Matt Oakley Confirms Opposites Attract in New Single, "Fire & Water"

NASHVILLE, TN  –  Matt Oakley confirms the ‘opposites attract’ theory in his brand new single “Fire & Water.” Delving into the delicate equilibrium of polarizing personalities in a relationship, Matt Oakley touches on the complexities of love while masterfully coupling these contradictions into a poignant, relatable release. These two seemingly incompatible forces come together to create something unexpectedly beautiful, as the song depicts a tug-of-war between passion and calm, forgiveness and sin, “Fire & Water.”

Listen to "Fire & Water" HERE: (preferred music platform)

“In a world where most heartbreak songs focus on differences pulling people apart, I wanted to write one about how our differences balance each other out,” explains Matt Oakley, who cowrote the song with David Ray Stevens and Brandon Hartt.  “We used fire and water as the metaphor: when I get hot-headed and my flames burn brighter, she is there to calm me down, just like you would use water to put out a fire.”

"Fire & Water" brings listeners a slow-burning country ballad that explores love’s complex power to heal and transform. With its raw, poetic lyrics and classic country instrumentation, the song tells the story of a tumultuous but ultimately redemptive relationship. With lyrics like, “she’s an angel in hell, I’m the devil in Heaven,” Oakley illustrates the tension between two opposing forces that somehow find unity despite the odds. Throughout the song, themes of redemption and transformation are present, as Oakley reflects on a love that takes him from a place of brokenness to one of peace and understanding.

“This song is easily my favorite I’ve written. It paints a picture of what happens when two people are committed to making each other better, even if, on the surface, it shouldn’t work.”

“Fire & Water” is available now on all streaming platforms, and will be part of Matt Oakley’s upcoming debut album.

Taylor Rae releases new single from upcoming album 'The Void'

Taylor Rae Follows Hit Debut With New Album The Void, Out April 18th
Heavy-Hitting New Single “Maybe I’m The Villain” Out Now

NASHVILLE, TN. – (23rd Jan, 2025) – Austin based singer/songwriter Taylor Rae has announced her new album THE VOID, (Pre-Order/Pre-Save), which is set for release on April 18th. The anticipated follow-up to her acclaimed 2021 12-track debut MAD TWENTIES (tagged Americana), The Void is an immersive and wildly eclectic album that both confirms Rae's status as an Americana A-lister as well as reaches far beyond the genre's borders.

Rae has also unveiled today the first peak at the new album with the heavy-hitting alt-tinged juggernaut “Maybe I’m The Villain” (tagged country), a self-reflective track that strives to view things through the opposite lens. Holler featured the track and raved, "With its lush, sweeping harmonies, sugary '90s pop gloss and crunching backbeat, the swampy country funk of 'Maybe I'm the Villain' is a bold statement of intent that sounds like All Saints recording with The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section."

Listen To “Maybe I’m The Villain” HERE:

"The concept for this song came while I was quarreling with someone, and for the life of me, I just could not see their side,” said Rae. “Then it dawned on me that when we have opposing thoughts with others, it is likely they view us as the villain of the story. From there, I was then inspired to tie it into the very light topic of Intergenerational Trauma. This story became about my family history. Over the course of my twenties I spent so much time in therapy uncovering patterns and learning how to break generational cycles, but it has proved to be a nearly impossible task. There are times when I genuinely scare myself after reflecting on my own past behaviors and decisions, because they remind me of exactly what I’ve been trying to avoid doing and/or being for so long. This is a deeply self-reflective song that explores the result of having been hurt by the people around you, and how if you’re not careful, you just regurgitate it onto others, and even yourself. Every song on The Void portrays a different thing I’ve had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable with."

Hailed by No Depression as "a singer fully in command of her vocal gifts and a songwriter who enfolds her lyric sensibility in haunting musical sketches," Rae has spent years touring behind her career-launching debut, driving herself from show to show, watching America unfold outside the car windshield.

While crisscrossing the country and playing over 200 gigs a year, including supporting artists such as Sierra Hull, Pokey LaFarge, The Head and the Heart, John Craigie, Band of Heathens, and The Brothers Comatose, she watched Mad Twenties become a national hit. The record wound up spending more than 30 weeks on the Americana Radio charts. No other independently-released album enjoyed a longer stay on the Americana charts.

Now with her sophomore release, Rae takes her eyes off the road and turns her attention inward. Filled with the most personal songs of her career, The Void is a sharply-written record that celebrates the contradictory and complementary parts of the human experience, exploring life's dark corners — from breakups to intergenerational trauma — with a colorful mix of roadhouse roots-rock, modern-day folk, alternative music, blues, and analog Americana. Anchored by a songwriting style that explores the uncharted spaces between genres, she took inspiration from the roots of American music while also maintaining a modern edge.

