The King is dead, long live the King: Wednesday (August 16) marked the 40th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, and the timely re-promotion of compilation THE 50 GREATEST HITS - a No.8 album when first released in 2000 - sees that album re-enter the charts at No.2 on sales of 15,308 copies (including 908 from sales-equivalent streams).
Looking set to become Presley's 14th No.1 album - a tally that would further his position second only to The Beatles (15) - it was, however, pipped at the post, by Ed Sheeran's Divide. Sheeran came from behind to retain leadership of the chart by just 35 sales, with Divide No.1 for the 16th time in all and second week in a row on sales of 15,343 (including 7,219 from sales-equivalent streams).

It also brought to three the number of deceased American icons in the Top 10, charting alongside the recently deceased Glen Campbell, whose last album, ADIOS slipped 2-3 (10,968 sales; 9-week estimated total 83,200) and John Denver's THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION (6-9, 4,931 sales). Presley's The Real Elvis jumped 2-1 (3,314 sales) on the budget album chart, while Campbell's Gentle On My Mind - Best Of rose 3-2 (2,340 sales).
Dolly Parton with THE VERY BEST OF (Sony BMG) fell 75-78 (peak #8; 36 chart weeks) with estimated sales of 1,000 copies sold

NY Times.com: Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer discussed their painful past and their unbreakable sisterly bond while touching on their much-anticipated collaborative record Not Dark Yet and the solace found in singing together.
The two learned music and ambition from their parents, who both wanted to pursue music professionally. “Our parents taught us how to be individuals and artists,” Ms. Moorer said. “But not how to make money or have healthy relationships,” her sister added.

(18 August 2017) Jerry Douglas - What If (Rounder)
11 Tracks/ Time: 51:59 Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com -| #51 US Country iTunes Debut
Jerry Douglas, the 14x GRAMMY award winner who has played on over 2,000 separate recordings (Alison Krauss, Mumford & Sons, James Taylor, etc.), presents a new album with a unique sound and a brand-new outfit of musicians, hand-picked by Douglas himself. On What If, Douglas decisively merges jazz inclinations with the bluegrass, country, blues, swing, rock, and soul he's spent his life absorbing and performing, forging a sound that flies beyond the boundaries of anything he - or anyone else - has done before. From the up-tempo combination of what Douglas calls 'bebop jazz and caveman jazz' on 'Cavebop' to the symphonically sweeping title track, What If delves into areas unexplored by any other musician, much less by Dobro! The album also includes a funky, soulful take on Tom Waits' '2:19' and a blistering bluegrass-meets-jam-band reinvention of the classic 'Hey Joe.'

Anglo/Americana” they call it, this punch of diluted flavours: a teeny bit folky, a teeny bit country, a teeny, teeny bit blues-rocky. Really, it’s just MOR adult pop, and these two sisters and a cousin from Exeter are at their best when their three-part harmonies approach (from a distance) the gutsiness of Haim on Run, with its big, shameless heartbeat drums and hooky chorus. Less winning are the wafty Dove, with its off-the-peg alt-reverb, or the naff, stomping-Boudicca braggadocio of Warrior Daughter, weak chimeras of current stylings. Still, the swoop and swell of their voices together can’t help but please the ear, and they’ll likely go far. (2 STARS The Guardian)

(16 Aug 2017) NEW MUSIC Stephanie Rose "Rusted Love"
Release Aug 18, 2017 - UK iTunes
Stephanie Rose grew up in the small community of Debden, Saskatchewan, Canada (population 350) with her parents and older brother.  The family farm provided the backdrop for much of her country music lyrics.
Reflecting on her singer/songwriter inspiration, Stephanie recalls, "Living on a farm seems to bring an abundance of homegrown experiences. I got first horse when I was 5 so my mom and I spent countless hours riding and just having fun. Diamond, my horse, is 23 years old and although she's slowed down a bit on the barrels and gymkhana events, she still has enough fire that she'll unseat me if I'm not paying attention," she laughs.

