Superstar vocal group Rascal Flatts was surprised by the RIAA (May 8) with a plaque celebrating their 30 MILLION RIAA Awards spanning multi-PLATINUM, PLATINUM and GOLD hits across their career. The milestone honor is a career achievement award celebrating total sold units of various singles and albums to date. The group received the plaques during a pre-ceremony for the 6th Annual GMA Honors and Hall of Fame Ceremony in Nashville. The evening also saw Rascal Flatts recognized for their significant contributions through their humanitarian efforts, particularly for their work to help Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of May 18, 2019)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Vampire Weekend's 'Father of the Bride' Album Bows at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart
Vampire Weekend scored its third No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200), as the band’s Father of the Bride bowed atop the list.
The set earned 138,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 9, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 119,000 were in album sales (driven largely by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer for the act’s upcoming tour, which launches in June). Both sums represent the largest for any rock album in 2019.
Father was released on May 3 via Spring Snow/Columbia Records. It is the group’s first album with Columbia Records after issuing three studio albums and a live set through XL Recordings.
Father earned just 1,000 in TEA units (track equivalent albums) and 18,000 in SEA units. The latter figure translates to 20.29 million on-demand audio streams for the set’s songs in its opening week -- the biggest debut streaming week for a rock album in 2019.

Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Luke Combs with his debut LP, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) led Top Country Albums for a 34th week (#16-12 Billboard 200; 27,000 equivalent album units, up 5%), tying Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 set Some Gave All for the seventh-longest reign in the chart’s history. Shania Twain’s 1997 LP Come On Over leads with 50 weeks on top.

Produced by Jacob Rice, Grow co-wrote all but three songs on the 12-track project, which includes latest offering “Nobody’s You” and previous singles “History” and “Boots.”
Colebrook Road with 10-track set ON TIME (Mountain Fever Records  | Amazon) made a debut at No.48.

On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart - which blends:
a) All-format airplay, as monitored by BDS
b) Sales, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and
c) Streaming, (tracked by Nielsen BDS from such services as Spotify, Muve, Slacker, Rhapsody, Rdio and Xbox Music, among others) according to BDS it results in:

Morgan Wallen achieved his first No.1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as “Whiskey Glasses” (Big Loud) rose 2-1 in its 30th week on the survey (dated May 18). It dethroned Luke Combs’ “Beautiful Crazy” (River House/Columbia Nashville) after 11 weeks on top.
“Whiskey” led with a 9% increase to 33.5 million airplay audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music, as it rose 6-4 on Country Airplay. It pushed 4-3 on Country Streaming Songs (9.9 million U.S. streams, up 8%) and dipped 2-3 on Country Digital Song Sales (12,000 downloads sold, down 1%).


























“My first No.1 on the Hot Country Songs chart happened on my 26th birthday [May 13],” Wallen told Billboard. “This is truly a day I’ll never forget.”
The track, written by Ben Burgess and Kevin Kadish, follows Wallen’s first Hot Country Songs top 10, “Up Down” (featuring Florida Georgia Line), which hit No. 5 on June 30, 2018. “Up” led Country Airplay the same week, becoming his first No. 1 (and FGL’s 12th of 14 leaders).
Wallen made his chart debut with “The Way I Talk,” which reached No.30 on Country Airplay and No.35 on Hot Country Songs. All three singles are from his first LP, If I Know Me, which entered at its No. 11 Top
Country Albums high in May 2018. He boasts one other Hot Country Songs entry: his version of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” (No. 46 in April). Americana titan Isbell released the original on his 2013 album Southeastern, while Morgan’s cover of “Cover” is a stand-alone single.

Lee Brice with “Rumor” (Curb) rose to the top 10 of Hot Country Songs (11-9) and Country Airplay (12-8). The track, which he wrote with Ashley Gorley and Kyle Jacobs, marked his seventh Hot Country Songs top 10 and first since “Drinking Class” (No. 3, 2015). On Country Airplay, where “Rumor” increased by 12% to 24.5 million impressions, Brice banked his ninth top 10 and first since “That Don’t Sound Like You” (No. 10, 2016).

