Willie Nelson took home the award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for his album MY WAY (Legacy Recordings | Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com), his 68th studio album, released on Sept. 14, 2018.
Matt Rollings, who co-produced the album accepted the award on behalf of Nelson and a long list of other people who all had a hand in making the album.
Willie has now had 9 Grammy wins with 51 Nominations.
Willie’s 11-track set made a debut at No.36 on the Billboard 200 (Chart dated Sept 22, 2018) selling 13,984 copies. Tagged Pop/ Country it wasn’t classed as “country” by the chart managers. Nelson paid tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, with an album of standards and classics made famous by Sinatra, My Way. The collection features Nelson swinging his way through some of the most beloved classics in the Great American Songbook backed by lush string and horn arrangements and was produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings. Among the gems are Nelson’s take on “Fly Me To The Moon,” “It Was A Very Good Year,” “Young At Heart,” and a duet with Norah Jones on “What Is This Thing Called Love.”

Brandi Carlile won in three consecutive categories (handed out during the Grammys Premiere Ceremony”) with Carlile’s album BY THE WAY, I FORGIVE YOU won Best Americana Album (co-producers Shooter Jennings and Dave Cobb netted their own Grammys), while her song “The Joke” was named Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song (penned by Cobb, Carlile and Phil Hanseroth and Tim Hanseroth).
She now has 3 Grammy wins out of 7 Nominations.
Americana music is the island of the misfit toys. I am such a misfit,” Carlile said upon winning Best American Roots Song for her empowering outsider anthem “The Joke.” The openly gay songwriter went on to recall how she came out when she was 15, a decision that, she said, kept her from being invited to high school dances. “To be embraced by this community,” she said of Americana, “has been the dance of a lifetime. Thank you for being my island.”
