Motorboatin’ Through the 2012 CMAs:
** Times shown in UK GMT (Nashville time - 5 hours GMT) **

The 46th Annual Country Music Association Awards contained the usual blend of all-star concert event following on from the glitzy red carpet glam.
Hosted yet again by the now “Ma and Pa of the CMAs” Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, the Nashville-based country music kudosfest was crammed pack with 21 live performances and 8 Award presentations from start to finish on the 3 hour show.

1) 00:00 Performance - Kicking of the CMA proceedings was Jason Aldean, in bad-country boy fashion he launched into "The Only Way I Know," dedicating the 2012 CMA Awards to New York, New Jersey and "all our friends on the East Coast" affected by the massive storm that battered the East coast this week. A Country superstar jam followed as Aldean was promptly joined onstage by current heartthrobs Luke Bryan and Eric Church (2012 CMA five time nominee)  Watch the video >>  YouTube

CMA Skits
Co-hosts Brad and Carrie drew plenty of laughs with their comedy bits, including a song that turned Maroon 5′s “Moves Like Jagger” into “Moves Like Haggard,” poking fun at all the hell that country artists raise, including Randy Travis’ recent escapades. They also poked gentle fun at Taylor Swift’s brief romance with Conor Kennedy, but since the camera didn’t cut to Taylor, we were left to wonder if the newly million+ album “RED” debut seller was amused?
Paisley joked that the biggest shuffle was the Kennedy family trading Arnold Schwarzenegger for Taylor Swift. "What?! Why don't I ever hear about these things? I'm the last one to know!" protested a mock-mortified Paisley after Underwood informed him that Miss Swift and Conor Kennedy had in fact broken up.
Cue "We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together."

Brad and Carrie go "Gangnam Style"

Brad and Carrie then went "Gangnam Style," but Psy's was nowhere to be found!
It appears there have been some doping charges," Underwood jokes about stripping Willie Nelson of past awards.  The pregnancy of Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles pregnancy was also a target for various jokes, including an announcement by Brad putting on gloves that they were going to induce labor right there, with “Dr.” Little Jimmy Dickens overseeing everything. Little Big Town sat out front seemed stunned by Paisley's graphic description in the ear of a naïve-sweet-and-innocent Underwood regarding the true meaning of the catchphrase "motor boating." Ummm Yes there was a reason why they followed it up with a mention of Dolly Parton. When will #motorboating start to trend?
On a serious note Carrie and Brad made several references during the show sending their love out to to the hurricane’s victims and requesting donations - "Country music has always lifted people up in tough times," Underwood says about the storms that have hit the east coast.

(Billboard) Miranda Defends Blake's Surprise Win - Miranda Lambert was excited about husband Blake Shelton's entertainer of the year win, naturally. Lambert said she had done some "research" on what the entertainer of the year should represent. "It not only meant touring numbers or ticket sales or how much production you had, but the way that you represented country music within the year, the media you do, the work that you do and the TV shows you're on and how much you speak out about country music. When you think of it that way, Blake Shelton deserved to win that trophy tonight. He's on a national television show two nights a week representing us as a genre and I'm so proud of him."

Eric: Country Is Cool Now - Eric Church said backstage he thinks country is cool now with the younger demographic. "When I first started touring, it was not cool to wear a country music artist's t-shirt on a college campus. There was still that stigma that country was outside of cool, and whatever has happened over the last six or seven years, that's all I see now… Frankly I think country music has always been the coolest."
