Kylie Minogue landed straight in at Number 1 on this week's Official Albums Chart with her greatest hits collection STEP BACK IN TIME: THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION.

It means Kylie collected her seventh chart-topping album in the UK, following last year's Golden hitting the top spot in April. A worthy winner after her performance at Worthy Farm, Minogue may not have excited as much social media attention as Stormzy and The Killers but BARB overnight audience ratings suggested that 3m tuned in to watch her – more than twice the figure for any other act – clearing the way for Step Back In Time to secure the 51-year-old Australian a No.1 album on consumption of 31,980 units (including 1,225 from sales-equivalent streams + 30,755 paid-for sales including Vinyl: 5,682, Cassettes: 2,047).

(July 2019) Braun Buys BMLG
Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings LLC Buys Big Machine Label Group In Deal Reportedly Worth $300 Million
Big Machine Label Group has been purchased for more than $300 million by Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings, according to the Wall Street Journal. President/CEO Scott Borchetta is expected to stay with the company in that role and will have a seat on Ithaca's board, according to the report. Founded Aug. 31, 2005 by Borchetta, Big Machine grew from a roster of three – Jack Ingram, Danielle Peck and Taylor Swift – into a group with three promotion staffs, dozens of employees and the world's biggest music star – Swift, who departed for Universal late last year. Read the WSJ report here
"The idea of Scott and I working together is nothing new; we've been talking about it since the beginning of our friendship," said Braun. "I reached out to him when I saw an opportunity and, after many conversations, realized our visions were aligned...By joining together, we will create more opportunities for artists than ever before by giving them the support and tools to go after whatever dreams they wish to pursue." added Borchetta, "Our artist-first spirit and combined roster of talent, executives and assets is now a global force to be reckoned with. This is a very special day and the beginning of what is sure to be a fantastic partnership and historic run."
The acquisition also launched a social media disagreement between former BMLG artist Taylor Swift, Borchetta, Justin Bieber and Braun's wife. See those posts here, here, here and here, respectively.

People.com Taylor Swift Slams Scooter Braun for 'Manipulative Bullying' After He Acquires Her Music Catalog
(1 July 2019) A Timeline Of What Happened After Scooter Braun Acquired Taylor Swift's Big Machine Catalog. News broke on Sunday (June 30) that Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Records along with Taylor Swift’s six-album catalog. Swift was apparently shocked, and shared her thoughts through a heartbreaking Tumblr post soon after.
Since the story hit, there’s been a lot of “he said, she said” on both sides, with Big Machine founder/CEO Scott Borchetta responding to former iconic BMLG star Swift’s post with his own letter, followed by several other artists chiming in with their opinions. Read More
Update: Sia has hit back after being accused of using blackface by Taylor Swift fans, after the Chandelier hitmaker offered her support to Scooter Braun amid his ongoing feud with the Shake it Off star.
The disagreement between Taylor and Scooter, following the sale of the Big Machine Label Group - which holds all of the singer's master recordings - to Justin Bieber's manager, hit headlines at the end of last week.
Various names have come forward to voice their support for either Taylor or Scooter, with Sia calling the music mogul a "good kind man" in a tweet on Monday.
Taylor Swift's attorney has fired back at claims suggesting her former record label boss gave her the chance to buy back all her master recordings, insisting that deal was never on the table.
Now, Erik Logan, who sits on Big Machine's board of directors, is accusing Swift herself of lying and bullying in her response to Borchetta selling the label to Braun.

You Need To Calm Down Behind The Scenes: Morning Routine

(1 July 2019) Delta Rae: Album III - The Light 3/20/20
Delta Rae launched a crowdfund Kickstarter to make 2 albums!
They shared here’s the plan: We are going back into the studio with the producer of Carry The Fire, Alex Wong, to record two sister albums that will reflect the dual sides of Delta Rae: The Light and The Dark. The Light will be hopeful, soulful, and sun-kissed and will be released in Spring 2020. It will include songs like “The Wrong Ocean” and “Any Better Than This.” The Dark will be mysterious, witchy and raw and will be released soon after. We will go on an expansive tour with each record, crafting live experiences beyond just music, to bring these worlds to life for you.

