Erin Rae releases new track 'Like The First Time' & June UK tour announced

Introducing Nashville’s Best Kept Secret…Erin Rae

Finally stepping out into the spotlight, East Nashville’s go to harmony girl - Erin Rae now stands front and centre releasing her personal and empowering new single ‘Like The First Time’

THE 405 PREMIERE - “HER FINEST WORK YET”

UK TOUR IN JUNE, INCLUDING LONDON’S GREEN NOTE (20 JUNE)
JOY FESTIVAL AND MAVERICK FESTIVAL

The first track to be peeped from PUTTING ON AIRS, out September 2017.

“With a voice that swoons and soothes”– Rolling Stone

“Rae exudes a natural sweet huskiness in her voice that falls somewhere between Patsy Cline and Aimee Mann” – American Songwriter
"One of my favourite up and coming singer-songwriters" - Margo Price
"A hidden gem in plain sight" - Wide Open Country

Although until recently relatively unknown to the wider media, if you speak to any seasoned pro or rising star in Nashville – they are likely to have sung with Erin Rae.

Known as East Nashville’s go to harmony girl – if you’re listening to a record by Margo Price, Anderson East, Andrew Combs or chatting to Richard Thompson or Aaron Lee Tasjan – they will sing the praises of Erin Rae. As an incredibly talented singer-songwriter it wasn’t long before Erin stepped out into the spotlight and it was also little surprise to the songwriting community when Erin’s full length debut ‘Soon Enough’, received huge critical support from long-time tastemakers at NPR alongside the likes of Rolling Stone, The Fader, and more. She has also already made her mark on the UK with her debut tour last year creating an underground buzz that resulted in support from the BBC and UK country publications such as Nashville Over Here.

Today Erin Rae announced the release of her new single, ‘Like The First Time’ (produced and engineered by Dan Knobler), which premiered on The 405, who described the track as, “drawing from country but infusing with 60s psych, Rae is capable of drawing genres and ideas that are seemingly at odds with one another into something quite remarkable”.
The track will be officially released on 9 June.

It’s unique languid feel combined with retro fuzz drenched guitar solos, may draw comparisons to European 60s psyche guitar soundscapes created by the Beatles and Yardbirds but to many ears it also mines deep, creatively disparate influences such as Richard Hawley, Wilco and Michael Nau. With an angsty feel, Erin’s vocals sooth (already drawing comparisons to Aimee Mann and Feist).

Recorded at The Refuge in Appleton in Wisconsin in a beautiful, historic Franciscan monastery-turned-creative space on Wisconsin’s Fox River - the perfect setting for tracking Erin’s genre busting new single, which continues the vocal and song serving restraint of her indie-country tinged debut, ‘Soon Enough’,

The tracks empowering lyrics are very personal, with Erin sharing her desire to take a stand in her relationships, “Like The First Time is about making the mistake of thinking I can control how someone else perceives me or how they feel about me. It's about the pit in your stomach feeling after you go against what you feel is right, to try to keep someone from being angry with you. How it's super sad to disregard how you feel to try to appease another person. I think that's why this ones more angsty sounding. Lots of pent up emotion in that."

MORE ABOUT ERIN

Born into music, Erin initially grew up in Jackson, Tennessee – before moving to Nashville at 11 years old.
Her introduction to folk music came early – with Mom and Dad both respected but off-radar part-time musicians – Erin often joined them on stage singing backing at age five, in churches, county fairs and in the coffee shops of West Tennessee.

Her Mom, close with many of the songwriting community saw potential in her daughter and through a connection with family friend and country superstar ‘Kathy Mattea’, Erin was introduced to Nashville star vocal coach, the wonderful late Phoebe Binkley.

Phoebe was a Nashville legend, coaching Reese Witherspoon (for her appearance in film, ‘Walk The Line’), Crystal Gayle and Erin personally for many years until her passing in 2016.

Inspired by her work with Phoebe, Erin began teaching others herself and became one of the most popular vocal coaches in Nashville, teaching on the side, whilst she built her own songwriting career – Erin stated, “I was so fortunate to work with Phoebe, because she helped me to develop my natural ability and encouraged me to stay true to my art. Because she was so connected to generations of musicians gone by, as well as present day talent, I felt very connected to a sense of musical tradition in Nashville, and more confident in my work. I felt like I came from a musical heritage outside of my bloodline, as well as the talent and influence passed down by my parents. I love to pass on that support to my students - just trying to see what they are envisioning for themselves and using what I know to support them in that. It’s a really cool way to get to know people, too. You're working on the technical side of the voice, but, for me, it’s so intertwined with the personal side.”

Both the DIY East Nashville indie scene and Americana community have strongly embraced Erin’s music. Perhaps because she bridges the sonic gap between classic country songwriting sensibilities found in artists identifying as Americana, but combined with a left field creative indie mindset, using a wider synthesis of genres that has also drawn a young indie crowd to Erin’s shows.

Considered one of Nashville fastest rising stars, Erin’s focus is now on her own music – and with her second record about to receive rave reviews and a hotly anticipated UK tour – it’s no wonder that Erin is happy to take her turn in the spotlight.
