shot the video for “Glow” while on tour in Switzerland this summer. Being in
Gstaad and the Swiss Alps channeled our holiday spirit, so we couldn’t pass up
the chance to create our own winter wonderland magic!” says Little Big Town.
“We’re so happy to finally share our first-ever Christmas record with the
world. We hope this soundtrack will create some new traditions for you this
holiday season.”
The
11-track record – produced by Dave Cobb – includes new interpretations of
country classics and a stellar batch of original soon-to-be-classics. Among
these originals is “Glow,” the upbeat track that’s begging to be
listened to around a crackling, stocking-adorned fireplace.
The
Christmas Record follows
the release of Little Big Town’s first-ever Greatest Hitsalbum,
released in August to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary. Consisting of 12
tracks that span the group’s genre-defining discography, the record pays
tribute to their remarkable journey thus far, and teases what’s to come thanks
to fresh collaborations with Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, and Sugarland.
Little
Big Town won’t be slowing down this holiday season. Along with the release
of The Christmas Record, the band will be ringing in the holidays
with NBC for their one-of-a-kind special, “Little Big Town’s Christmas at The
Opry.” The 2-hour holiday spectacular will feature performances from Little Big
Town along with some extra-special guests. At the end of the October, Little
Big Town headed out on the road with special guest Sugarlandfor
the Take Me Home Tour, which hit 18 arenas across the country.

GRAMMY,

The country's quartet were out early this year when
they announced plans for the 2024 tour. The Nightfall Tour started with a
Keynote: A Show at Historic Carnegie Hall in New York on January 16. Little Big
Town will be the first dominating country to play on the pitch after Alan
Jackson in 2013, the press release said. The Big City Night Tour takes place from
January 16 to May 2, ending in Denver, Colorado. Meanwhile, the group will
perform in more than 30 major theaters in the United States. Caitlin Smith
opens all shows.

On Sept 16, 2022 theACM, CMA
and GRAMMY Award-winning band Little Big Town – consisting of

The band also unveiled the music video
for “Three Whiskeys and the Truth,” which was directed by
Running Bear Film’s Stephen & Alexa Kinigopoulos – watch here. “Three Whiskeys and the Truth” was written by
Fairchild and Schlapman alongside their beloved Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey,
Lori McKenna, and Liz Rose), ruminating on the feelings that hide in the dark
but that always come to the surface somehow..
Praise for Mr. Sun included The
New York Timeshailing it “a sweeping record” and American
Songwriter observed that “inside the record, notes reminiscent of
the Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, and the Eagles ring out, but they’re all tailored
to Little Big Town’s country expertise.” Rolling Stone called
it “smooth and sweet, with just the right undercurrent of sadness,” with
production that feels “spacious and golden.”
Billboard singled out the album’s “swelling” closing track “Friends
of Mine,” as a “benediction to finding the collective strength to
persevere through tough times,” while Rolling Stone further
tied it to the full record: “Like much of Mr. Sun, it feels like a
warm embrace from a loved one.”
The album’s lead single “Hell Yeah” (released on April 11, 2022)
was co-written by Sweet, Westbrook, Corey Crowder and Tyler Hubbard.
The genesis of Mr. Sun was
unlike any of their previous albums. Due to the pandemic, the band found
themselves off the road and apart for the first time ever throughout their
20-year journey. The resilience and creativity born from those months unearthed
a deep appreciation for both one another, and the privilege of making music –
ultimately inspiring the self-produced Mr. Sun, which packs
both the sparkle of storytelling and the heat of truth-telling in a way
only Little Big Town can.

