This
special edition celebrates her earliest songs, remade 10+ years on as the
producer she is today
UK
Songwriter and producer Katie Nicholas returns with her long-awaited
“Chemistry” EP.
Released
on 11th July, this 4-track collection of country-pop bops and ballads are
songs the artist herself has reworked and produced, celebrating the music that
kickstarted her career.
Written
between ages 16,17,18 and 19, these are her earliest and most cherished tracks
by fans.
In
a bid to not leave them behind as she charges forward with her prolific
catalogue of music, Katie vows that this is “the record my younger self
would have dreamt of making”.
Likened
to a UK’s very own Kacey Musgraves or Dolly Parton, this Liverpool witty
songbird arrived on the British Country Music scene with a bang over a decade
ago before a long period of radio-silence. In 2025 she revisits her title-track
“Chemistry” alongside an entourage of award-winning AMA instrumentalists.
Originally, the song had become a viral hit overnight after producing a DIY
valentines music video and posting it on YouTube in 2013.

Celebrating
the history which led this prolific songwriter to premiere at the C2C London
pop-up, support The Shires and Ward Thomas at Bush Hall, “Chemistry” also
landed her a no.1 and no.3 in the UK/IRE Country Hotdisc chart…

Katie creates is meticulously crafted” HOTVOX
The
artist’s music was later taken down from digital stores under the guidance of a
“mentor” in a bid to “start fresh” and develop as an artist. With a tumultuous
journey with labels and the music industry - her story can be found on her
prolific 50-song video-series “Songwriter Diaries” on YouTube - after her long
silence, Katie has returned and reclaimed this music: this time self-produced
and released via her independent record label, “Ladybird Records” - little but
bold.
Despite
all bumps in the road, Katie has gone on to showcase and record in Nashville as
part of Whispering Bob Harris’s ‘Under The Apple Tree’ event, starred on the
SSL Audio advert, and has performed at festivals such as Buckle & Boots
and BBC Introducing Highest Point.
Despite
little musical release online, Katie has gone on to consistently sell out live
shows supported by a wonderful and loyal community of fans - most recently
selling out her headline show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room.
“Katie’s
visual skills meant the creation of her unique music videos alongside her
country cross-picking and quick-witted lyricism quickly began to turn heads.”

And
it kills me when you call
Cause it gets me every time (gets me every time)
Well you told me that you can't commit
That love feels like a crime
And it kills me
So forgive my naivety
And I'll forgive you for leading me
Down places where we shouldn't be
And I curse the day we met
Liverpool
songbird Katie Nicholas returns all guns sparklin’ alongside
UK Americana rising star Robert Vincent to kickstart a new era
of self-produced country-pop bops, celebrating her earliest viral tracks which
kickstarted her early career in British Country Music.
“You Kill Me” (writers: Alistair Edward Ingle, Katie
Nicholas) is the Americana anthem for the cynic’s true romantic heart. Enough
to “make your stomach churn”, Nicholas and Vincent’s harmonies entwine within a
starry mix of multi-award winning AMA-UK instrumentalists
including Anna Corcoran, Isabella Baker, Mark Lewis, CJ Hillman, Sean
Rogan, Joe Coombs + more.
With Robert heading out on tour with Robert Plant in 2025, and
Katie’s completion of the prolific 50-song Songwriter Diaries series,
these two artists, both championed by BBC Radio 2’s Whispering Bob
Harris, have rocked up giddy to Deliver their tragic love-ballad - all with a
smirk upon their face.
Katie,
in her own words, shares with fans: “There’s been so many stops and starts
throughout my journey that I’m feeling determined lately to release all of my
music so you can stick it on while you potter around or just whenever you need
a pick-me-up (or sob!) - sometimes I cannot believe most of my music is still
inaccessible and unreleased… this is why I’m so desperate to get it all out so
you can stream with ease”.
Regarding
“You Kill Me” and what’s ahead, I am
very proud and happy with this work, and it’s the first time I’m sat fully in
the producer’s seat. With the end of Songwriter Diaries on the horizon (yes, episode 49 is
already out - how crazy?), I wanted to celebrate a handful of my earliest
songs, all written between ages 16 and 20. This one made the cut cause I could
never put it down. It’s
now 10 years old and only now seeing the light of day, and was my first and
last co-write, written with scouse/London buddy, Ali Ingle. Fast forward to
2024 and my dear friend Robert Vincent joins me, along with a team of
incredible musicians, to resuscitate and bring the track back to life.

week of ups, downs:
In a rare incite for fans into the stresses and strains involved in releasing
and distributing music by an artist, Katie posted a series of Facebook posts: HERE| HERE | HERE
The
sound has now been joined for a while by the most delightful fiddle sound that
has made this single even more traditional….The
last chorus sees both Robert and Katie pull out the most beautiful of vocals
that are diametrically opposed to the harsh realities that they are singing
about.
