The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes
traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
Young Thug Scores First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With
'So Much Fun'
Young
Thug achieved his first No.1 album on the
Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200), as SO MUCH FUN debuted atop the
list. The set earned 131,000 equivalent album units in the week ending
Aug. 22, according to Nielsen Music. Of that unit sum, just 5,000 were in album
sales — the rest was driven almost entirely by streaming activity.
So
Much Fun’s total unit start of 131,000 was comprised of 5,000 in album sales, 1,000 in TEA
units, and 125,000 in SEA units — easily making it the most-streamed album of
the week.
The
125,000 SEA sum equates to 167.9 million on-demand audio streams for the
album’s 19 tracks in its first week. That’s the fifth-largest streaming week
for any album in 2019 and the second-largest week for a hip-hop album this
year. The four larger weeks in 2019: the debut weeks of Ariana Grande’s
Thank U, Next (307.1 million; Feb. 23-dated chart), Billie Eilish’s When We All
Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (194 million, April 13), Juice WRLD’s Death Race
for Love (176.4 million, March 23) and the second week of Thank U, Next (168.6
million, March 2)
At
No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Lionel Richie with his new live album Hello
From Las Vegas arrived with 65,000 equivalent album units. Nearly all of
that sum was album sales, powered almost entirely by sales generated
from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer tied to his summer
tour.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)
“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.

JASON ALDEAN EARNS 23RD CAREER AND
FOURTH CONSECUTIVE RADIO CHART-TOPPER OFF NO. ONE ALBUM REARVIEW TOWN
ACM "Artist of the Decade" Jason Aldean with “Rearview
Town” (Macon/Broken Bow) rose 3-1 in its 26th week on Billboard’s
Country Airplay chart (dated Aug. 31), increasing by 8% to 39.9
million audience impressions in the week ending Aug. 25, according to Nielsen
Music. It took the top spot on both Mediabase/Country Aircheck Singles chart
and Billboard's Country Airplay this week. On Hot Country Songs thee track
lifted 7-4 for a new high in its 33rd week.
“Rearview Town,” which was penned by Kelley Lovelace, Bobby Pinson and
Neil Thrasher, marked Aldean’s 21st Country Airplay No. 1, tying him
with Keith Urban for sixth place among all artists for the most leaders on the
chart
(which launched in 1990). Kenny Chesney leads with 30, followed by Tim
McGraw (29), Alan Jackson, Blake Shelton and George Strait (26 each).
With the title track, Aldean scored his fourth No. 1 on the list from his
eighth studio LP, which debuted at the summit on both Top Country Albums and
the all-genre Billboard 200 dated April 28, 2018. The set has earned 1.3
million equivalent album units (496,000 in traditional album sales) since its
release.
“It has always been important to put out music that says something to
me,” Aldean told Billboard. “So to have four No.1s off this record is really,
really cool, especially eight albums in.”
“Rearview Town” follows the album’s previous three No. 1s: “Girl Like
You,” which ruled for two weeks starting Feb. 2; “Drowns the Whiskey”
(featuring Miranda Lambert), which reigned for two weeks beginning Aug. 25,
2018; and “You Make It Easy,” which also led for two weeks, beginning May 5,
2018.
Aldean is the first artist to score four or more Country Airplay No.
1s from an LP since Luke Combs rolled five straight leaders from his debut
LP, This One’s for You (River House/Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville),
from May 2017 through this April. The record for the most such No. 1s from one
set belongs to Luke Bryan, whose 2015 album Kill the Lights produced six
leaders.
Aldean first reached the Country Airplay summit with his second entry,
“Why,” which led for a week in May 2006. His debut title, “Hicktown,” became
his first of 30 top 10s (No. 10, October 2005).
Known to "immediately turn up the velocity" (Calgary
Herald) as he is "one of the top live performers in the current Country
music landscape,” (UPROXX), Aldean continues to make
"fan fervor reach a roar” (Times Colonist) during his
2019 RIDE ALL NIGHT TOUR that will wrap at the Texas’ Rangers Globe Life Park
on Oct. 11th. The “reliable performer” (OC Register) will also make his return
to Las Vegas, December 6-8, for JASON ALDEAN: RIDE ALL NIGHT VEGAS at Park
Theater at Park MGM.
Aldean is known for "pushing the boundaries of Country music" (USA
Today) as “he sells out stadiums and continues to bring his singles to the top
of the radio charts,” (Forbes). The multi-Platinum entertainer
has ushered in more than four billion digital streams while selling over 18
million albums. Aldean is only the second Country act in history to score four
consecutive chart-toppers on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart with his
current album REARVIEW TOWN, with six of his previous LPs having achieved
Platinum certification or better.
Morgan Wallen with “Whiskey
Glasses” (Big Loud) held at No. 7 in its 52nd week on Country Airplay, up by 1%
to 27.1 million impressions. The song, which topped the chart for three weeks
beginning June 8, has now logged 19 weeks in the top 10 (including 10
following its reign), tying for the third-most top 10 frames with
Luke Combs’ “She Got the Best of Me” (2018-19), Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road”
(2017) and Mark Wills’ “19 Somethin’ ” (2003).
Only two titles have spent more time in the Country Airplay top 10:
Lonestar’s “Amazed” (21 weeks, 1999) and Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You” (20
frames, 2002-03).