Produced by Grammy-winner Eric Krasno (Soulive, Lettuce, Tedeschi Trucks Band) and recorded out of his studio in Pasadena, The Void features songs that are vulnerable, self-examinations rooted in loss and heartbreak, while others are celebrations of new love. Together, they explore the contrasts that have filled Rae’s life of late: darkness and light, chaos and balance, closed doors and new beginnings. Some songs were built around live-in-the-studio performances that showcased her strength as a stage performer. Others were recorded layer by layer. The result is a stunning blend of cinematic slow-burners, self-empowerment anthems, raw stripped-down field recordings, bluegrass-inspired barn-burners, and even the occasional reggae rhythm.

"The main theme is introspection," Rae continues. "The past four years have been such a trying time with constant change. Sometimes it felt like I was staring into the void, and I decided to document the moment by writing these songs."

As the sound fades into the ether, we're reminded that the road goes on forever, shuttling us from the past toward whatever future lies ahead. The Void is the soundtrack to that unending journey, whipped into existence by a singer/songwriter who's dedicated to the long haul.

Nashville-based Americana artist Rooster Blackspur drops Nashville (The Cinderella Sessions)

ABOUT Rooster Blackspur
Rooster Blackspur, an award-winning singer-songwriter known for her raw, evocative voice and powerful storytelling, has never been one to follow the conventional path.
Having made a name for herself in New Mexico, Rooster has now embraced a bold new chapter in Nashville, Tennessee, with her new album The Cinderella Sessions.
This 7-song collection captures the essence of her musical evolution while introducing a fresh, Nashville-inspired sound.

Recorded at the legendary Cinderella Sound Studio, The Cinderella Sessions marks Rooster's first full-length project in Music City - a place she believes offers her the best chance at fully expressing her songs.

Reflecting on the album’s title, Rooster says, “This record is a moment in time and that moment was captured at one of Nashville's oldest working recording studios called Cinderella Sound Studio.

I wanted to pay tribute to my time inside those iconic walls, as well as acknowledge my first time ever making a record in Nashville." The album’s title, The Cinderella Sessions, feels fitting not only as a nod to the historic studio but also as a symbol of her transformative journey from the expansive, rugged terrain of New Mexico to the heart of Nashville’s vibrant music scene.

This transition didn’t happen by chance. According to Rooster, "Looking back it was fate. Someone came up to me and said 'I think you need to go to Nashville,' and the long and short of it is they paid for my studio time, and all I had to do was make my way to Nashville. Everyone says 'I have a friend with a studio' but this person happened to be friends with the owners of Cinderella Sound Studio. It was a life-changing experience.” Rooster’s arrival in Nashville set the stage for what would become a monumental step in her musical career.

When it comes to the songwriting process, Rooster embraces authenticity and raw emotion, and her lyrics consistently reflect this commitment to living from the heart. As she explains, “My songwriting has always reflected what it feels like to be a person who lives from the heart. These songs belong together for many reasons as they speak to beginnings and to endings. If the listener will let it, this album will speak to the journey of life, and how our heart is our one true companion when everything and everyone else has fallen away.”
Rooster’s collaboration with Nashville’s finest musicians was integral to the album’s sound. The record features an exceptional group of musicians, including Charlie McCoy, a Country Music Hall of Fame member and Nashville legend on harmonica, bass, and vibraphone, Bill Cooley, a renowned guitar virtuoso who has toured with legends like Reba McEntire and Merle Haggard, and Steve Hinson, whose pedal steel work has graced recordings from George Jones to Dolly Parton.

But perhaps the most significant contribution came from Sammy Mann, Rooster’s longtime drummer. "Sammy Mann has been my drummer for almost two years, and the two of us together create the core sound of Rooster Blackspur," Rooster says. "To call Sammy a drummer doesn't feel like enough of a description as he is an amalgamation of a gamut of unconventional musical influences, a lifelong dedication to his craft, and an intuitive sense that weaves as much as it leads the other band members around the emotion of the music. You can hear some of his craft on this album, and you will see he is not just 'keeping time,’ but keeping the spirit of the song expressed."

The Cinderella Sessions is more than just a collection of songs, it's a statement of who Rooster Blackspur is as an artist and a person. “New Mexico will always have a piece of my heart, it shaped me in ways I could have never imagined,” she says. “But it’s time to find band members who want to
support this music and see it reach higher, and it’s time to have a chapter of life in the land of songwriters."
With her new album, Rooster invites listeners to join her on this next leg of the journey, and she hopes the record will resonate with anyone who has ever made a leap into the unknown: "I hope this record can be an introduction to who I am as a songwriter and performer as I head off to Nashville. I also hope it resounds in the lives of my fans and people following my music."
In The Cinderella Sessions, Rooster Blackspur shares not just her music, but adeeply personal chapter in her life: a record that captures the heart of a woman unafraid to take risks and follow her heart, wherever it may lead.

