The Band Perry is a country trio from the US consisting of siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil. In 2011 they made their debut on the Billboard charts with three singles, the highest of which peaked at number 14 (If I Die Young), and a top 5 self-titled album.

As 2012 begins to unfold, The Band Perry has made the trek across the pond to see if they can win over UK audiences. Last night they performed live in the UK for the first time at a short music industry showcase.
Opening their six song set with Independence, a song Kimberly told the audience represented what the band is all about; The Band Perry captivated the attention of the crowd with their acoustic-based country/pop melodies. Kimberly’s voice has a distinctive country twang that complements the harmonies of her brothers. When the trio come together vocally something special happens and you can feel the synergy between them.
Hip To My Heart had a rockier influence with a healthy serving of feistiness, Miss You Being Gone was the most true to a traditional country sound and All Your Life was a romantic track which Kimberly said was reflective of her brothers rather than her. Before launching into the kick-you-to-the-curb sentiment of You Lie, the band mashed the track up with Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie which worked surprisingly well.
In between songs Kimberly did the majority of the talking with the audience. Radiating a natural charm she talked fondly of her family, her childhood and her feelings about finally getting to play in the UK. Neil and Reid mostly kept quiet allowing their ‘spitfire’ sister to do the talking.
Saving the best until last The Band Perry closed their set with If I Die Young. The gentle country ballad is as emotive as it is beautiful with Kimberly singing about celebrating each moment that life brings before it’s taken away from you. Her vocal almost had us blubbing as the song’s lyrics moved us.
Judging from the reaction of the audience last night The Band Perry could well have a welcoming audience here in the UK. Whilst country music has a patchy track record in this country, The Band Perry have enough of a pop/rock influence to win over radio; they already have support from Radio 2. March sees the release of their debut UK single If I Die Young and the band will be back in the country promoting the record just ahead of release. We predict a bright future for this talented trio.

The Daily Star (John Earls) Review
NOMINATED for Best New Act at next month’s Grammys, the Tennessee trio make country music cooler than Taylor Swift and sexier than Shania Twain. Singer Kimberly Perry is a real chatterbox, while kid brothers Neil and Reid play guitar better than expected of heart-throbs. Mixing classy ballads like US smash If I Die Young with good-time foot-stompers, don’t be surprised if they line-dance their way up our charts too.
