Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of June 2, 2018)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Korean boy band BTS debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200) with its latest effort, LOVE YOURSELF: TEAR. It’s the first No. 1 for the seven-member group, and the first K-pop album to lead the tally. The set, which was released through BitHit Entertainment on May 18, launches with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 100,000 were in traditional album sales.
Love Yourself: Tear’s first-week sum is a bit bigger than expected. On May 21, some industry forecasters predicted the album would bow with over 100,000 units. By May 24, that forecast grew to over 120,000.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of June 2, 2018)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Jason Aldean with REARVIEW TOWN (Macon/Broken Bow Records) held at No.1 (15-13 Billboard 200) to top the chart for a fifth week.

Contributing songwriters include Jim Beavers and Chris Stapleton (“Hold On”) and Dallas Davidson, Brett James and Keith Urban (“Falling (Remix)”).

FALLING SHORT of Top 50:
On the Country Album Sales list (pure sales; old methodology)

Jason Boland And The Stragglers with 11-track HARD TIMES ARE RELATIVE (Proud Souls | Thirty Tigers | Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at #14.

Kelly Willis with 10-track album BACK BEING BLUE (Premium | Thirty Tigers Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at No.26 with 1,100 estimated sales.

“Willis steps into the solo spotlight with her seventh full-length project, an enchanting collection of self-penned tunes and impeccably chosen covers. Showcasing the jagged, vulnerable vocals of a honky-tonk angel who's also freely dabbled in rockabilly, power pop, new wave and R&B, it's that last genre that informs the dazzling title tune” lauds Rolling Stone Country. Read HERE.
Review: Fatea-records: The title track is the most fun song of the collection, whilst the others perfectly demonstrate Kelly's prowess as both a songwriter and interpreter of others' songs. She has a gift for making a song her own, whilst retaining the integrity of the original version. Throughout the whole CD, there can be no doubt whatsoever about the quality and range of Willis, vocals.

Various Artists with 36-track compilation OUTLAWS & ARMADILLOS: Country's Roaring '70s (Legacy | Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at No.47

"To this day, so many of the moments we name-check in this song, I know when and where I was. 'First Time' became a favorite on this record [When Was the Last Time] to the point that we named the album after its lyric.
