Helena Mace’s latest single ‘Runaround’ snags an iTunes top 10: Review & Interview

Bournemouth girl done good
#ukcountryradioawards #girllgoingsomewhere

Bournemouth based singer-songwriter Helena Mace has had another packed and eventful year with more exciting times to come.
Singing in the Bournemouth area for the past 12 years as always she plays frequent multi-genre (Instagram photo), cover songs and country shows in her locality and other shows across the South of England.
She was hand-picked by the top DJs of 24/7 Internet station UKCountryRadio.com (“playing The Hottest Music In The UK”) and played on their debut stage at this summer's Welshpool Country And Western Festival in June. She has also played the Quayside Music Festival in Weymouth and the Wimborne Folk Festival.

On March 15,  2019 she released her single “Save It for Another Day” which reached No.3 on the UK Country iTunes Album Chart (#256 UK iTunes all-genres peak) and stayed in the Top 200 for 2 days.

Singer-songwriter Helena Mace to release new single “Save It For Another Day”

The Boscombe Manor artiste was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour, after believing she had an ear infection, and feared she could lose her hearing in one of her ears and the local paper ran an article on the story. Two MRI scans in December last year determined she had acoustic neuroma which goes from the brain to the inner ear. “It’s so rare, only one in 100,000 people get diagnosed with them”, Helena said.
With the release of the Save it For Another Day she hoped it may inspire someone else who may have similar symptoms to go to the doctors by raising awareness of the condition.

HACKED OFF: In June much to her horror she found that her Facebook pages had been stolen and became victim of having her 2 Facebook accounts (both music profile & personal profile) hacked into and stolen by a person who was illegally selling products in Helena's name. Posing under someone else's account and fraudulently gaining money is an illegal activity.
Helena had built up (with the help of Country Music Social Media) a 4 - 5K Facebook following and she lost a 12-year-old personal Facebook history.
Despite numerous of Helena's fans reporting the theft Facebook did nothing apart from shutting down Helena's access to Facebook. The story made the main news on ITV Meridian and the issue was finally resolved.
July 5 Update: Richard Slee ITV news Bournemouth, interview was also aired on the ITV Meridian: Musician devastated by scam on Facebook

Helena was the most nominated artist for the 2019 UK Country Music Awards (which was presented by UKCountryRadio.com) in 4 categories: Album of the Year (CHASING DREAMS, released March 2018, received rave reviews), Female Artist of the year and Country Artist of the Year plus the Gary Perkins Angel award for her services to music and her hard work even whilst dealing with a benign brain tumour. She was invited to perform at the awards held at the Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport on Saturday 14th September.

UKCountryRadio.com’s 12th Birthday Party & UK Country Music Awards 2019 Review

On Oct 12, 2019 Helena excitedly announced she would be performing in HMV Bournemouth as part of National Album Day platform. Her CHASING DREAMS album is now on sale in the store sitting on the shelves beside the big names in country music.

Her music has featured a large amount on UK country radio shows across several countries and now UKCountryRadio.com are supporting her with website exposure and backing her new single Runaround was was produced in Bournemouth by Nineyards Music and written by Helena and the Nineyards team (Adrian Withers and Philip Snowden).
The track was part of a pre-order 8th November with a full general release 15th November 2019. This track is part of the new album which will have collaborations from Matt Black at Hangover Hill Studios and Nineyards Music.
Helena will be launching a new album in Spring 2020 as well as performing songs from her current album and will be appearing at events across the country to promote her music and hopes to perform in the US over the next 2 years!

“Runaround” SINGLE REVIEW

Release Date: 15 Nov 2019
Label: Nineyards music
Time: 3:52

Debut & iTunes Chart Run: #15 UK Country iTunes Singles Chart (selling 18% of the No1 single by Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber), then #12, then #10 * peak *, then #16, then #19, then #23, then #25 | Sat Nov 16: #32, then #59

This jangly Americana-tinged mid temp single with its lightly rattling 60s Bryds-like guitars depicts a fatal attraction and the frustations of a good gal meets bad boy relationship. Those exasperations, excuses and lies are blown away by one loving kiss sending the female protagonists’ head & heart into a wild spin.

She first regrets falling hopelessly in love and believing all the stories but its hard to let go of that steamy affair.  With its sweetly aching chorus and sing-along hooks with repeat plays this number has growing appeal.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
Lyrically, the song centers on a lying partner that cast a spell and pulled her into a false pretense of a safe relationship and now continues to give the “runaround” instead of opening up and being truthful. It is a subject matter that will no doubt resonate with fans worldwide. Surely we’ve all been in that place at some point in our lives. Just wanting to know exactly where we stand rather than have somebody play games with your heart. Helena Mace is an incredible songwriter who effortlessly weaves a story throughout her tracks and with ‘Runaround’ she has perfectly brought this story to life and paints an almost cinematic vibe throughout the clever lyrics…..‘Runaround’ is a stunning piece of country crossover music that will delight fans new and old alike. It’s relatable and thought-provoking in equal measure and gives a real insight into the type of wonderful artist Helena Mace is. This has the potential to become a global smash. - Laura Klonowski  Belles & Gals Review

"Has a great new single out and doing extremely well with it" - Jim Duncan 101.8 WCR FM - the station with MORE for Wolverhampton

"A fine start with 'Runaround' a great track from Helena Mace" - Roger Peck CMR Nashville The British Country Music Show
ICYMI: Listen to Roger Peck’s interview conducted at the UK Country Music Awards and first broadcast on CMR Nashville on Nov 15, 2019:

Published Nov 1, 2019 watch the new video for “Runaround”:

LYRICS
Its 6 o clock in the morning and it's a brand new day.
The same old lines youre calling, why you cant come this way.
And every day I'm thinking, what's the point of this
Then you change my mind, with just one single kiss.

