VIC ALLEN

Following her fan-funded EP BETWEEN THE LINES (Amazon UK | UK iTunes), released February 23rd this year (>> Official music video for "Quit"), Vic Allen recently signed with independent record label GingerDog Records and released her new single Blinded on August 10th.

Since her October 17, 2016 debut THE MISSING PIECE (Amazon UK | UK iTunes), a four track, self-written EP independently released back in 2016, Vic has been played multiple times on local BBC Radio and independent stations, and has performed at a huge variety of venues and events throughout the UK, including Buckle and Boots Festival, FSA Fest, and female fronted writer’s round tour Write Like a Girl.

The 26-year old Norwich born artiste (1991-10-22) appeared on BBC Music Introducing Norfolk with Gary Standley (first broadcast Sat Feb 17, 2018) to talk about her EP and her time in Nashville:

First discovering her love of country music on a trip to America during her teenage years, it is fitting that Blinded was written in Nashville, with local songwriter Ian McConnell. Visiting Nashville has been an important part of Vic’s life over the past
couple of years, and has heavily influenced her music and songwriting, which is often reminiscent of her travels.

Blinded was recorded and produced this year at GingerDog Studios in Suffolk, by producer Kevin Duncan. It marks Vic’s first release with the label, and she will be spending more time in the studio throughout the rest of the year to finish what will be her debut album. The single is a teaser for what is to come.

This number has a sensitive musical accompaniment with a plaintive acoustic guitar, quiet bass and faint piano stirrings and a soft harmony allowing the listener to focus on the song. Musicians: Vic Allen (guitar and vocals), Kevin Duncan (bass, guitar, lap steel and keys), Molly Narayn-Barrow (violin) with Matt Van, Chris Jolly and Abbie Goldberg (backing vocals).

Vic who has a sweet fragile quality to her voice conveys with heartfelt execution a tale of falling head over heels madly in love in a dreamy care-free world with what appeared to be the perfect partner wrapped up in feelings of how love is supposed to be. But alas no, a flame dies, the hurt is raw and looking back in hindsight it all now feels like a blur.

It’s both gentle and personal, perfectly capturing the ache of an unrequited love song, the disappointment, hurt and resignation of lost love. As the female protagonist gazes out into an empty midnight void, in a world of her own, it comes through in the lyrics:

I should have seen you even as I see you lean in for that first kiss
I should have seen you walk out
The moment you walked in
It was so laid out before me
But I guess I was just too short-sighted
With just one look at you
I was blinded, I was blinded

It may find a home with fans of early Taylor Swift or Catherine McGrath

What Others Are Saying About Vic Allen

UK singer-songwriter Vic Allen released her new songs, ‘Blinded’ last week too. A nice mix of early Taylor Swift and Vic’s own distinctive style, it should appeal to a lot of people. -  James Daykin Lyric Magazine

"A stunning country-pop track that is full of outstanding instrumentation" – Adam Falkingham  Art Will Fall

This time round it's attached to a sumptuous tune that invites you in, full of strings and gorgeous flourishes of guitar, and piano. The song builds from its gentle intro and is well constructed, with drum parts gradually joining in and then a second echoing voice in the background before we then get hit with the beautiful strings” – Chris Farlie W21 Music.
