ACM Nominated Trio Runaway June Release Stunning Cover of "Mary, Did You Know?"

The first female trio to crack the Top 5 on the U.S. Mediabase Country Chart since The Chicks, Runaway June brings their signature three-part harmonies to a modern Christmas classic!

The “Buy My Own Drinks” trio Runaway June got into the holiday spirit with a two-song release: their cover of “Mary, Did You Know?” and a spirited original, “Santa, Send Your Reindeer.” 

“Mary, Did You Know?” was penned by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene while touring with Christian artist Michael English, who in 1991 became the first artist to cut the song. Runaway June’s own musical conversation with the mother of God slow-builds from quiet and mystical to impassioned and inspirational.

The two-pack release also features the newly written holiday song for 2024, “Santa, Send Your Reindeer." The original is a fun tune that was inspired by something not so fun – getting stranded at the airport when you’re trying to make it home for the holidays. That’s why Runaway June wants Santa to send Rudolph and team asap!

“Santa, Send Your Reindeer” was written by two of the three members of Runaway June – Jennifer Wayne and Natalie Stovall – along with label-mate Annie Bosko. The third member of Runaway June is lead singer Stevie Woodward, and the band’s Holiday A- and B-sides were produced by six-time GRAMMY winner Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera).

“Mr. Kringle bring your jingle! Our rendition of ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ and original ‘Santa, Send Your Reindeer’ are both out now,” the group shared in an announcement post on Instagram.

On November 29, 2024 they released their latest single, ‘He Ain’t My Problem' a fiery and fun breakup anthem.

Produced by two-time GRAMMY winner Kristian Bush (Sugarland, Megan Moroney), the high-energy track was co-written by band members Jennifer Wayne, Natalie Stovall, and Stevie Woodward during what started as a casual venting session.

“The three of us were sitting in a hotel room one night, and we were having a venting session, as ladies do,” recalled Stevie. “Jen said, ‘He ain’t my problem no more,’ and we’re, like, ‘Oh, snap! We’ve gotta write that one.’ So we ordered some parmesan fries and some wine and we wrote this tune. It’s a little too much of a true story.”

“I thought I’d have a family that always stuck together, but sometimes stuff just happens,” shared Jennifer. “We hope you can’t relate, but if you’re going through a divorce or a breakup or anything like that, this song is for you.”

“‘He Ain’t My Problem’ was not only so much fun to write, it’s also one of the most fun songs that we get to play in our set,” said Natalie. “It feels like everybody in the audience gets it and they’re in it with us, every single time we play the song. So, when we went into the studio to record it, it was really important to us to keep that feeling of playing live and having fun.”

Defiant guitars and driving percussion musically mirror the forward motion of movin’ on, while the lyrics of “He Ain’t My Problem” create an authentic and empowering alchemy of hurt, healing, and humor (Hey at least I ain’t gotta fake it tonight).

Titled “Blue Roses” the project will be released appropriately in the month of June, on June 28th 2019. Produced by Dann Huff and Ross Copperman, the album reaches from the Top 40 anthemic sing along,” Buy My Own Drinks,” which Music Row Magazine praises as a “runaway hit,” to the soaring post-breakup heart-grabbing “I Am Too,” to the poignant and stirring title track “Blue Roses.”

“June has always had a special meaning to our band,” stated Jennifer Wayne, of Runaway June. “The name Runaway June is symbolic of the many pivotal moments in our lives and career that happen in the month of June. It’s only fitting that our first album comes out in June!”

Since Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne formed four years ago, Runaway June has become the first all-female trio in more than a decade to earn three Top 40 hits and become an ACM and CMT nominated band, been named CMT’s “Next Women of Country,” scored major tours and opening slots with some of the biggest names and icons in music (including Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood), performed on national TV including the CMA Awards, ACM Awards, CMT Awards and TODAY, and received high praise and raves from dozens of critical outlets, all while constantly digging deeper to fill out a sound that connects them to the tradition of Country music and its devoted fans.

“We've been together for four years now, but this is our debut album,” said Mulholland. “We really harmonized as a band through songwriting and being out on the road, so I feel like, through that journey we were able to learn more about ourselves as people – as women, as performers, as artists – and figure out what we wanted to say, all of that is reflected in these songs.”

Songs like “Good, Bad & Ugly” that dive into the acceptance of being in a relationship, juxtaposed with songs like “Trouble with This Town” and “I Am Too,” that address the universal post-relationship struggles that make up the human experience, round out this first full-length outing from the trio and further cements why they are “a band that’s well on its way to Country music superstardom” (People.com) and the ascending trio “is about to blow up...” (Whiskey Riff).

“The album has many different faces, and it really represents all the sides of who we are. Our songs are deeply Country,” added Cooke. “We aimed to make a compelling record that displays our character, personality and where our heart is. That’s why ‘Blue Roses’ is the title track. It's a deeply personal song we wrote several years ago, but have kept for something special”

The title track “Blue Roses” is an emotional song that highlights the depth of the album. It was co-written by Wayne and Cooke along with Caroline Cutbirth and Marcus Hummon in the wake of Cooke’s loss of a family member. It took some time before the band was able to embrace the emotions of the song fully to perform it live, but once they did, it came to symbolise the openness of music, which they feel compelled to share with their fans. The album’s first hit “Buy My Own Drinks,” co-written by all three Runaway June members along with Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear, continues to climb the charts currently.

Runaway June is on the road through the fall, supporting seven-time Grammy winner and Pollstar’s three-time top female country touring artist Carrie Underwood on the Cry Pretty Tour 360. Sponsored by CALIA, the tour kicked off on May 1st in Greensboro, NC, and will play 55 arenas across the U.S. and Canada promoted by AEG Presents.

The trio, nominated for their “Buy My Own Drinks” video (watch here) performed on the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (5th June).

Additionally, they will made several appearances across CMA Fest including the Chevy Riverfront Stage, the CMA Close Up Stage in Fan Fair X and Firestone Country Roads Stage at Ascend Amphitheater on Thursday, on Saturday they performed on the Radio Disney Stage and at Nissan Stadium.

“Buy My Own Drinks” officially impacted Country radio Monday (Aug 20). Creating an intoxicating buzz, the song exploded onto airwaves as the second most added song of the week.