Chorus.
You keep on giving me the Runaround.
I'm  going around so fast, my feet dont touch the ground.
I wish that you'd slow down and give me a fighting chance.
Baby why do you keep giving me the Runaround,  the Runaround.

I wish I hadnt fallen in so fast.
I wish I hadn't listened to your lies about your past.
I miss that feeling I had when we first met.
But I know one slam of the door, I'd have so many regrets.

Chorus etc.

INTERVIEW
Always such a lovely artiste to deal with Helena kindly spoke to Country Routes News about her new single ‘Runaround’, her music and future plans

What inspired, what idea sparked the writing process and did it come quickly
I wrote the lyrics to Runaround fairly quickly as it was a very relatable subject for many people I know. I thought that a lot of listeners would be able to relate to the track.

The single has a different production feel to it than your previous singles. Was this a conscious decision?
Where was it recorded and who are the musicians playing on the single?
I am working with another production team on a few tracks on the album so the sound although slightly different , still keeps my style of music going.  I am working with both Nineyards music and Matt Black on the tracks for the album. The producers and musicians are Philip Snowden and Adrian Withers.

Is this an indication of the direction of travel for your next album?
Yes this is an indication of my new album sound, however you can expect to hear good old country tracks , a folk sound and a couple of  ballads on the new album out in spring 2020.

What do you hope listeners / fans can take from 'Runaround' and how they react to it?
I think most of us have been messed around in a relationship in the past so many will know the feeling of that type of up and down relationship.

Who did the cover art graphic for the single?
My husband did the cover art and graphics for the single.

What have you been most proud of during 2019 and what are you hopes for 2020?
I've been proud of having 3 charting singles and numerous award nominations in the past year . It's been a tough journey due to my brain tumour diagnosis so achieving all this is just amazing for me.

What do you consider the biggest challenges for a British Inde country act in the current music business?
I think the music industry is challenging full stop. You have to be thick skinned and determined and just keep doing what you love. It's also a great industry to be in.

Any message for your fans or anything you like to add to share with us?
I'd like to say a big thank you to all those who have played and bought my music and have.come to my gigs.  Theres a new track coming early next year so watch this space.

We first discovered CountryLine when Twinnie started posting about her new series Tea With Twinnie’ (Tea With Twinnie: Lucie Silvas) and then your fabulous interview (which we loved!) with the lovely Katy Hurt (www.countryline.tv/watch ) and the week long exclusive of her crazy sensational video for ‘Revved Up’! (Countryline Video)
Can you explain when CountryLine first started and what inspired or sparked its creation?

Thanks for your kind words! I always love hearing when people are enjoying the content we’re putting out there. CountryLine came about as an idea that myself and Simon Walker, my co-founder, came up with when we realised there was a gap in the market to serve the ever-growing country music fanbase. No one had ever done an app version of a global fan club. I’m a country fan myself and I was tired of having to source out five different websites to read reviews or see who was coming to play so we created the one-stop shop for all country music fans.

For anyone new to CountryLine please complete the sentence, Country Line is……..
…the must-have app for country music fans. All the country you’ll ever need, in your pocket.

When did you first get interested in country music? Was it firstly the American scene or was it the UK resurguence in the genre with festivals like Country To Country taking off?

I grew up a country music fan. My dad was in to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson so I guess I discovered it through the classics. It was always something I was a little embarrassed about – none of my friends were in to country! The first time I plucked up the courage to go to a country music concert by myself I wasn’t sure what to expect and I walked in and the place was packed!! I felt like I’d walked in to a room full of friends, it was great!

There is now a lot of FREE footage on the CountryLine website. The Laura Evans and Friends concert footage (Countryline.tv/watch) was a real treat, thank you! Is this a taster of what to expect when a fan subscribes?

The plan is to always have a lot of free content on the network. The premium content that people can upgrade for includes some fantastic tv shows and country movies. Plus extra behind the scenes footage, gig recordings and exclusive members deals and offers. The aim is to give CountryLine members the best country experience they could ask for!

There is a COUNTRYLINE app available for iPhone or Android phone. If you don’t own a smartphone is ALL the subscription only premium country content also available online?

CountryLine is available on android, iOS, on the web, Amazon Firestick and Apple TV. All free and premium content is available on all platforms.

CountryLine names one of its investors as Sir Elton John. How and why did they get involved?