Blackspur has taken a chance on heading away from New Mexico and hitting the tough streets of Nashville, but she’s brought in some top-notch players (Charlie McCoy, Steve Hinson) to add to her trusted sidekick Sammy Mann to bring these recordings to fruition – the release is very much an introduction to her songs and style and as such, it does and excellent job – worth checking out if Lucinda Williams and the like are your cup of tea. - The Rocking Magpie (Positive Review)

It's very simple production but I love it so much and I hope people like it,” shares Evan.

Honer had a breakout year in 2024, starting strong with his single "Nowhere Fast" and a powerful duet, "Take Me As I Am," with Wyatt Flores. He continued to impress with the release of his sophomore album, Fighting For, in June, which showcased his vulnerable songwriting and soothing vocals. The album was so well-received that he later collaborated with Charles Wesley Godwin to reimagine "Mr. Meyers," a standout track from the album.

As 2024 drew to a close, Honer released his latest EP, Annabelle, which features a mix of new songs and previously released singles such as “Me, Without You,” “Lead Role,” and “High School Reunion.” The EP's narrative, centered around the titular character Annabelle, culminates with "Happy In The End," a song that encapsulates a whirlwind of emotions about past relationships.

Chicagoan Michal Leah has accumulated millions of streams on her previous releases– while rapidly closing in on a million monthly listeners.
Her most recent single “Worth Waiting For” (writers Elsa Curran, Michal Leah, Yakob) dropped on December 11, 2024. She shared: “I don’t have the words to describe the love I have for this song and how special it is to me. I hope that it can be special to you too”.

She dropped the gentle and stunningly beautiful written “If The Sun Never Rose” on Oct 4, 2024 which she co-wrote with Andrew Tufano.
Regarding her 2 track 2022 and debut EP single  “Used To It,” Leah added: “I think it’s so important to realize that sometimes healing takes time and just because you feel healed from a heartbreak, doesn’t mean you are over that person. There is no step-by-step guidebook to getting over a breakup”. Website uptohearmusic wrote: “Once you hear these vocals, it will completely restore your faith in the newer generation of artists. Leah has such fantastic command and control over her voice that if you told us “Used To It” was being sung by the likes of Brandi Carlile or Adele, we would have no reason to doubt you”.

Nobody knows what’s coming tomorrow
Every breath we’re breathing is borrowed
Make the most of every moment
Cause someday, these days will be Golden

This latest release follows the Latin country artist’s recent collaboration with Jimencio for the Tejano and country music infused “Yo Quiero Todo.” Co-penned by Jimencio and Angie K, it is the first collaboration between the Nashville artists, with the duo lauding an unconditional love that withstands all circumstances. American Songwriter was on hand for the emotional evening sharing, “Her voice rang strong and clear through the Grand Ole Opry House, compelling fans to raise their phones on the last song and fill the darkened theater with light—a moving display of acceptance and adoration for a woman who has dreamed of standing in the hallowed circle since before her feet touched North American soil.”

ABOUT TYLER BRADEN:
Tyler Braden has the gritty powerhouse vocal, the expressive pen and the ability to deliver a lyric with complete conviction worthy of a headliner. Braden began crafting his sound as a teenager in Slapout, AL, where he demonstrated his mettle playing four-hour cover sets.

He continued to perform between shifts as a firefighter in both Montgomery and Nashville; a set at the homegrown Whiskey Jam concert series in January 2017 paved his path to today.

His Warner Music Nashville EP, NEON GRAVE, combines deep-rooted country tradition with the rollicking, high-energy instincts of a born rock ‘n’ roller. The project’s flagship single, “Try Losing One,” hit No. 1 on SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown.
Braden is currently making waves with the viral track “Devil You Know” – a won’t-back-down anthem that attracted 10+ million views across social media in just two weeks. In April 2024 “Devil You Know” hit the Country radio airwaves, and as of September 2024, “Devil You Know” is a bona fide hit with a whopping 180+ million streams and over 50k+ ‘creates’ on TikTok.

With 385+ million global streams to his name, Braden is now taking stages world-round. After a dynamic first leg of his headline The Real Friends Tour, with five sold-out shows, the Alabama native will round out the year with the tour's second leg before supporting Warren Zeiders in the new year.
