UK CHART NEWS
Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 28 December 2017)
22 December 2017 - 28 December 2017
Eminem beat Ed Sheeran in the battle for the Christmas No.1 album this week but Sheeran has the Christmas singles crown all to himself for the first time ever with Perfect - the fourth single from ÷ - remaining atop the chart for a third week on sales of 85,397 copies, including 40,171 from sales-equivalent streams.
Boosted by the release of a Beyoncé duet version on its second week at the summit, Perfect received a further boost with the release of an Andrea Bocelli duet version in the latest frame. The combination of all three versions and streaming was enough to beat off a strong challenge from River, the star attraction from Eminem's new album, Revival, not least because Sheeran himself is featured vocalist on the track, which debuts at No.2 on sales of 67,263 copies - making it the first No.2 to breach the 50k mark for 22 weeks. It is Eminem's 33rd Top 10 hit, and both his and Sheeran's fifth No.2.
In a video message >> YouTube to his fans, Ed told OfficialCharts.com: “Thank you very much for making Perfect Christmas Number 1. This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy. Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a Happy New Year.” The track has (Dec 22) been certified double platinum by the BPI, achieving 1.23m combined UK sales and streams to date.  Perfect has held off several competitors from the snowy summit this week; its nearest rival, Eminem’s River (which also features Ed), finishes at Number 2, while a campaign to get Wham’s Last Christmas to the top to mark one year since George Michael’s death finishes at Number 3.

Official UK Top 100 Albums Chart (Week Ending 28 December 2017)
22 December 2017 - 28 December 2017
Eminem had the Christmas No.1 album for the second time in his career, topping the list with REVIVAL, 12 years after compilation Curtain Call: The Hits did likewise.
Eminem's ninth studio album, Revival was strong enough to end the sixth reign of Ed Sheeran's ÷, which was dispatched to No.2 on sales of 120,546 copies.
Helped by a bumper contribution of 19,400 from sales-equivalent streams and the immediate success of Sheeran collaboration River – which opens at No.2 on the singles chart – Revival sold 131,622 copies last week (131,622 = 112,222 pure sales + 19,400 streaming units), and is Eminem's ninth No.1 album, although it sold fewer copies to take the title than immediate predecessor The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which opened on sales of 143,034 in less than five days in 2013.

Christmas With Daniel O'Donnell fell 28-36 (7,500 estmated sales)
Overall album sales are up 24.24% week-on-week at 3,900,520, 2.27% below same week 2016 sales of 3,991,149. Streaming accounted for a record 881,398 sales – 22.60% of the total.
In the same week in 2005 – in a chart that covered the slightly later period of 18-24 December – album sales reached an all-time high of 10,581,571, a tally which included only physical releases. Nineteen albums sold more than 100,000 copies, including one compilation (Now! 62), and 131 albums (33 of them compilations) sold more than 10,000 copies.

UK CHART NEWS

Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 21 December 2017)
15 December 2017 - 21 December 2017
With new X Factor champions Rak-Su's coronation single Dimelo (feat. Naughty Boy & Wyclef Jean) fell 2-6 (27,881 sales), Ed Sheeran had an easy victory atop the singles chart with Perfect selling a further 58,436 copies on its second week at the summit.
Perfect's parent album ÷ returns to No.1 on the album chart, earning Sheeran the seventh double of his career, all of them this year. Sheeran has now spent 19 weeks at No.1 on the singles chart (16 of them in 2017) and 34 weeks at No.1 on the albums chart (18 of them this year) and is second on the list of most weeks at No.1 in the 2010s on both lists, trailing Justin Bieber (30 weeks) on singles and Adele (36 weeks) on albums. Only Frankie Laine (27 weeks in 1953) and Elvis Presley (18 weeks in 1961) have spent more weeks at No.1 on the singles chart in a calendar year than Sheeran has this year.
There were also new peaks for five Christmas songs: Michael Buble's 2011 recording It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (45-18, 17,361 sales) surpasses the No.27 peak it scaled last year; Elton John's Step Into Christmas (63-19, 16,622 sales) improves on the No.24 high it secured in the first week of 1974; Chris Rea, in the news for all the wrong reasons with his health scare this week, surges 68-23 (15,706 sales) with his 1988 single Driving Home For Christmas, beating its Christmas 2016 peak of No.26

The race for Christmas Number 1 has always been a tricky beast. Songs that have become festive staples that you might assume reached the top spot, in fact, didn’t. One such holiday classic is Wham’s Last Christmas.
Released in 1984, Last Christmas was a shoe-in for the top spot. That was, of course, until Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas was released and blew everything else out of the water. Still, Wham’s somewhat melancholic offering landed just behind it at Number 2, making it the biggest selling Number 2 single in Official Charts history.
Following George’s death, fans Tony Rudd & JJ took to Facebook on Boxing Day last year (@lastXmas2017) to start a campaign in a bid to finally get Wham’s Last Christmas to Number 1.
“The campaign seemed like the right thing to do and a nice touch to mark a year since George’s passing,” Tony said. “It never achieved the top spot, plus we'd have an actual Christmas song at Christmas Number 1.”

