Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the heels of the release of his second single “Make Me Want To,” now in its fourth week at Country radio, and a first-time nomination this week for New Male Artist of the Year at the upcoming ACM Awards, country music breakout Jimmie Allen and fellow country newcomer Abby Anderson have released their own cover of the hit song “Shallow.” The GRAMMY and Golden Globe winning smash performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated film “A Star is Born” is up for “Best Original Song” at the 91stAcademy Awards ceremony airing this Sunday, February 24.

The accompanying video shows a split screen of Allen and Anderson going about their daily lives before uniting in the studio to deliver the passionately soulful chorus together in perfect harmony. Watch the

I fell in love with a movie, then I fell in love with a song from that movie. Now, I get to share my vision of how that song and movie creativity inspired me!

“‘A Star is Born’ was one of my favorites from last year, and the performance of this song in the film really moved me as an artist,” shares Allen. “I had chills! Getting to cover ‘Shallow’ with my good friend Abby was such a cool experience. She’s an incredible vocalist, and I’m excited for fans to hear our take on the song.”

Release Date: 22 Feb. 2019

Label: Stoney Creek Records

Total Length: 4:21

“I think I speak for everyone when I say that I bawled like a baby during ‘A Star Is Born.’ The song ‘Shallow’ immediately stood out to me,” says Anderson. “When Jimmie called and asked if I would sing on this song with him, I was honored. I mean I’m no Lady Gaga, but working on this with Jimmie, who pours his whole heart into a song vocally, was an absolute joy.”

Allen burst onto the country music scene with his breakout three-week No. 1 debut single, “Best Shot,” described by Rolling Stone as a “rare honest love song, with a catchy, melodic chorus that flirts with pop-rock power balladry,” and enabled the Delaware native to etch his name in history as the first black artist to launch their career with a No.1 at Country radio.

The pop-infused follow up single, “Make Me Want To,” is the second from Allen’s Stoney Creek Records / BBR Music Group debut album Mercury Lane, which The New York Times asserts is one of 2018’s strongest and describes it as “a conventional country album, filled with songs about the small details.” Allen is currently supporting Kane Brown on his Live Forever Tour where he continues to break new ground for African-American country artists. He will also be hitting the road this summer as support on Chris Young’s Raised on Country Tour and Rascal Flatts’ Summer Playlist Tour.

Nashville, TN – Black River Entertainment songwriter/artist Abby Anderson’s debut single “Make Him Wait” is digitally available now.
The single was sent to radio on May 10, 2018 with an impact date set for June 4, 2018.

Currently on her national Country radio promo tour, Anderson is set to open for Russell Dickerson on select dates before a jampacked CMA Music Festival week of performances and appearances.

Written by Anderson along with GRAMMY-nominated hit songwriter Tom Douglas and hit songwriter/producer Josh Kerr who also produced the single, the empowering message in “Make Him Wait” serves as a reminder to trust your worth.

In a recent Instagram post, Anderson expressed her hope for “Make Him Wait” saying, “I’m sharing a little bit of my heart and the truth that I was brought up knowing. And honestly, I hope that this song serves as a reminder of how precious you are, how cherished you should be, and above all, to trust your worth with someone worth your trust.” View the full Instagram post here.

Last month, Anderson gave fans a sneak peek into the single with the release of an acoustic performance video of “Make Him Wait,” which can be viewed here:

The plaintive piano intro and soft guitar hooks you in from the get-go on this classy tender and beautiful mid-tempo ballad.
The lovely soft production allows the focus to remain very much on the song as it should do with country music.

On this debut country single the message advocates a lady to not rush headlong into a relationship but advices her to be patient and value her self-respect. The empowering and aptly titled “Make Him Wait” witnesses Abby drawing on a phrase from her father for direction when dealing with starry-eyed relationships.

Discovering the right pathway for love the lyric suggests to the lady, despite the ‘small talk’, the guy must patiently bide his time before he takes her out on that first date. Those midnight blue eyes and the shiny Pontiac in the driveway may dazzle her but the encouragement is to hold back.