Little
Big Town ALBUM Chart History
LBT’s
previous album NIGHTFALL (released January 17,
2020) made a debut at No.1 on the Official UK Country Album Top 20
Chart(WeekEnding 30 January 2020) it also topped Billboard
Top Country Albums chart and peaked at No.13 on the Billboard 200.
Little
Big Town landed their fourth top 10 album, as THE BREAKER made a Billboard 200 bow at No.4 with 51,000 units
(43,561 from traditional album sales | Chart
dated March 18, 2017).
The group previously visited the Billboard 200 top 10 with
PAIN KILLER (No. 7 in 2014), TORNADO (No. 2, 2012) and THE REASON WHY (No. 5,
2010).
Little Big Town had the second-most top 10s among country
duo/groups during the 2010 decade, trailing only Lady Antebellum, which has
five top 10s since 2010. (Lady Antebellum had a total of six top 10s,
stretching back to its 2008 self-titled release.)
The Breaker was led by the Taylor Swift-written single “Better
Man,” which spent two weeks at No.1 on the Hot Country Songs chart (the
group’s third leader on the tally). Over on the Country Airplay chart, it has
spent the last two weeks atop the list, the act’s second #1 following up on
2012’s “Pontoon.”
Before The Breaker, LBT last charted on Top Country Albums
with PAIN KILLER. In the week ending Oct. 26, 2014 it sold 41,979 copies
and made a bow at No.7 on the BB200 (#3 Country).
LBT’s fifth studio set TORNADO (released Sept 11,
2012), powered by its hit lead single, "Pontoon,"
opened with a No.2 start on the Billboard 200 giving the quartet its highest
charting album ever with best sales week (112,758 copies sold, then 50,321
copies sold in week 2 down 55%). It also netted the group their second No.1 on
the Country Albums chart and more than doubled the first week sales of previous
release THE REASON WHY (started at the summit on Sept. 11, 2010; 42,000
sold). By Dec 20, 2012 “Tornado” had sold 502,858 copies scanning GOLD at
retail.
LBT first hit Top Country Albums with its debut self-titled
set (No. 40, 2002), followed by The Road to Here (No. 12, 2006) and A

Church,” from Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium this weekend with
back-to-back, sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday evening.
The reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year earned
numerous standing ovations as they showcased their award-winning vocals during
each nightly performance of their new album, The Breaker.The launch of
“Little Big Town at the Mother Church” coincides with the world-wide release of
Little Big Town’s seventh studio album, released February 24th, and marks the
only time in the venue’s 125-year history to host a year-long artist residency.

debut their first, and only, live full-length album performances of The Breaker.
After opening the show with the album’s “optimistic standout” (Sounds Like Nashville) “Happy
People,” the band went on to perform every track on their new album
from top to bottom– including their current chart-topping #1 song at country
radio, “Better Man”–before later trading off lead vocals for several
songs including “Beat Up Bible,” “When Someone Stops Loving You,” and
the album’s title track, “The Breaker.”
The packed set list had the audience on their feet, singing
along to every word of the band’s biggest hits, from “Pontoon” to “Girl Crush,”
the thirteen week #1 Grammy-winning crossover hit that recently propelled Pain Killer to
RIAA-Platinum-status, earning the group their third RIAA-Platinum album
certification as a band.
Each evening’s special surprise guest appearances–an expected
staple of future “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” dates—solicited
enormous audience applause as breakout Country artists Sam Hunt and Chris Stapleton
(2/24) and powerhouse vocalist Andra Day
(2/25) joined Little Big Town on stage. At the close of each show, in contrast,
the band earned a different reaction—complete reverence in the form of
uninterrupted silence- as the band launched into an unexpected, completely
acoustic encore, sans mics, aimed at paying homage to early Ryman Auditorium
performances.

“expanded their audience beyond Tennessee” (USA Today)

The collection,
which features their now Hot Country Songs and Billboard Country Airplay No.1 single “Better Man,” was written
and recorded during one of their busiest and most successful years to-date, so
they were apparently not able to devote the time to write as many songs for it
as they have for previous albums.
“We had an incredibly like creative year last
year. I mean, we went from starting this record to making the Pharrell record,
which was unexpected but such a joy and so creative in a different way than the
records that we make with Jay [Joyce],” said LBT’s Karen Fairchild. “And so, we
were writing, and then we were writing with Pharrell and then that ended up
being a record. And then we were planning the tour and we went out on the road
with Luke for 70 shows, and it just never stopped. And it was like all year
long output, output, output of creative. And so yeah, the writing scenarios on
the record might not look like they have on past records, but it was just the
way it was going to happen. I mean, when you’re that busy it’s like the success
also makes it difficult to like write all the time, because writing on the road
is not the easiest thing in the world. You have a million distractions, and so
there’s all kinds of things like getting focused. But we had also the blessing
of having all of these incredible songs sent to us and they seemed to be
piecing themselves together.”
The reigning ACM
and CMA Vocal Group of the Year will begin their residency at the Ryman on Friday (February 24th).
They’re expected to perform every song on their new album.