Unknown to many, Stephanie was also developing her musical talent. At age 9 she got her first guitar. As both her parents worked off the farm, Stephanie would get home after school and spend at least 2 or 3 hours everyday learning to play the guitar while singing along to her favorite country artist.
She recalls, "I was always so busy with horses, sports and school activities that coming home and playing my guitar and singing was a great way to slow things down and unwind."
"I'm so thankful for growing up in a small community because I've had such a loyal group of people cheering me on - I see them in the crowd and it just puts a smile on my face."
Stephanie Rose will be showcasing at this years Diamonds in the Rough at Canadian Country Music Week in Saskatoon at The Radisson between the hours of 1:00pm and 1:45pm - if you are attending - mark this in your calendar as a must attend!
Rusted Love.  Stephanie co-wrote Rusted Love with Tenille Arts and RyLee Madison.

(18 Aug 2017) Bridgestone Arena Not Selling Any Country Concert Tickets Until After December 1st Due To Contract With Garth Brooks
So Shania Twain Can't Sell Tickets To Her Scheduled Nashville Dates Until After December 1st
In an exclusive article in Billboard today it is reported that while Shania is doing a rock tour.  When  Shania Twain  this week announced her  47-show North American tour  kicking off in May, the venue for only one date -- a July 21 concert in Nashville -- was marked as "to be determined," with the on-sale date "to be announced."
The reason: the Nashville venue that Twain's team booked, Bridgestone Arena, isn't selling tickets for any country acts until after  Dec. 1, as per the terms of its contract with  Garth Brooks, according to Twain's manager Scott Rodger and an executive at Twain's promoter, Live Nation.
"This is just a really bad precedent, to say 'you can't sell tickets before I sell mine,'" Rodger told Billboard, adding that he was worried about getting negative reactions from Nashville fans who will be unable to buy tickets like the rest of the country when they become available on Aug. 25. "We're heading back to the dark ages."
Twain’s tour kicks off May 3, 2018 in Tacoma, Wash., and ends in Las Vegas on Aug. 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Though her music no longer has the country sound of her 1993 self-titled debut or her best-selling 1997 album Come On Over, the five-time Grammy winner is still widely considered the top-selling country artist of all time, with more than 90 million albums sold worldwide and more than 34.5 million albums sold in the U.S.
In the end, she will still be able to put her Nashville tickets on sale more than seven months in advance of the show, but the Live Nation official expressed surprise that Bridgestone wasn’t able to make an exception for her earlier on-sale. Read More Billboard.com

R.I.P
(16 Aug 2017) Jo Walker-Meador Passes (1924-2017): Country Music Hall of Fame member Jo Walker-Meador passed away following a stroke at age 93.
Walker-Meador was the first paid employee at the CMA, joining in 1958 as Office Manager and rising to Exec. Dir. in 1962. She was the longest-serving employee in that position, retiring in 1991. Under her leadership, CMA launched initiatives including the Country Music Hall of Fame (created in 1961), the CMA Awards (created in 1967 and televised nationally since 1968) and the CMA Music Festival (launched as Fan Fair in 1972). Arrangements are pending.
"Jo was a champion for country music around the world and a groundbreaker for women in the entertainment business," said CMA CEO Sarah Trahern. "On a personal note, I will miss her guidance, humor, and friendship. She was the first meeting I set up before I took this job. She taught me lessons in how to gracefully navigate the Board. She was always diplomatic in her storytelling and she had some great ones to share. Over the last six months she was a little more candid and I always looked forward to our time together. She will be greatly missed by all. My heart is broken."
She was Executive Director of the CMA from 1962 to 1991. Walker-Meador was at the CMA from its creation in 1958, hired as office manager. In 1959 she organized a banquet that later became the CMA Awards. After former CMA Exec. Dir. Harry Stone departed, Walker-Meador assumed his role. She retired in 1991 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1995. Arrangements are pending.
