Panic! at the
Disco Bundle To Top
Panic! at the Disco bowed atop the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200) with
PRAY FOR THE WICKED, earning the act
its second No.1 album on the tally. Panic previously hit the top of the list
with its last studio effort, Death of a Bachelor, which opened at No.1 in 2016.
Pray
for the Wicked -- which was released on June 22 via DCD2/ Fueled by Ramen --
launched with 180,000 equivalent
album units earned in the week ending June 28, according to Nielsen Music. Of
that sum, 151,000
were in
traditional album sales. Both figures represent the biggest week for an
alternative rock album in 2018. Pray’s handsome sales were encouraged by a
pre-order campaign for the album via the act’s official merch store, where
pre-orders made by June 21 included early access to purchase tickets to the
act’s tour.
POP/Country
duo Dan + Shay collected its third top 10 effort, as its SELF-TITLED third studio set debuted at
a career-best-tying No.6 with 44,000 units
(24,000 in traditional album sales). The act previously visited the top 10 with
its first two albums: OBSESSED (No. 8 in 2016) and WHERE IT ALL BEGAN (No. 6,
2014).

Country Albums Chart (dated July 7), earning 44,000 equivalent album units
in the week ending June 28, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 24,000 were from traditional album sales.
The third studio album from the duo of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney
(produced by Smyers and Scott Hendricks) is the pair’s second Top Country
Albums No. 1.

WHERE IT ALL
BEGAN debuted at No. 1 on April 19, 2014 (with 28,648
copies sold). That feat made them the first duo to debut at #1 on that
tally since SoundScan began tracking sales digitally in 1991. The project was
also the highest-charting debut project released in 2014.
While the No.1 launch marked a first in the
tally’s 50-year history, for a rookie duo Dan + Shay were just the third
duo to reach No.1 with a full-length debut album, following Big & Rich’s “Horse
of a Different Color”, which reached the summit in its 16th chart week (Sept.
4, 2004), and Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s to the Good Times”, which finally
reigned in its 28th week (June 29, 2013).
OBSESSED released on June
3, 2016 Warner Bros. Nashville opened and peaked at No. 2 on June 25,
2016 (25,848 sold).

Dan
Smyers and Shay Mooney’s self-titled third studio album was co-produced by
Smyers and Warner Music Nashville EVP/A&R Scott Hendricks (Blake Shelton,
Michael Ray, William Michael Morgan). The 11-song project includes the lead
single “Tequila,” written by Smyers, Nicolle Galyon and Jordan Reynolds,
“Keeping Score,” featuring Kelly Clarkson, and “Speechless,” the >> video for which uses
footage from their weddings. The hit single, “Tequila,” has accumulated a
staggering 131 million on-demand streams
and is currently nearing the top spot at country radio as the most-streamed
song on the chart. The official video has earned nearly 25 million YouTube
views.
PROMOTION:
Dan + Shay have performed the song on Ellen, the 2018 ACM Awards and the 2018
CMT Music Awards, where they took home the award for Duo Video of the Year.
Concurrently, “Tequila,”
the first single from the new album, became the duo’s fourth Country Airplay
leader, lifted 2-1. On the Hot Country Songs chart, “Tequila” held at its No.2
high.
“When we first moved to Nashville, we would walk around the office on
Music Row and see Billboard charts printed out, only dreaming of one day seeing
our names listed,” said Smyers. “To watch ‘Tequila’ climb the [Country Airplay]

When immersing oneself in each track on Dan + Shay’s self-titled project, it
becomes clear that the duo of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney know how to capture
the story of a song not only through the power of their vocals, but in their
ability to create meaningful lyrics that make their work feel like
poetry.....Dan +
Rollingstone (Rating: 3.1/2 STARS) ....
transcending obvious comparisons to Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox with a voice that
is both lithe and brawny, yet steeped in contemporary vernacular. Co-producer
Smyers bridges adult-contemporary pop, power balladry and modern country,
dabbling in vaguely Caribbean sounds on “All to Myself” and adding
record-scratching loops to “No Such Thing.” Dan + Shay are at their most
collectively potent on the soulful cuts “What Keeps You Up at Night” and

native of East Texas, Paul Cauthen was raised in Tyler, Texas, learning how to
sing and play at the hands of his grandfather, a songwriter from Lubbock who
associated with that town's local legends Buddy Holly & the Crickets.
Cauthen recorded Have Mercy -- a seven-song collection of originals that was
somewhere between an album and EP -- with Bedford at Modern Electric Studios in
Dallas, supported by the collective of DFW musicians calling themselves the
Texas Gentlemen.
Saving Country Music (Rating 5/10) … Paul
Cauthen and this Have Mercy EP are far from the problem. Many will find favor with it,
and shouldn’t have their opinions discounted or questioned. These types of
efforts are still much better than most mainstream alternatives, while
revitalizing the sound and appreciation of classic country music by proxy. Paul
Cauthen is a fun artist both recorded and live, serving a sound that clearly
appeals to certain people. The question is how to swell the amount of people
who appreciate Paul Cauthen by finding a more authentic and compelling way to
present his irrefutable God-given talents.

the duo’s fourth Country Airplay leader. It lagged 43.9 million audience
impressions (up 14 percent) in the tracking week ending July 1.
With “Tequila” ascending to No.1 and Dan + Shay’s new LP debuting atop
the country albums chart, the act is the first to achieve the feat since Blake
Shelton, whose If I’m Honest bowed at No. 1 on Top Country Albums while “Came
Here to Forget” hopped 4-1 on Country Airplay on June 11, 2016.
Before Dan + Shay, the last duo or group to earn such a double was
Rascal Flatts, whose UNSTOPPABLE launched at No. 1 on Top Country Albums as “Here Comes Goodbye” flew 6-1 on Country
Airplay on April 25, 2009.
As it reached the Country Airplay penthouse in its 25th week, “Tequila”
marked Dan + Shay’s fastest trip to No. 1. Their first leader, “Nothin’ Like You,” reached the summit in
