The Black Deer Festival reveal second line-up announcement


Black Deer Festival have made their second lineup announcement and have revealed that The Staves, Kris Kristofferson, The Mavericks, Marcus King, Jerron ‘Blind Boy’ Paxton and Groundhogs will be performing over the three-day festival.

Taking place at Eridge Park in Kent between the 21st and 23rd of June, Black Deer Festival is heading into its second year and the acts will join the likes of Band of Horses, The Dead South and Ryan Bingham.


In addition to the vast number of new names in addition the aforementioned names, The Wandering Hearts, who include Cranbrook singer Francesca "Chess" Whiffin among their now trio line-up, and The Sheepdogs will both be returning to the festival as part of the ‘Deerly Beloveds’ programme, which encourages fans to vote on who to bring back following a set on the festival grounds.


Ferris & Sylvester, who have also been announced to play, are ecstatic to be on the bill and are chomping at the bit to show crowds what they can do.
“We are thrilled to be included in the Black Deer line up this year,” the group said in a statement. “Black Deer champions up and coming folk/blues artists every year and it feels amazing to have been invited to play. We cannot wait to be involved and get our teeth stuck into this year’s festival season!”

Actor Kris Kristofferson, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, will perform at a music festival this summer.

The acting legend starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand. 

The star, who hails from Texas and Nashville, has won three Grammy Awards and released 29 albums since the early 70s, including three with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings as part of the Highwaymen. Kristofferson, who starred alongside Wesley Snipes in the Blade series of films, will be at the Americana and music festival, with the late great Merle Haggard’s band The Strangers.

Festivalgoers will be able to hear singles like Me and Bobby McGee, Help Me Make It Through the Night and Sunday Morning Coming Down.
Sister trio The Staves, who are heavily inspired by US bands like Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Fleetwood Mac, have been touring with First Aid Kit, will be including Black Deer in their plans.

Florida-based The Mavericks, who combine neo-traditional country music, latin, and rockabilly, join the line-up alongside American singer songwriter Neko Case; Marcus King; punk singer songwriter Justin Townes Earle and Brant Bjork.

British blues rock band Groundhogs - best known for their 70s single Cherry Red - also join acclaimed new blood alt-country duo Ferris & Sylvester, California's experimental rockers Yawning Man, country preacher Paul Cauthen, boat and bluesman Sonic Gypsy and Hertfordshire’s rock band Redwood.