Official UK Top 100 Albums Chart (Week Ending 21 December 2017)
15 December 2017 - 21 December 2017
With only one new album selling enough copies to debut inside the Top 75 this week, and none impacting the Top 50, there was, nevertheless, a change at the top of the chart for the 16th week in a row, with 2017's biggest-selling album, ÷ by Ed Sheeran, returning to the summit.
Although the new version of Perfect featuring Beyonce is not on ÷, its release has helped to focus attention on Sheeran once again. Increasing consumption for the 11th week in a row since it recorded its lowest weekly sale of 11,224, ÷ secured 73,074 sales last week (including 6,739 from sales-equivalent streaming), its best tally for 35 weeks.
Christmas With Daniel O'Donnell moved 23-28 (8,158 sales) and You Make It Feel Like Christmas by Gwen Stefani fell 55-61 (3,354 sales)
Chris Stapleton with FROM A ROOM - VOL 2 (Mercury Nashville) fell off the top 100 from No.89.

For the Dutchwoman, this big TV debut is a step towards completely new territory, as she commented: "Yes, it's my debut as an actress! I'm really excited. I've been going to Nashville regularly for 20 years - it's the city where my career started, where I signed my first contract. The city has become a kind of second home for me. Now in this grandiose series to get a role - that's the fulfillment of a dream! "
After her breakthrough at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the single "Calm After The Storm" one success story after another followed for DeLange's band The Common Linnets : the song was number 1 in 14 countries. In addition, they were awarded the ECHO in the" Newcomer International "category. The debut "The Common Linnets" was awarded gold in Germany - the single "Calm After The Storm" reached sensational platinum status. Most recently, the band released another hit album, "II" (2015), which conquered the top 20 in Germany and went to # 1 in the Netherlands.
Ilse DeLange will travel to the United States next week (Instagram) to film her parts. Season 6 of Nashville is scheduled to debut on 4 January 2018 on CMT in the United States.

Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 14 December 2017)
8 December 2017 - 14 December 2017
Watford quartet Rak-Su dominated the 14th series of The X Factor, which drew to a close Sunday (December 3), romping to victory in the final. Their coronation single, Dimelo, was released later that evening, giving it a little over four days to accumulate enough sales to top the chart but it ends up well short, with an opening tally of 45,288, including 8,774 from streams, earning it a No.2 debut, leaving Ed Sheeran to claim pole position with Perfect (89,359 sales: 43,899 pure sales + 45,460 streaming points).

Nine of the first 11 X Factor coronation singles debuted at number one with the other two – Steve Brookstein's Against All Odds (2004) and Joe McElderry's The Climb (2009; 450,838 sales) – debuting at No.2, and climbing to No.1 the following week. Louisa Johnson's Forever Young debuted and peaked at No.9 in 2015 (39,196 sales) while 2016 champion Matt Terry's coronation single, When Christmas Comes Around, debuted and peaked at No.3 (45,827).
An appearance on The X Factor finals weekend did little for One Direction star Louis Tomlinson's latest single, Miss You, which opened at No.39 (9,518 sales) and even less for Simon Cowell's new boy band PrettyMuch, whose introductory single, No More (feat. French Montana) opened at No.77 (5,311 sales). X Factor 2016 champion Matt Terry's Sucker For You slid 51-71 (5,761 sales), while his debut album, Trouble, which debuted at No.29 last week, slumped to No.91 (2,317 sales).

Official UK Top 100 Albums Chart (Week Ending 14 December 2017)
8 December 2017 - 14 December 2017
Leadership of the album chart changes hands for the 15th week in a row – but instead of heralding U2's 11th No.1 album with Songs Of Experience (40,669 sales), as most would have expected, instead the chart welcomed back Sam Smith's The Thrill Of It All, which debuted in pole position four weeks ago, and returned to the summit with sales up 35.00% week-on-week at 58,299 (including 4,974 from sales-equivalent streams).
Five weeks into its chart career, The Thrill Of It All has never been out of the top two, and has sold 290,292 copies – enough for it to already rank as the year's sixth biggest-selling artist album.

Chris Stapleton with FROM A ROOM - VOL 2 (Mercury Nashville) made a debut at No.89 selling an estimated 2,400 copies

The UK's best-selling Christmas albums of the century
When it comes to Christmas album sales, the star at the very top of the tree is twinkly-eyed crooner Michael BublĂ©. His seasonal set – entitled CHRISTMAS, just so there was no room for doubt – is the ONLY Christmas Number 1 Album in chart history with the word "Christmas" in the title. It spent three non-consecutive weeks at the top on its release in 2011, and has returned to the Top 10 every year since!
Christmas has sold a whopping 2.6 million in the UK according to Official Charts Company data, has spent almost six months in the Top 10 in total over the last five years and is the UK's 21st biggest selling album since 2000….Read More
