Eminem Earns
Ninth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With 'Kamikaze'
Eminem
earned his ninth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as his surprise
release Kamikaze made a debut at No.1. The set, which was released without
warning on Aug. 31 via Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records, earned 434,000
equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 6, according to Nielsen Music.
Of that sum, 252,000 were in traditional album sales.
Kamikaze’s
start of 434,000 units blows past the launch of Eminem’s last album, Revival,
which entered at No. 1 with 267,000 units (197,000 in album sales) on the chart
dated Jan. 3, 2018.
Of
the 434,000 units, traditional album sales comprised 252,000, while TEA units
equaled 14,000 and SEA units totaled 168,000.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)

1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.

The
37-track compilation Various - King
Of The Road: A Tribute To Roger Miller (BMG | Amazon UK - UK iTunes
- Amazon.com)
made a debut at No.12 on Country Album
Sales selling 2,300 copies
Released on Aug. 31 via BMG, it pays long
overdue respects to one of American music’s premier entertainers and
songwriters. The two-disc collection contains new renditions of Miller’s songs
by Ringo Starr, Dolly Parton, Eric Church, Loretta Lynn, John Goodman and more
than two dozen others, including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Merle
Haggard on one track. Produced by Miller’s son, Dean Miller, and Colby Barnum
Wright, ‘King of the Road’ offers a fresh look at the work of a creative giant
who has been gone 26 years but whose genius continues to shape contemporary
music in ways both overt and subtle.
‘King of the Road’ includes versions of
Miller’s biggest ’60s hits, like “Chug-A-Lug” (Asleep at the Wheel ft. Huey
Lewis) and “England Swings” (Lyle Lovett), and lesser-known treasures from a
catalog full of gems. As with Miller’s own output, the album contains plenty of
unexpected turns — country superstar Eric Church’s playful take on Robin Hood’s
“Oo De Lally,” for instance, or Starr’s selection of “Hey, Would You Hold It
Down?,” a song from Miller’s long-out-of-print 1979 ‘Making a Name for Myself’
album.
Sister Sadie with the 12-track Sister Sadie II
(Pinecastle Records | Amazon

Luke
Bryan became the ninth artist to have tallied at least 20
No.1s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (out of nearly a thousand of
artists who have appeared on the survey since its inception in January 1990) as
“Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset”
(Capitol Nashville) ascended 2-1 on the survey dated Sept. 15. The track
reigned with a 6 percent gain to 44.3 million audience impressions in
the tracking week ending Sept. 9, according to Nielsen Music.
“I promise you there has never been, and will never be, a time when getting
a song to the top of the charts gets old,” Bryan told Billboard. “I’m grateful
for each one. ‘Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset’ is a perfect, reflective song about
young summer love. I knew it was special the first time I heard it, and it’s so
fun watching the fans react to it on tour.”
Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill wrote “Sunrise,” which Jeff
Stevens and Jody Stevens produced.
Kenny Chesney leads with 30 Country Airplay No.1s, followed by Tim McGraw
(29), Alan Jackson and George Strait (26 each), Blake Shelton (25), Keith Urban
(21), and Brooks & Dunn and Toby Keith (20 each).
“Sunrise” also is Bryan’s 13th Country Airplay leader in a row,
extending the longest active streak among all artists (as a lead act and
counting singles promoted to country radio and excluding holiday fare).
Since “Drink a Beer” led for two weeks beginning Feb. 15, 2014, none of
Bryan’s lead singles have missed the pinnacle. (During that run, Florida
Georgia Line’s “This Is How We Roll,” featuring Bryan, peaked at No. 2 in May
2014.) Thomas Rhett owns the second-longest active No. 1s streak, with five.
“Sunrise” is the third single, and third Country Airplay No. 1, from
Bryan’s album WHAT MAKES YOU COUNTRY, following “Light It Up,” which topped the Dec. 23, 2017-dated chart, and
second single “Most People Are Good,”
which led for three weeks beginning March 31. Bryan is the sixth artist with a
pair of No.1s in 2018 (during which 25 songs have topped the chart), joining
Aldean, Chesney, Florida Georgia Line, Rhett and Brett Young.
Chris
Young collected his 14th Country Airplay top 10 as “Hangin’ On” (RCA Nashville) rose 11-9. The song climbed
with an 11 percent increased to 23.6 million in audience.
Young is seeking his fifth consecutive Country Airplay No. 1 (excluding a
charted holiday track), following “Losing Sleep” (Feb. 10); “Sober Saturday
Night,” featuring Vince Gill (March 18, 2017); “Think of You,” with Cassadee
Pope (May 14, 2016); and “I’m Comin’ Over” (three weeks beginning Nov. 28,
2015).
All 13 of Young’s prior Country Airplay top 10s reached the top five,
with nine hitting No. 1. He first ranked in the top tier with “Gettin’ You
Home,” which led the Oct. 24, 2009-dated list.
