REVIEW: Where Smith really soars though is when he writes on his own. Those songs have tended to be among his best and that’s the case on this EP. ‘Faith From a Farmer’, which sits right in the middle of the track list, is the highlight here. It hits all the right notes by telling a real story about small town life, the kind of which the Country music genre has long been known for. Touching upon family and working, and the power of faith, it’s a song that sounds like a classic we’ve known for years while at the same time remaining fresh. It’s the best song Smith has released to date.....‘The Storyteller’ EP is further proof that Smith is an artist worth keeping an eye on. He’s making real Country music and his song-writing is superior to a lot of what’s out there in the genre right now. Taking Country music back to relatable stories, Smith is setting out the foundations for a long and successful career, and it’s not long before he elevates to one of the leading stars of the modern Country music scene. 4 STARS Pip Ellwood-Hughes read more at EF Country

THE STORYTELLER
Already hailed for a mix of Country craftsmanship and youthful mass appeal, Conner Smith turns the creative page on THE STORYTELLER. A five song contemplation on questions of ultimate substance, the reflective roots standout was conceived in flash – four tracks co-written in sequence, plus a solo-penned revelation – casting everyday life as a breathing work of art. Produced by Dwight Baker with the raw, real-world recording philosophy of physical instruments and live takes, Smith fills his voice with thoughtful passion and coming-of-age clarity. Along the way, purpose and presence reveal themselves as elements of a tale worth telling.

“I think for better or worse, my natural state as a songwriter is thinking deeply on big picture themes and the captivating power of stories,” shares Conner. “It’s amazing to think about how stories can really move people and I’ve always been fascinated with how to do that through music, ever since I was a little kid writing songs. The Storyteller feels like a rare creative moment that I wanted to capture by telling stories in a cool way.” He adds, “I had the title of ‘The Storyteller’ in my phone for a long time and didn’t really know what that meant yet in terms of a song, I just knew that the heart of my music is the stories. It got me thinking that we’re all storytellers, every person is in their own story inside of the bigger story.”

“FAITH FROM A FARMER”
Written solo over the course of about a year, “Faith From A Farmer” serves as the creative anchor of Smith’s new chapter – and offers grounding to anyone in search of inner peace. A heartfelt ballad focused on letting go and letting God, a tender-but-resolute vocal joins an understated mix of piano, fiddle and guitar, as the singer reflects on survival in a cutthroat, achievement-driven world – both by putting in the work, and trusting the rest to take care of itself.
“This felt like such a special idea for a song that I kind of held it sacred for a long time to get it just right,” recalls Conner. “‘Faith From A Farmer’ has a deep meaning for me because it seems like in life we’re always struggling to find a balance between working as hard as you can while also realizing that there’s a lot of things outside of your control. As I thought about my struggles of balance through the years, it made me think about the farmers who work from sunup to sundown every day tilling the land and planting the seeds but they can’t succeed unless the Lord brings the rain. I love how people have already connected with this song when I play it on the road. It’s always a cool moment when you can capture an emotion through song, and I’m proud of how we achieved that with this one.”

ABOUT CONNER SMITH

Representing a new generation of hitmaker, Conner Smith is an emerging Country artist building on breakout success, who’s growing catalog reflects an instinctual mix of craftsmanship and mass appeal.

A Nashville native carrying on Country’s proud singer/songwriter tradition, the GOLD-selling entertainer wields a sturdy, salt-of-the-earth vocal and first found success capturing youthful energy, but now begins a new chapter of growth.

Parlaying a teenaged publishing deal into his 2022 debut DIDN’T GO TOO FAR (released January 14, 2022), Smith’s Top 40 arrival “Learn From It” (#38 US Billboard Country Airplay), viral smash “I Hate Alabama” (23 million Spotify streams),and GOLD-certified hit “Take It Slow” (71,585,509 Spotify streams) earned the rising star a legion of followers and “artist to watch” accolades from Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, Opry NextStage, Music Row and CMT, who dubbed the promising talent “an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.”

After hitting the road with Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell, Chase Rice and Parker McCollum, Smith followed up with a jam-packed 2024 which kicked off with his full-length album SMOKY MOUNTAINS (Release date: January 26, 2024 | #42 US Top Country Albums), pairing sharp hooks and timeless Country sonics with a sincere nod to his love for Appalachia. Featuring the GOLD-certified, multi-week international chart-topper “Creek Will Rise” (#22 Hot Country Songs | #12 Billboard Country Airplay) and “masterclass in storytelling” (All Country News) “Meanwhile In Carolina,” Smith continued his year with earning his first ACM Awards nomination, plus releasing the all-acoustic SMOKY MOUNTAINS SESSIONS and fast-paced “Steal My Thunder” (feat. Tucker Wetmore) featured in the summer blockbuster Twisters: The Movie and on the film’s star-studded soundtrack, with more new music still to come. His upcoming project THE STORYTELLER, out now, finds Smith turning a creative page and reaching what he considers his “natural” artistic state.

A five-song contemplation and reflective-roots standout, filled with thoughtful passion and coming-of-age clarity, the project arrives on the heels of Smith’s headlining THE STORYTELLER TOUR, kicking off October 8 in Great Falls, Montana. Smith also recently reunited with tourmate Luke Bryan to directly support his Farm Tour.
