and the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in nearly three-and-a-half years. The last to do so was Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP, when it debuted at No. 1 on both tallies dated Nov. 30, 2013 (with 258,000 copies sold in its first week).
Vocal group Pentatonix claimed its seventh top 10 album as PTX Vol. IV: Classics starts at No. 4 with 54,000 units (50,337 in traditional album sales). The new Classics effort includes renditions of familiar favorites like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Over the Rainbow” and the group’s Grammy Award-winning redux of Dolly Parton’s Jolene” (alongside Parton herself). In the UK they delivered their third Official UK Top 75 Album entry, debuting at No.41 (1,994 sales).

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of April 29, 2017)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Keith Urban with RIPCORD (Hit Red/Capitol Nashville) climbed 2-1 (#13-23 Billboard 200) selling 10,785 copies (down 38%; 49-week total 536,700). It’s his 4th non-consecutive week at No.1 returning to the top since chart week issued April 8, 2017.

Miranda Lambert with THE WEIGHT OF THESE WINGS (Vanner/ RCA Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) slipped (12-31 BB200) selling another 9,727 copies (down 57%) in her 21st chart week.

Chris Stapleton with TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) was a non-mover at #3 (#32-38 BB200) selling 6,789 copies (down 21%; 102 week total 1,893,400).

Florida Georgia Line with DIG YOUR ROOTS (BMLG) held at #4 (#33-40 BB200) selling 3,578 copies (down 20%; 33-week total 375,600).
Brett Young with self-titled debut (BMLG) bumped 11-5 (#51-49 BB200) selling 4,085 copies (down 2%; 9-week total 51,600).

Joey Feek with IF NOT FOR YOU (Farmhouse/Gaither/Capitol CMG), the solo album that Joey Feek, half of the duo Joey + Rory, recorded in 2005, arrived on Top Country Albums at No.6 (#50 BB200). It earns 11,000 equivalent album units, with 10,492 in pure sales marking the 21st best seller in America and #2 on Country Album Sales.

Feek, who died March 4, 2016, after battling cervical cancer, recorded the album prior to Joey + Rory’s first LP release, The Life of a Song, which debuted and peaked at No. 10 on the Top Country Albums chart dated Nov. 15, 2008. If Not for You was co-produced by her husband, Rory Feek, and Bill McDermott. The disc contains 12 songs, including a tribute to Joey Feek’s brother Justin (“See You There”) and the original version of “That’s Important to Me,” a charting single (No. 51) for Joey + Rory in 2010.

ccmmagazine : “This recording is, of course, a significant one for us,” said Paul Sizelove, vice president of Gaither Music Group. “I grew up in the same hometown with Joey and watched she and her family love each other and the people along their paths. We all watched her move to Nashville to pursue her dreams. Things seemed to come full circle when, years later, our label was able to join hands with Joey and Rory along their recording journey.  What a blessing it has been to be a part of their inspiring story. It is an honor to release this recording that captures so much of her heart and heritage and represents a dream of hers coming true.”
A special CD deluxe edition features a 48-page booklet of photos, memories and stories penned by Joey, her family and husband, Rory. Containing her original rendition of “That’s Important to Me,” cameo appearances from her parents and a tribute to her late brother, this recording highlights Joey’s unmistakable voice and honours her life of never-wavering faith that continues to inspire.

BLOG www.thislifeilive.com- In the spring of 2005, Joey and I were still newlyweds (we had only been married for three years). I was still just writing songs for a living and Joey was a solo artist, at least she wanted to be. But unfortunately, the doors on music row weren't opening for her. And the few that did open, seemed to close again right away.
So, that April, we went in a small studio in Nashville and recorded an album of songs with Joey singing and me and our friend Bill McDermott behind the control board....Read More

Critical reception for Joey Feek’s If Not For You:
12 Tracks/ Time: 43:19
Feek originally recorded If Not for You in 2005, but the record was only available via her husband Rory Feek’s online store and at live shows that the Feeks performed as Joey + Rory.

Sounds Like Nashville by Chuck Dauphin (Rating: Very Positive) …Upon first listen to these
“new” cuts, you will find there is nothing too drastically different from the duo’s records here. “That’s Important To Me,” a staple of the couple’s live show is included, and it doesn’t differ much from the version that you know. As is the case with their music, you will find several songs with emotional undercurrents, such as “Strong Enough To Cry” and the tender “Nothing To Remember” that will definitely leave an impact on the listener......All in all, fans of the music that this couple made together will definitely gravitate toward the sounds here, proving that Martin knew exactly who she was and who she wanted to be. Thankfully, she got to become that very artist. This is a testament to that!

Roughstock (Rating: Positive) ...What’s especially interesting about these songs is that they tell stories that still fit within Joey’s worldview. This is an artist who knew who she was and who she wasn’t. The honest and sincere vocal delivery is a delight even 12 years after the record was recorded. This is a record that deserves a wide audience and one that I’ll be going back to whenever I need a soothing voice to heal broken parts of my soul.

Thomas Rhett with TANGLED UP (Valory) rose 10-8 (#46-56 BB200) selling 2,653 copies (down 22%; 81-week total 564,000).
Reba McEntire with Sing It Now: Songs Of Faith & Hope (Rockin' R/Nash Icon | BMLG) fell 7-9 (43-63 BB200) selling 8,212 copies (down 18%; 10-week total 153,900).

The Lacs with their 12 tracks AMERICAN REBELUTION (Backroad Records/Average Joes Entertainment; Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at No.10 (#65 BB200) selling 8,370 copies.
The Lacs career trajectory accelerates with every new album and every new beat. Staying true to who they are, the new studio album is a 12-pack of party anthems with a fresh take on what they know best.

With American Rebelution, Georgia-bred country rap unit the Lacs turn in their sixth volume of hick-hop party anthems, drinking songs, and skits. A staple of the Average Joe's Entertainment label, the Lacs once again team up with Florida rappers Hard Target on a handful of tunes while also collaborating with country duo Montgomery Gentry on hooky lead single "Jack in My Coke." There's a somewhat ominous tone to the title cut, but overall the veteran group stays true to their time-tested formula.
Published on Apr 15, 2017 The Lacs and Montgomery Gentry team up on new music video “Jack In My Coke.”
