“Lay Her Down” was recorded live at Momentum Studios (Website; Old Newnham Farm, Plympton, Plymouth, PL7 5BL) in March 2018. Josiah Manning and Jake Galvin filmed it. The video was produced and edited by Paddy Blight.

The band’s new single, ‘Lay Her Down’, opens with atmospheric acoustic guitar and a bowed double bass laying a frosty bed for vocalist Lara Snowdon to delicately tread upon. Almost immediately upon the introduction of drums and violin I’m reminded of much the missed Brother & Bones because the of the intensity of the aural atmosphere created by these musicians. ….Much as Sound of the Sirens and Wildwood Kin emerged from the Exeter scene to make a splash further afield, I fully expect Velvet & Stone to be next in line. Velvet & Stone’s brand of indie-folk combines haunting soundscapes with catchy pop hooks and great songs – giving an original and beautiful take on a traditional genre. Crafting their live set with performances at Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections and Somersault, they take their audiences on a journey from stunning melodies to foot-stomping folk-rock.

Led by the ethereal combination of Lara Snowdon’s vocals, and Kathryn Tremlett’s violin, Velvet & Stone’s music draws upon personal stories, melancholy tales and rugged landscapes, creating a sound that is difficult to forget. Their music has flavours of singer-songwriter influences such as Ben Howard and Beth Orton, and a raw appeal from influences such as Seth Lakeman, The Cranberries and The Levellers.

The band released their single ‘Raise Your Ghosts‘ in August 2017, followed by the The Embers EP in October 2017. Their music has gained plaudits from across the music press, airtime on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Wales and is championed by their local BBC Introducing team! Velvet & Stone, released their EP 'EMBERS' on 13th October 2017! The four-track EP, recorded at Cube Recording in Cornwall, is the second EP released by the band who celebrated the release at a launch party at the Bike Shed Theatre Cocktail Bar in Exeter on 13th October 2017 followed by a string of dates around the South West. 

The new EP features acclaimed cellist Caroline Lavelle [Radiohead; Massive Attack; Muse; Loreena McKennit; Afro Celt Sound System], and producer/ engineer Gareth Young on percussion across all of the tracks.
