2014 SESAC Nashville Music Awards

SESAC kicked off CMA Week by honoring the songwriters and music publishers behind the year’s most-performed Country and Americana songs at the organization’s Nashville Music Awards held Sunday, November 2,  at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
This past year, its songwriters have been responsible for country hits with titles such as "Drink to That All Night," "Bartender," even "Beer With Jesus." It's only fitting, then, that the SESAC organization celebrated this year's hit songsmiths over drinks and dinner Sunday night at the annual SESAC Nashville Music Awards. Read More at The Tennessean

Songwriter of the Year Rob Hatch (second from right)

Drink To That All Night,” written by Lance Miller and published by Songs of StyleSonic Music, Melvin’s Pistol Music and Melvin’s Bullets Music, was named Song of the Year. The song was recorded by Jerrod Niemann who was on hand to open up the show with the infectious party anthem.
About: Established in 1930, SESAC was founded as the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers. It is a service organization created to serve both the creators of music and music users through music licensing and timely, efficient royalty collection and distribution.  Songwriters and publishers are paid royalties based on many factors, including state-of-the-art monitoring and computer database information.

BMI Country Awards 2014

  • Vince Gill was honored as BMI Icon on Tuesday November 4, 2014 in Nashville, Tennessee
  • Eleven years ago at the CMA Awards, Vince stood onstage and sang a wistful Music City tribute called "Young Man's Town." "Just teach 'em what you know, and pass it on down," he sang. "'Cause man, you gotta face it, it's a young man's town." But on Tuesday Nov 4th, 57-year-old Gill was the toast of this young man's town. Hundreds of music industry members rose to their feet in salute as Gill received a BMI Icon award, an accolade that doesn't go to young men. The Icon prize puts him in the company of past honorees including Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Tom T. Hall and Merle Haggard. Gill's friends Keith Urban, Ashley Monroe and Michael McDonald sang for Gill, with Urban performing "I Still Believe In You" and "Liza Jane," Monroe delivering ballad "Whenever You Come Around" and McDonald offering an emotional take on Gill's "When I Call Your Name."
  • Rhett Akins was named Songwriter of the Year, with writing credits on seven of the most-performed songs of the past year, including “Boys Round Here,” recorded by Blake Shelton featuring Pistol Annies, “Hey Girl” by Billy Currington, “I Can Take It From There” by Chris Young, “It Goes Like This” by Thomas Rhett, “Parking Lot Party” by Lee Brice, “Point at You” by Justin Moore and “When She Says Baby” by Jason Aldean.
  • Darius Rucker’s hit “Wagon Wheel,” penned by Ketch Secor, won the coveted Song of the Year award. Published by Blood Donor Music, “Wagon Wheel” was one of the most-performed country songs of the year.

Tickets to the awards have reached a new high on the secondary market, eclipsing an average of $550 per ticket. That makes it the most expensive ticket since the show moved to Bridgestone Arena in 2006, according to research by ticket search engine SeatGeek, which aggregates secondary market listings into one location. Tickets have risen 28% from last year's CMA Awards, which had an average price of $433 per ticket. In 2011, by comparison, the average ticket on the secondary market cost $343.
The cheapest ticket is $244, and that's in section 305 inside Bridgestone's upper deck - The Tennessean

THE TROPHY
At its inception in 1967, the CMA Awards trophy was designed to resemble a chart bullet. Constructed of a rich walnut and a sturdy marble base, the trophy signified the strength, durability and warmth of the genre. A brass music note adorning the center read “Best Liked World Wide,” CMA’s slogan at the time. The limited supply of walnut wood in 1983 encouraged a transition to crystal, the material still used today. With the update arrived a new medallion in the center that has been modified only slightly since. Today’s 15-inch, 7.5-pound trophy is a stylish, high-value adornment made of hand-blown fine crystal in Florence, Italy, with final assembly by Francis & Lusky in Nashville, Tenn. The CMA logo appears on a tri-level, die-struck medallion in polished bronze. After the CMA Awards winners have been revealed live on the annual broadcast, the award is engraved with the winner’s name and CMA Awards category.
