Where: The Metropolitan Pub (upstairs), Westbourne Park
Address: 60 Great Western Road, W11 1AB London, United Kingdom

The second monthly Nashville Style Writers Round called The Round Up. The event is going to be upstairs at The Metropolitan pub, right by Westbourne Park Station, London on the 2nd of March.
Doors will be at 7:30pm and music will start 8:00pm. Just like The Blue Bird Cafe and The Listening Room Cafe in Nashville, we will encourage everyone to be quiet throughout the performances as we will endeavour to bring you some brilliant songwriters from all over the world and we want you to hear what they have to say.

What is a Writers Round:
The strict definition of a Writers Round or "In the round" is a group of songwriters in a circle taking turns singing their songs. One writer sings a song and then the next sings a song and so on. They just go around the circle playing in turn. More often the writers are actually lined up on stage in a row or "In the row". Sometimes others in the circle will add some instrumental flavour and or harmony vocals. Writers round has become the universal accepted term for either scenario.

About Laura Oakes
Laura Oakes is a British Country Music Artist who hails from Liverpool.

Coming from a huge Liverpudlian family, where everyone sings or play an instrument, it was only a matter of time before Laura caught the music bug. She jokes that her family find communicating by singing in three-part harmony just as natural as talking!

Laura started thinking about taking music a little more seriously in her teens. She learned how to play the guitar, started to write songs and after discovering Carrie Underwood and the Dixie Chicks at age 14, it was Country Music that had her heart.

Laura graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2012 with a first degree in Popular Music.

After graduating, she began recording her first single 'Don't Let It Hit Ya', which was released in September 2013 and landed in the Top 20 on the iTunes Country Chart. Her second single 'Snakes & Ladders' (shown on Sky/ Freesat on Keep It Country TV) followed in 2014 with similar success.
'There is nothing like performing live,' shared Laura, who has played shows supporting fellow country artists The Shires, Ward Thomas and Raintown. She played the C2C Country To Country Festival in 2015, released a self-titled EP (UK iTunes; June 2015) and received nominations in the Song Of The Year category for Snakes & Ladders and Female Vocalist of the Year from The British Country Music Awards and UKCountryRadio.com.
Laura’s EP Launch took place on June 25, 2015 at The Electric Carousel, London compered by Radio2Country/ BBC London’s Baylen Leonard. Review .....Overall this night was fantastic. It really brought home how incredible some of our home-grown country acts really are and it looks like we really are well on our way to building our own Nashville this side of the pond.

She has lent her voice singing harmony vocals on numerous Brit Country albums, produced by Justin Johnson and recorded at Parr Street Studios.

Laura Oakes is the reigning BCMAwards (British Country Music Awards) Female Vocalist of the Year winning in 2015 & 2016
Last year Laura won over stiff competition Claire McArthur-Bain (Raintown), Katy Hurt, Jessica Clemmons (Jess & The Bandits) and Crissie Rhodes (The Shires)
She shared: Thank you to everybody who voted for the British Country Music Awards last night! Was absolutely not expecting to be Female Vocalist of the Year for the 2nd running!! So grateful to you all!! Thank You BCMAwards x #britishcountry

Little Big Town make history with sold out “Little Big Town At The Mother Church” Ryman Residency shows.

Grammy Award-winning vocal group Little Big Town launched their unprecedented year-long artist residency, “Little Big Town at the Mother Church,” from Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium this weekend with back-to-back, sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday evening.

The reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year earned numerous standing ovations as they showcased their award-winning vocals during each nightly performance of their new album, The Breaker. The launch of “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” coincides with the world-wide release of Little Big Town’s seventh studio album, released February 24th, and marks the only time in the venue’s 125-year history to host a year-long artist residency.
Band members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook’s took to the Ryman stage following support acts Brent Cobb (2/24) and Ashley Monroe (2/25) to debut their first, and only, live full-length album performances of The Breaker.

After opening the show with the album’s “optimistic standout” (Sounds Like Nashville) “Happy People,” the band went on to perform every track on their new album from top to bottom– including their current chart-topping #1 song at country radio, “Better Man”–before later trading off lead vocals for several songs including “Beat Up Bible,” “When Someone Stops Loving You,” and the album’s title track, “The Breaker.”

The packed set list had the audience on their feet, singing along to every word of the band’s biggest hits, from “Pontoon” to “Girl Crush,” the thirteen week #1 Grammy-winning crossover hit that recently propelled Pain Killer to RIAA-Platinum-status, earning the group their third RIAA-Platinum album certification as a band.

Each evening’s special surprise guest appearances–an expected staple of future “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” dates—solicited enormous audience applause as breakout Country artists Sam Hunt and Chris Stapleton (2/24) and powerhouse vocalist Andra Day (2/25) joined Little Big Town on stage. At the close of each show, in contrast, the band earned a different reaction—complete reverence in the form of uninterrupted silence- as the band launched into an unexpected, completely acoustic encore, sans mics, aimed at paying homage to early Ryman Auditorium performances.

Saturday’s show also included an additional on-stage surprise, with the band’s announcement from the Ryman stage that a 10th “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” Ryman Residency date has been added for July 30th due to popular demand. Previously announced dates include May 19&20, July 28&29, September 15&16, and November 27th. Pre-sale tickets for the newly-announced date are available now through March 2nd at 10pm CT by visiting here: Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for the concerts will be $90.50, $60.50 and $50.50. Each ticket purchased to see Little Big Town at the Ryman includes one (1) physical album of Little Big Town’s new album, The Breaker, released February 24, 2017 on Capital Nashville. Visit www.littlebigtown.com/tour for more information.