Luke Combs with “Beer Never Broke My Heart” (River House/Columbia Nashville), rocketed onto Hot Country Songs at No.12 and Country Airplay at No.15 (15.2 million impressions).
Aided by hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia stations on its May 8 release date, “Beer” marked Combs’ highest Country Airplay start. It’s the chart’s top entrance by any act since September 2012, when Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” opened and peaked at No. 13. (In April 2012, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw’s “Feel Like a Rock Star” also debuted at No. 13 before peaking at No. 11.)
Combs also gained his ninth top 10 on Country Digital Song Sales (19,000 sold) as “Beer” bowed at No.2.
“Beer,” which is currently a stand-alone single, follows Combs’ unprecedented five straight career-opening Country Airplay No. 1s: “Hurricane,” “When It Rains It Pours,” “One Number Away,” “She Got the Best of Me” and “Beautiful Crazy,” all from his debut LP, This One’s for You.

With Gold-certified hit “Eyes On You” earning the top spot at Country radio for the second consecutive week on both the Mediabase and Billboard charts, multi-Platinum entertainer Chase Rice celebrated the result of years of hard work that have triumphantly culminated in his first No. 1 hit as an artist.

Written by Rice alongside frequent collaborators Ashley Gorley and Chris DeStefano, the singalong chorus of “Eyes On You” tells the story of a man so enamored by a woman that the world’s most beautiful settings pale in comparison.
In addition to instantly becoming a fan-favorite at live shows and a viral sensation – streamed more than 50 million times and hitting Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 Chart before it was even announced as a single, then landing on Rolling Stone’s “10 Best Country and Americana Songs of the Week” upon its release – “Eyes On You” has now been streamed more than 130 million times and has also earned critical praise as evidence that Rice’s unique journey and hard work thus far is paying off.

Thomas Rhett rolled up his 14th Country Airplay top 10, a sum that includes 12 No.1s, as “Look What God Gave Her” (Valory) rose 11-9 (23.9 million in audience, up 5%). On Hot Country Songs, it bulleted at No.7. “Look,” which Rhett penned with his father, Rhett Akins; Julian Bunetta; John Ryan; and J Cash, was inspired by his wife, Lauren. It’s the lead single from his fourth LP, Center Point Road. The set, due May 31, is named after the street on which he grew up in Hendersonville, Tenn.

Blake Shelton with God’s Country” (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) held at No.1 on Country Digital Song Sales (#4-6 Digital Songs) and led the list for a personal-best sixth week, with 20,000 sold. It also drew 4million U.S. streams in the tracking week.
It was five places behind Lil Nas X who extended his reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 to a sixth week with "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. "Road" rebounded 2-1 on the Digital Song Sales chart for a fourth week at No.1, with 78,000 downloads sold (up 1%) in the week ending May 9.
Of Note: Taylor Swift's "Me!," featuring Brendon Urie collab fell from No.1 to No.4 on Digital Song Sales (29,000, down 85%) and 2-5 on Streaming Songs (26.8 million, down 47%), while ascending to the Radio Songs top 10 (13-10; 62.2 million, up 15%).

Released on May 3, Old Dominion with their ballad "Some People Do" (co-penned by Thomas Rhett) arrived at No.9 on Country Digital Song Sales (#33 New Entry Digital Songs) with 7,000 sold, marking the band’s sixth top 10. On Hot Country
Songs, it started at No. 39.
Lee Brice with “Rumor” fell 8-10 (#37-35 Digital Songs) in his 21st week.

Outside the Top 10
Gabby Barrett with “I Hope” advanced 24-11 (#36 New Entry Digital Songs). The rising star returned to ABC's American Idol Sunday night (May 5) with a fiery performance of red-hot new song. She pulled out all the stops for her first appearance on Idol since her third place finish on its first season on ABC. With her powerhouse vocals on full display, Barrett threw it back to her roots with a gospel-style choir, while emphasizing the "full of venom and vitriol" (Rolling Stone Country) track with silver pyro and a striking beaded Jovani jumpsuit. Reaching new heights, “I Hope” rocketed to #3 on the iTunes Top Country Songs chart.

Kudos to Luke Combs, Steve Hodges, Shane Allen, and the Columbia team on setting a new one-week add total with 149 for “Beer Never Broke My Heart.” The song topped the "Most Added" board this chart week.
The mark surpassed the 145 adds Arista secured for Carrie Underwood’s “Smoke Break” in August of 2015.