We were lucky enough to be introduced to Sir Elton John and his team last year when he was releasing his Restoration album. Initially we just wanted to do an interview with him to talk about it and the amazing country artists he had worked with for it. He liked what we were doing with CountryLine, especially our focus on upcoming and homegrown talent, so he ended up investing in the business. We’re very pleased that he shares our vision!

What has been your greatest challenge with CountryLine? Competing with SKY TV’s Keep it Country or Total Country perhaps? What does CountryLine offer that they don’t?

We are not in competition with Keep It Country or Total Country. I think both channels are doing marvellous jobs and personally the more people sharing country music to the world the better! We are something completely different to a tv channel. We offer fans a chance to get closer to their favourite artists. And likewise, we are a platform for artists to reach new fans. We have interviews and music videos, a gig guide, ticketing, competitions and country lifestyle. We go beyond the music.

The last 2-years has seen a huge shift in way music is consumed. Streaming music now accounts for 75% of U.S. Label revenues with just 11% from Digital downloads and 12% from CDs and vinyl records. We have experienced zero sales of music from our Blog with people now longer feeling they wish to physically own music anyone. This must be a real struggle for Independent acts.
As a result, do you or will you do anything differently, for example highlighting an artist’s tour dates rather than new music they may have?

CountryLine is a level playing field. We interview the top Nashville-based artists who sell out stadiums and have world tours. And we also feature upcoming talent who are trying to put their music out there independently and gig locally. Fans still want to hear about new music so we’ll always talk about upcoming albums and new releases but we do encourage people to download if they really like a song or an album!

What drives you?

A passion for what I do and belief that we are creating something that the fans and artists clearly love.

What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you are proud of?

I’m super proud of what we’re doing at CountryLine but there’s so much more to come. It’s an exciting journey.

C2C and CMA Fest take some beating! I saw Kris Kristofferson at the Union Chapel which was pretty special as it’s so intimate. And then there was Bruce Springsteen at Wembley…

Quantum Leap. Most people won’t know it. Trust me, it’s a classic.

Zac Brown Band. Desert island? It seems appropriate!

If you could have dinner with a male and dinner with a female, who would they be?

Grateful thanks to Nathalie!

Her 12-track debut album LOVE LETTERS was released Nov 14, 2000 on Warner Bros. Records (Cat: 47744 2). It produced four singles, none of which charted. Satcher wrote or co-wrote eleven of its twelve tracks.
Billboard magazine said with the album, "intelligent lyrics meet powerhouse vocals and passionate performance" calling the combination "lethal". Allmusic wrote "Satcher brings to life her own heartbreak (the man she had hoped to marry marries someone else) in ten of the 11 mostly gloomy tracks she wrote or co-wrote....Everybody likes a good cry every now and then, but, unfortunately, Satcher kinda just makes you feel sorry for her. Still, Love Letters is worth at least a listen".

Leslie has been working on a NEW RECORD!!
"2 DAYS IN MUSCLE SHOALS" is coming soon! Not only did Leslie write/co-write all the songs on the album, she even painted an original art piece to be the album cover (Instagram). She calls it; "2 Days In Muscle Shoals"... duh....
On Facebook she posted: I am VERY excited that my new album is done! CD's are about to go into production in the next few days.

Leslie Satcher is a fifth generation Texan. The daughter of a strong hearted single mother and granddaughter of cotton sharecroppers and pioneers, she is no stranger to hard work and perseverance.
Born in 1962 where the Chisolm Trail and the Red River cross, Leslie grew up singing in the churches and schools of Paris, Texas alongside her baby sister Jeannie Winn.
In 1989, during a short trip to Nashville, a friend prompted Leslie to record her voice over the tracks of country standards at The Barbara Mandrell Museum. That was all it took! Just four weeks later she was crossing her beloved Red River in a $1,000 Chevrolet dragging a U-Haul trailer with an ironing board strapped to the back. If her story sounds like the beginning of a country song, it was. After several "day jobs" in "Music City", Leslie's talent as a songwriter was recognized by a friend from church, Guy Penrod of the Gaither Vocal Band, who encouraged her to show her work to friends Larry Strickland and Naomi Judd. It was Naomi who helped her hone her skills into a more commercial form and then introduced her to guitarist Don Potter who was starting a new publishing company.

After a Sunday night show at the world famous Bluebird Café, Leslie teamed with accomplished father and son songwriters Max D. and Max T. Barnes. A writing contract with the then new publishing company Island Bound Music ensued. Seven years of cuts by artists such as Joe Diffie, Sara Evans, Lee Ann Womack, Wade Hayes, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Pam Tillis, and Willie Nelson helped Leslie take the next step in her career.
Jim Ed Norman of Warner Brothers Records Nashville saw something in the talent from Texas and gave her the chance to record her first project "LOVE LETTERS". Leslie and her dear friend, producer Luke Wooten, turned in a critically acclaimed album that established her as one of the leading singer/songwriters in the country music industry.

Meeting the people who find something of meaning in the songs Leslie Satcher believes are nothing short of gifts from God.
