Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of August 3, 2019)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Ed Sheeran's 'No. 6' Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart, Beyonce & Nas Bow in Top 10
After debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart (BB200) a week ago, Ed Sheeran’s star-studded No. 6 Collaborations Project ruled the list for a second week, making it the first album to spend its first two weeks at No. 1 in four months. The last title to do so was Juice WRLD’s Death Race for Love, which opened at No. 1 on the March 23-dated list, and held on for its second, and so-far final, frame on March 30.
No. 6 earned 78,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 25 in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. That’s down 55% compared to its debut of 173,000 units.
Of No. 6’s second-week total units, 16,000 were in album sales (down 77%), which keeps the set at No. 1 for a second week on the Top Album Sales chart. The remainder of No. 6’s second-week unit total was comprised of 5,000 TEA units (down 52%) and 57,000 SEA units (down 39%). The latter sum equates to 74.7 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s tunes during the tracking week — which makes it the most-streamed album of the week for the second week in a row.

Beyonce Nets Third Top 10 Album of 2019 As 'The Lion King: The Gift' Debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 Chart
BeyoncĂ©, who voices the character Nala in Disney’s new The Lion King film, saw her King-inspired album The Lion King: The Gift debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The set starts with 54,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. (with 11,000 of that sum in album sales) in the week ending July 25, according to Nielsen Music.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of August 3, 2019)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Ranked at #1 on Country Album Sales and at #34 (up five places) on all-genre Top Album Sales Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) remained at No.1 (#12 non-mover Billboard 200) to top the summit for a 43rd non-consecutive week in 111 chart frames.

It reigned with 23,000 equivalent album units earned (up 1%) in the week ending July 25. Of that sum, 3,000 were in album sales.

The set ties Randy Travis’ Always & Forever, which ruled for 43 weeks beginning in June 1987 as the second-longest-leading album since the list launched in 1964. Among male artists, Travis and Combs are tied for first.
Just one title has spent more time at No. 1: Shania Twain’s Come on Over, which dominated for 50 weeks beginning in November 1997.
Meanwhile, Combs’ latest release, THE PREQUEL (River House/Columbia Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville), moved 4-3 (39 non-mover BB200; 13,000 units, down 3%; 7 chart frames) after the fivetrack EP debuted atop the list dated June 22.

Dan + Shay with their self-titled album (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) held at No.2 (#30-27 BB200) in their 57th frame.
Morgan Wallen with IF I KNOW ME (Big Loud Digital EX) moved 5-4 (#42-40 BB200) in his 60th frame.
Chris Stapleton with the 220-week TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) climbed 6-5 (#47-46 BB200).

Former No.1 Thomas Rhett with CENTER POINT ROAD (Valory Music/ Big Machine Records) rose 7-6 (#52-55 BB200) in his eighth week.
Former 6-week non-consecutive week No.1 Jason Aldean with REARVIEW TOWN (Macon/Broken Bow Records) moved 8-7 (#65-61 BB200) in his 67th week.

Former No.1 Kane Brown with sophomore album, entitled EXPERIMENT fell 3-8 (#38-62 BB200) as his self-titled album dropped 11-12 (#84-87 BB200; 138 chart frames).

Former No.1 Maren Morris with GIRL (Columbia Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville [SMN]) held at No.9 (#71-72 BB200) in her 20th frame.

Florida Georgia Line with CAN’T SAY I AIN’T COUNTRY (Big Machine Label Group) held at No.10 (#82-84 BB200) in their 23rd week.

Outside the Top 10
Former No.1 Kacey Musgraves with GOLDEN HOUR (MCA Nashville) held at No.13 (#99-97 BB200) in her 64th week.

Lee Brice with his self-titled set (Curb) slipped 18-20 (#156-174 BB200) in his 23rd frame.
Former No.1 Carrie Underwood with CRY PRETTY fell 17-21 (#149-185 BB200) in her 45th week.