With its sweet and honest words that ‘real man’ must prove his trust in making his sweetheart feel deeply cherished. There will be many days and months, even years just holding hands during the courtship before that special, precious, and unforgettable first kiss takes them both to a heavenly place. Yes, that priceless kind of love is “worth the weight in gold”.
As time passes the scene is set with husband-to-be waiting for his bride as she takes her time walking down the aisle with a teary-eyed Dad beside her as a happy and proud mother looks on. That life-long advice now completely makes sense.

When you find the one, the staying kind, then he won't mind
And you look into his eyes and realize
It was worth the while to make him wait

With her tender soulful vocal Abby perfectly brings out the necessary intimate emotion with a winning vocal performance. The production is restrained and beautiful and this compelling song is delicious. What a debut, we love it, we patiently await to hear more from the Dallas songstress!

"Make Him Wait" Lyrics:

When he calls you, you don't have to answer right away
Make him wait
And when he small talks before he asks you on a date
Make him wait
When his Pontiac's in the driveway and his eyes are midnight blue
Take a deep breath, do the opposite of what you wanna do

Chorus:

Make him wait by the phone
At the door to meet your dad
Before that first kiss he's gotta hold your hand
You can't get it back when you give yourself away
Yeah, a boy's gonna run but a real man's gonna stay
Girl make him wait
Make him wait

And when he says that it'd be easier if you just stayed the night
Make him wait
You're gonna wanna and you're thinkin' you just might
But make him wait

Chorus

They told me love is worth the weight in gold
Like that ring on your hand so
When you find the one, the staying kind, then he won't mind

If you make him wait in his tux
Cello sings you down the aisle
Walk slow, take your time, while your daddy cries and your mama smiles
When they're throwin' rice into the air and those tin cans roll away
And you look into his eyes and realize
It was worth the while to make him wait

ABOUT Abby Anderson
The Dallas, Texas, native was recently named one of CMT’s Next Women of Country for 2018, a CMT Listen Up Artist – #18for2018, one of Pandora’s “2018 Country Artists to Watch” as well as The Boot’s “2018 Artists to Watch.”

Prior to making her solo move to Nashville at 17 years old, Anderson worked hard to finish school early and get a head start on her dream of a career in music. Upon arriving in Music City, she began paying her dues by playing gigs in local favorites, including The Bluebird Café, The Listening Room Café, and the Tin Roof, among others, while working as a nanny.
Her hard work and perseverance paid off a few years later as Anderson was surprised by Black River Entertainment with a publishing and record deal during a charity event at the Ryman Auditorium in 2017.

Anderson, born and raised in Dallas, Texas was the second oldest of seven kids, six girls, and one boy.  Growing up around music, she sang, played piano, and nurtured her creative side from an early point in life. After receiving some attention from playing piano one day, Anderson knew in her bones that she wanted to perform in front of an audience.
Confidently, when she was just fifteen years old, she walked into her dad’s office and told him that she wanted to be home-schooled the rest of high school and move to Nashville.  Being the supportive parent, she needed, he told her to graduate a year early and move there when she was seventeen and that is exactly what she did.
Right upon her arrival into town she got to hustling, making connections, and networking. “That is what’s so beautiful about Nashville, it’s so easy to meet not just people, but kind people who genuinely want to help you out,” she says of Music City.

Focusing on songwriting and getting into rooms with the right people, Anderson was signed to Black River Entertainment, after her friends pitched her songs to their A&R team.  Label head, Gordon Kerr sat her down and said he wanted to sign her, following the conversation, Anderson signed her record deal on the stage at the famed Ryman Auditorium.  “I am the luckiest girl to be over there, they are my family and my team and they are brilliant,” she exclaimed.
Her debut single, “Make Him Wait” was written with Josh Kerr and Tom Douglas. Kerr is a songwriter on Kelsea Ballerini’s smash hits “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Dibs” and Tom Douglas is a songwriter on Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” as well as songs for Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lee Ann Womack and many more country artists
