(29 Oct 2023) HANGIN’ UP HIS BOOTS: After nearly 38 years of broadcasting Keith Greentree presented his last BIG COUNTRY SHOW (Show Page) on Oct 29, 2023 – LISTEN HERE.

Every Sunday afternoon between 2 and 4PM (BBC Radio Suffolk, BBC Radio Norfolk & BBC Radio Cambridgeshire)  Keith played a great selection of Country music from local artists, the UK, the USA and from around the world. Plus, he had a bit of interactive fun with the listeners via quizzes Country Connection and the Country Clip. Keith would also take Sunday Suggestions to be played on forthcoming shows and the show included gig guide, local club scene, shout-outs and dedications.

Keith, originally from Hampshire, sat in and then replaced Steve Cherelle on Sunday afternoons in 2017 and also on Saturday mornings on BBC Radio Norfolk took over from the late Roy Waller “one of the best-loved voices” on the Rodeo Norfolk 3-hour show. Thordis Fridriksson the then Garden Party presenter would join Keith for the comprehensive gig guide.
Being born within the sound of the sea and having a musician as a father, it was no wonder that Keith started his working life going to sea with a short wave radio lashed to his ear.
His love affair with radio first came from listening to programs like Round the Horn and The

Navy Lark.
In his mid-twenties Keith left the sea to become a musician and retail shop manager. When not on the shop floor he could be found in the storeroom making demo commercials for the company. Married to Margaret (for now 57-years) they moved to Norfolk to start their own business, with Keith playing the drums for various country bands (two of the best known in the area were Wichita and Spiral) in the evenings and weekends playing along the south coast in Holiday Camps and at weddings and parties... that was in 1970!
With the family business being run by two of his sons, Keith was able to devote more time to his lifelong passion - radio. First making coffee and looking after guests on the Late Show, to then having his own half-hour programme 3 years later.
In 1995 Keith left the BBC to be the afternoon jock for a commercial radio station on the coast. Having got that out of his system, he returned to Radio Norfolk two years later where he began a can now be found now producing or presenting radio.
When BBC Radio Norfolk opened in 1980 Keith was keen to become involved, and in 1983 was offered a programme called Weekend going out at 6pm on a Friday playing music and listing local events.
Keith also compered several live shows for The Shires in Norfolk and became close friends with them.
Out with the OLD and in with the New? One of my favorite shows on The Big Country Show were the year-end reviews and the great country music debates