Billboard Country Airplay (Chart issue week of August 3, 2019)

MAREN MORRIS' HISTORY-MAKING "GIRL" REACHES #1 FIRST SOLO #1 BY A WOMAN ON THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY AIRPLAY CHART SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2018
Maren Morris banked her third No.1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “Girl” (Columbia Nashville) ascended 4-1 in its 28th week on the Aug. 3-dated list. It increases by 13% to 37.4 million audience impressions in the tracking week ending July 28, according to Nielsen Music.
“Girl” marked the first time that a solo female artist has topped the chart in well over a year. The last time was on the list dated Feb. 24, 2018, when Kelsea Ballerini’s “Legends” led for one week, becoming her fourth Country Airplay No. 1.
“I am so proud that ‘Girl’ is my third Billboard No. 1,” said Morris. “The title of the song alone feels like poetic justice breaking this year-anda-half streak of a woman not having a No. 1 on [Country Airplay], so let’s be hopeful we never see that dry spell again.”
It’s also the first time in 2019 that a woman has ruled the radio airplay-fueled chart in any fashion, including groups, duos or as a featured artist. The most recent was Jason Aldean’s “Drowns the Whiskey,” which features Miranda Lambert. The collaboration topped Country Airplay for two frames starting Aug. 25, 2018.

For the 29-year-old Morris — who hails from Arlington, Texas — “Girl” is her second No.1 as a solo artist. Her first visit to the summit was on the Feb. 22, 2017, chart when she was featured on Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You,” which led for one week. “I Could Use a Love Song” marked Morris’ second No. 1 and her first as a solo act when it ruled the Jan. 20, 2018, chart for one week.
Morris’ additional Country Airplay top 10s include her debut single, “My Church,” which peaked at No. 9 on May 21, 2016, and “Rich,” which reached No. 4 on Nov. 17.
“Girl,” which Morris wrote with Greg Kurstin and Sarah Aarons, is the title song from the album of the same name. The set, her second full-length studio album, debuted in the penthouse of the Top Country Albums tally dated March 23 with 46,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week (with 25,000 of that sum in album sales).
The next single from Girl will be “The Bones,” which ranks at No. 26 on the hybrid Hot Country Songs survey, powered by airplay, streaming and sales. Meanwhile, “Girl” bumps 9-8 for a new peak.

Upon its release earlier this year, "GIRL" had the highest debut on Billboard's Country Streaming Songs chart by a female artist and the highest weekly streams by a female country artist ever.
The song is the title track from the multi-Platinum artist's second album, which shattered the record for the largest-ever debut streaming week for a country album by a woman with 23.96 million streams in its first week. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and continues to receive rave reviews. GIRL is out now via Columbia Nashville.
Morris is currently in the midst of a sold-out world tour, including appearances at Newport Folk Festival with The Highwomen-her all-star collaboration with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires-and with Dolly Parton and The Highwomen as part of a history-making all women Saturday night headline set, during which Parton congratulated Morris on the #1 from stage. GIRL: The World Tour continues this summer, and Morris will support Miranda Lambert on her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars tour this fall. Visit marenmorris.com for full tour details.
This year Morris received five Grammy nominations including Record of the Year and Pop Duo/Group performance for her massively acclaimed hit "The Middle" with Zedd and Grey, Country Solo Performance, Country Duo/Group Performance and Country Song of the Year. In May, alongside Zedd and Gray she was awarded with a Billboard Music Award for Dance/Electronic Song.

Rhonda Vincent was born in Greentop, Missouri, where she grew up performing in her family band, The Sally Mountain Show, featuring country and bluegrass music.

After releasing a handful of her own successful bluegrass albums on Rebel Records as the 1990's began, she was signed to a country recording contract with Giant Records. Songs such as "I'm Not Over You," "An Old Memory (Found It's Way Back Home Again)," "I Do My Cryin' At Night," and "At The Corner Of Walk and Don't Walk" endeared her to fans of traditional country music, even if the mainstream audience was not ready for her unashamedly country sound. After developing a loyal following within both musical styles, she chose to return to her bluegrass roots in 2000, and hasn’t looked back. Her powerful voice and unrelenting work ethic have made her the undisputed "Queen of Bluegrass" (a title bestowed upon her by The Wall Street Journal), earning her a closet full of bluegrass music awards, and a GRAMMY Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2017. Her first-class presentation both on and off stage has allowed Vincent to be one of the only bluegrass artists of the 21st century whose albums consistently reach the Billboard Country Top 40, finding a home among both camps of fans. She is also one of Nashville’s most in-demand harmony singers, heard on recordings alongside names such as Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, and Daryle Singletary.