We made our first album, CARRY THE FIRE, independently with the help of amazing fans on Kickstarter. Since then we’ve been lucky enough to sign with two different labels, but the music industry isn’t geared toward a band like ours, that can’t be limited to one genre or put in a box. Which is why we couldn’t be more excited to tell you, that as of a few weeks ago, we are an independent band once again!
This means, for the first time in a long time, we will fully control and own the music we release. We can make and share live albums, singles, and protest songs whenever we want. It means more mystical music videos and wildly ambitious creative projects with no holds barred. We are free!
In 3 days £133,529 had been pledged of £23,737 goal by 1,237 backers with 58 days to go. UPDATE £186,414; 1,768 backers
Budget for making an album independently in 2019:
$10,000 Production; $3,000 Auxiliary Musicians (Strings, Horns, etc.); $10,000 Mixing; $2,000 Mastering; $5,000 Physical Production (CD + Art);
How Taylor Swift Accidentally Helped Delta Rae Fund Their New Album
The day before, on June 30th, news of Big Machine’s sale to manager Scooter Braun became public. Later that same day, Taylor Swift expressed her feelings about the sale and, well, most of the internet was reduced to a pile of cinders. Delta Rae proceeded with their announcement as planned.
“We stuck with that plan and didn’t think about it,” said Brittany Hölljes (one of Delta Rae’s four lead singers). “None of us knew what was going on until we checked Twitter.”
Their post had blown up, mentions now populated by Taylor Swift fans rallying behind their hero’s call for an artist’s right to own their master recordings.
“It may have looked like a statement from us,” says Hölljes, who says it was coincidental timing. But she agrees that her group and Swift share the same feelings about music ownership and “being able to forge ahead with a future of creating the art you want to create and having the artist actually benefit.”
Hölljes declines comment about working with label President/CEO Scott Borchetta, but notes that the label wasn’t always the best fit for their sprawling brand of folk-rock.
Now, with a spectacularly successful fundraising campaign between their diehard fans and Taylor Swift’s mobilized army, Delta Rae can afford to follow that muse wherever it goes. Read more Rollingstone.com

(2 July 2019) Kacey Musgraves Country Music Hall of Fame Exhibit
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum celebrated the opening of its new exhibit, "Kacey Musgraves: All of the Colors," Monday evening (July 1). The display commemorates Kacey Musgraves' musical journey and includes personal artifacts, handwritten lyrics, stage wear and more. Musgraves' exhibit opened to the public Tuesday (July 2), and will be available for viewing through Sunday, June 7th, 2020.

"To be given my own space in a building that is full of such rich history is something I don’t take lightly," shared Musgraves. "I didn’t think it would make me super emotional, but to see everything laid out in a physical sense, in a physical timeline from birth to today, it’s a really nostalgic and beautiful feeling for me because there’s so much that you forget. I’m somebody that gets really focused and excited about what’s right in front of me, and then I check it off and move on to the next thing. There’s a lot that gets lost in the blur of all the busyness, but there’s a lot to be celebrated and a lot to be remembered, so ... it’s really a special moment.

(2 July 2019) Billboard Selling Swift: What's Next for Big Machine's Taylor-Made Catalog and Possible Greatest Hits?
With Taylor Swift clearly unhappy about the deal Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta has struck to sell the Big Machine Label Group to Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings for upwards of $300 million, things can get sticky going forward when marketing her six-album catalog. But Big Machine will still be able to capitalize on her music, even if she doesn't cooperate, industry executives say.
"It's preferable to work with the artist," says one catalog executive. "But if you can't work with the artist, you can still do marketing and promotion for their records, the same way you can still do it for the music of an artist that's died."....Read More

"Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm (f**k with me) no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure," he wrote, adding a rainbow, starry-eyed face and yellow star emoji. Nas's post came after he made a surprise appearance at Britain's Glastonbury music festival to perform Old Town Road alongside Miley Cyrus and her dad Billy Ray, who appears on the remix of Nas' chart-topping country inspired tune. The musician then stayed on stage to perform another of his new tracks entitled Panini, sharing a clip of himself on the Pyramid Stage on his Twitter page and writing: "MY FIRST TIME IN ANOTHER COUNTRY!!! INSANE."