Last year the
chart managers quite rightly deemedLittle Big Town’s electronic diversion setWANDERLUST(Capitol Nashville) not to
be classed as “country”. It arrived at No.105 on the Billboard 200 and #50 Top
Albums with5,700pure sales. Instead of releasing a straight-up
country/rock record, LBT dropped the collaborative project withPharrell Williams.Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild
said “The music feels like our worlds have collided in the best possible way -
his infectious grooves paired with our layered vocals and harmonies. This music
is meant to be danced to, sung along with and turned up loud. It's uplifting
and hopeful”.
Previously to
that their last “country” album PAIN
KILLER (Capitol Nashville/UMGN) made a bow and peaked at No.7 on
the Billboard 200 and #3on Top
Country albums Country) with 42,000 copies sold on its debut week. This was
well short of the September 11, 2012
release of TORNADO which
bowed with 112,800 copies sold. Painkiller was fuelled by the lead-off single “Day Drinking” becoming the group’s sixth top 10 (#4 Billboard
Country Airplay) and then the #1 smash hit “Girl
Crush” (writers Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose) which snagged
CMA Song and Single of the year in 2015 propelling the 4-piece group to stardom.
So, is THE BREAKER a genuine return
to country? Well, there is little for the traditional country music fan to grab
onto with the 12-track offering mostly reaching out to millennials.
The album kicks off with the chug-along bouncy
opener “Happy People” written by top singer songwriters Lori
McKenna and Hailey Whitters. The track with its purring Hammond interspersed
with some faint steel smoothly rolls out some golden
rules, as to how to put smiles on faces and finding true happiness. An art
which is something to be cherished, learned and embraced in an ever-cruel and
hurtful world: Here's to whatever what
puts a smile on your face, Whatever makes you happy, people
“Night on Our Side" co-written
by LBT members Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook is something which forestalls
that “we might live forever for a little
while tonight” whilst bending the rules till dawn breaks. The Pop/Rock
number is something like a hark back to the “Rumours”-era Fleetwood Mac
underpinned with acoustic vibes of Christopher Cross’ “Sailing”
The wild abandon of the dreamy “Lost in California" penned by A-list
hit songwriters Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose paints some
pretty colours and highlights Little Big Town’s key strength – those close
harmonies. Those skills are magnified on the nostalgic driven “Free”
which celebrates that the best things in life can’t be bought and are hard won.
Pointing its compass to a
stadium rock crowd "Drivin' Around" penned by four outside
writers, is rather muddied production wise laced with very modern digital sweetening and editing enrichment techniques.

The reflective “We
Went to the Beach” has a pleasant laid back breezy feel recalling happy
summer days. Lead-off single "Better Man" penned by Taylor
Swift remains the album go-to standout and landed them a No.1 straight out of the
blocks. A song which at first I had some reservations on, perfectly suits Karen
Fairchild's vocal and just grows and grows on you – I just love it!
The guitar-driven
“Rollin’
is a very rocky affair and musically hardly recalls a roadblock paradise, though stars in the sky shine brightly on
another wistful number "Don't Die Young, Don't Get Old".
It’s not until the
journey to track 10 when you feel the multi-award winning group truly begin to get
back to their country roots. Kimberly Schlapman takes the lead vocal baton on
the gentle acoustic driven “Beat Up Bible” where every line in
the worn and dusty manuscript offers comfort and recalls precious memories.
Jimi
Westbrook’s vocals take centre stage on the heart-breaking “When
Someone Stops Loving You,” which rocks some soulful vibes where no
switch can be flicked when struggling to get over a deep relationship and move
on from a man’s perspective. In a reversal of roles on title cut and gentle
paced album closer "The Breaker" (Jimi Westbrook
lead vocal) is full of honest regret where no words can paper over those
hurtful cracks depicting a sad tale of love gone wrong:

Whilst Breaker offers those trademark classy LBT vocal harmonies
and radio-friendly modern-country cuts it perhaps overall embraces a little too
many elements of pop and rock.

unmatched ability to transform subtle Nashville lyricism into major pop drama –

first record since their rise to stardom in which downtempo, more contemplative
material completely outweighs the muscular, radio fodder like "Night on
Our Side" and "Drivin' Around," songs that feel too vague in
their worry-free escapism to sound convincing.

closing ballads pull back on the instrumentation throttle in favour of an
adult-contemporary ambience, planting focus directly on applaudable lyrical
content....Little Big Town are a commodity whose wide appeal has yet to
translate to the transatlantic success they deserve. Especially given their
attention towards UK audiences, it is a shock that their legions of edible
material have not resulted in a radio hit here thus far. I like to think it’s
only a matter of time. Their music is ageless, and it’s always easy to tell
when you’re listening to Little Big Town.