Little Big Town continue to earn early critical praise for The Breaker, having “expanded their audience beyond Tennessee” (USA Today) as well as “the definition of country music from the inside” (Newsday). The Los Angeles Times recently declared The Breaker “excellent” before highlighting Little Big Town as one of “only three acts that performed more than once at this year’s Grammy Awards. Reviewed as “a 21st century revival of Fleetwood Mac” (Goldderby), critics have identified The Breaker as a sweet spot, with Paste noting the album as “the band’s wheelhouse…they sound great” and Entertainment Weekly sharing high praise for the band’s latest studio project, giving the album an “A-” rating and noting “Little Big Town soar with new album…LBT’s glistening harmonies beam.”  Following the launch of “Little Big Town at the Mother Church,” the Associated Press also raved “Little Big Town momentum grows with Ryman residency.”

Little Big Town can next be seen performing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on March 1st, and on The Talk on March 14th.

Atlantic Records unveil ‘The Shack’ Soundtrack featuring some of country’s biggest stars

Atlantic Records have released “THE SHACK: MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE,” the companion album to the film from Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label.

The Shack hits theatres in the US on Friday, March 3rd and slated to air in the UK in cinemas June 9, 2017.

Featuring previously unreleased music from a wide range of contemporary stars, “THE SHACK: MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE” has already begun garnering critical acclaim.
Rolling Stone Country called “Keep Your Eyes On Me,” Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s addition to the album, an “ethereal love ballad [that] showcases the duo exchanging lines, culminating with a soaring chorus and dramatic orchestral flourishes.” That song, co-penned by McGraw and Hill along with Lori McKenna and Shane McAnally, marks the couple’s first songwriting collaboration and is featured in a trailer for the film.

The Shack (Movie Review)  (By Steve Cullum)

People magazine called “Love Goes On,” a collaboration from multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter Kelly Clarkson & GRAMMY®-nominated soul artist Aloe Blacc, “close to divine,” and VIBE said of GRAMMY®-winner Lecrae’s “River of Jordan (feat. Breyan Isaac),” “With the help of collaborator Breyan Isaac, the emcee perfectly captures [The Shack’s main character] Mack’s struggles in song form.”
People Country called chart-topping country duo Dan + Shay’sWhen I Pray For You,” a “tear-jerker.”  Dan + Shay will perform the song on Wednesday, March 1 on “Today,” and the song will impact country radio in early March. A video for the track is available here: https://atlanti.cr/wheniprayvideo, and the song is predominantly featured in trailers, TV, and radio spots for the film.

Published on Feb 3, 2017: Dan + Shay - When I Pray For You (Official Music Video; 950K views):

In addition to the above, the album also features offerings from CMA and ACM-winning solo country artist Dierks Bentley; multi-platinum country artist Lady Antebellum; 2x GRAMMY® Award-winners for KING & COUNTRY; 6x chart-topping country artist Brett Eldredge; GRAMMY®-nominated rock band NEEDTOBREATHE (Feat. Lauren Daigle); and RIAA platinum worship band Hillsong UNITED.

“It was such a crazy experience being involved with this whole project,” said Joel Houston of Hillsong UNITED. “The book has had phenomenal success around the world, and the production level and actors in the movie is pretty exciting! We had the opportunity to watch a screening of it, and it is inspiring that such a high end movie would be made. It was an honour to write a song for the soundtrack, something we have actually had little experience in. We hope, as with everything we do, that people take away a portion of the greater message about Jesus!”
A video piece showcasing the album artists discussing the stories behind their songs and their thoughts on The Shack will premiere in the upcoming weeks.

“THE SHACK:

MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE” was produced by Atlantic Records President of Film & TV and GRAMMY® Award–winning, 5x nominated soundtrack producer Kevin Weaver (Suicide Squad, Furious 7, Boardwalk Empire, The Fault In Our Stars, Girls Volumes 1 & 2, True Blood Volumes 1 & 2);  Atlantic Records Executive Vice President/Head of A&R, Pete Ganbarg (twenty one pilots, Hamilton); and award-winning and 5x nominated music supervisor and soundtrack producer Anastasia Brown (August Rush, Taken, Footloose).

The album was executive produced by Gil Netter (The Blind Side, Life of Pi).
“THE SHACK,” based on The New York Times best-selling novel, will be released in US theatres nationwide on Friday, March 3rd from Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment Label and stars Sam Worthington and Academy-Award winner Octavia Spencer with Grammy Award winner Tim McGraw.

MACKENZIE “MACK” ALLEN PHILLIPS (Sam Worthington) enjoys a blissful life with his wife and their three children, until the unthinkable happens and his youngest daughter MISSY is abducted from their vacation campsite. Evidence indicates Missy has been murdered, but her body is never recovered.  The tragedy sends Mack spiralling into “the great sadness” that isolates him from family and friends, causing him to question his innermost fundamental beliefs.  Teetering on the edge of self-destruction, he receives a mysterious letter, apparently from God, urging him back to the scene of the crime—an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness.
Despite his doubts and fears, Mack journeys to the wintry mountain woods to revisit the most agonizing moments of his life and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named PAPA (Octavia Spencer), at the shack. Through them, Mack will find important truths that will transform his understanding of Missy’s tragedy and change his life forever.
