Helena Mace’s latest single ‘Runaround’ snags an iTunes top 10: Review & Interview

Bournemouth girl done good
#ukcountryradioawards #girllgoingsomewhere

Bournemouth based singer-songwriter Helena Mace has had another packed and eventful year with more exciting times to come.
Singing in the Bournemouth area for the past 12 years as always she plays frequent multi-genre (Instagram photo), cover songs and country shows in her locality and other shows across the South of England.
She was hand-picked by the top DJs of 24/7 Internet station UKCountryRadio.com (“playing The Hottest Music In The UK”) and played on their debut stage at this summer's Welshpool Country And Western Festival in June. She has also played the Quayside Music Festival in Weymouth and the Wimborne Folk Festival.

On March 15,  2019 she released her single “Save It for Another Day” which reached No.3 on the UK Country iTunes Album Chart (#256 UK iTunes all-genres peak) and stayed in the Top 200 for 2 days.

Singer-songwriter Helena Mace to release new single “Save It For Another Day”

The Boscombe Manor artiste was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour, after believing she had an ear infection, and feared she could lose her hearing in one of her ears and the local paper ran an article on the story. Two MRI scans in December last year determined she had acoustic neuroma which goes from the brain to the inner ear. “It’s so rare, only one in 100,000 people get diagnosed with them”, Helena said.
With the release of the Save it For Another Day she hoped it may inspire someone else who may have similar symptoms to go to the doctors by raising awareness of the condition.

HACKED OFF: In June much to her horror she found that her Facebook pages had been stolen and became victim of having her 2 Facebook accounts (both music profile & personal profile) hacked into and stolen by a person who was illegally selling products in Helena's name. Posing under someone else's account and fraudulently gaining money is an illegal activity.
Helena had built up (with the help of Country Music Social Media) a 4 - 5K Facebook following and she lost a 12-year-old personal Facebook history.
Despite numerous of Helena's fans reporting the theft Facebook did nothing apart from shutting down Helena's access to Facebook. The story made the main news on ITV Meridian and the issue was finally resolved.
July 5 Update: Richard Slee ITV news Bournemouth, interview was also aired on the ITV Meridian: Musician devastated by scam on Facebook

Helena was the most nominated artist for the 2019 UK Country Music Awards (which was presented by UKCountryRadio.com) in 4 categories: Album of the Year (CHASING DREAMS, released March 2018, received rave reviews), Female Artist of the year and Country Artist of the Year plus the Gary Perkins Angel award for her services to music and her hard work even whilst dealing with a benign brain tumour. She was invited to perform at the awards held at the Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport on Saturday 14th September.

UKCountryRadio.com’s 12th Birthday Party & UK Country Music Awards 2019 Review

On Oct 12, 2019 Helena excitedly announced she would be performing in HMV Bournemouth as part of National Album Day platform. Her CHASING DREAMS album is now on sale in the store sitting on the shelves beside the big names in country music.

Her music has featured a large amount on UK country radio shows across several countries and now UKCountryRadio.com are supporting her with website exposure and backing her new single Runaround was was produced in Bournemouth by Nineyards Music and written by Helena and the Nineyards team (Adrian Withers and Philip Snowden).
The track was part of a pre-order 8th November with a full general release 15th November 2019. This track is part of the new album which will have collaborations from Matt Black at Hangover Hill Studios and Nineyards Music.
Helena will be launching a new album in Spring 2020 as well as performing songs from her current album and will be appearing at events across the country to promote her music and hopes to perform in the US over the next 2 years!

“Runaround” SINGLE REVIEW

Release Date: 15 Nov 2019
Label: Nineyards music
Time: 3:52

Debut & iTunes Chart Run: #15 UK Country iTunes Singles Chart (selling 18% of the No1 single by Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber), then #12, then #10 * peak *, then #16, then #19, then #23, then #25 | Sat Nov 16: #32, then #59

This jangly Americana-tinged mid temp single with its lightly rattling 60s Bryds-like guitars depicts a fatal attraction and the frustations of a good gal meets bad boy relationship. Those exasperations, excuses and lies are blown away by one loving kiss sending the female protagonists’ head & heart into a wild spin.

She first regrets falling hopelessly in love and believing all the stories but its hard to let go of that steamy affair.  With its sweetly aching chorus and sing-along hooks with repeat plays this number has growing appeal.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
Lyrically, the song centers on a lying partner that cast a spell and pulled her into a false pretense of a safe relationship and now continues to give the “runaround” instead of opening up and being truthful. It is a subject matter that will no doubt resonate with fans worldwide. Surely we’ve all been in that place at some point in our lives. Just wanting to know exactly where we stand rather than have somebody play games with your heart. Helena Mace is an incredible songwriter who effortlessly weaves a story throughout her tracks and with ‘Runaround’ she has perfectly brought this story to life and paints an almost cinematic vibe throughout the clever lyrics…..‘Runaround’ is a stunning piece of country crossover music that will delight fans new and old alike. It’s relatable and thought-provoking in equal measure and gives a real insight into the type of wonderful artist Helena Mace is. This has the potential to become a global smash. - Laura Klonowski  Belles & Gals Review

"Has a great new single out and doing extremely well with it" - Jim Duncan 101.8 WCR FM - the station with MORE for Wolverhampton

"A fine start with 'Runaround' a great track from Helena Mace" - Roger Peck CMR Nashville The British Country Music Show
ICYMI: Listen to Roger Peck’s interview conducted at the UK Country Music Awards and first broadcast on CMR Nashville on Nov 15, 2019:

Published Nov 1, 2019 watch the new video for “Runaround”:

LYRICS
Its 6 o clock in the morning and it's a brand new day.
The same old lines youre calling, why you cant come this way.
And every day I'm thinking, what's the point of this
Then you change my mind, with just one single kiss.

Chorus.
You keep on giving me the Runaround.
I'm  going around so fast, my feet dont touch the ground.
I wish that you'd slow down and give me a fighting chance.
Baby why do you keep giving me the Runaround,  the Runaround.

I wish I hadnt fallen in so fast.
I wish I hadn't listened to your lies about your past.
I miss that feeling I had when we first met.
But I know one slam of the door, I'd have so many regrets.

Chorus etc.

INTERVIEW
Always such a lovely artiste to deal with Helena kindly spoke to Country Routes News about her new single ‘Runaround’, her music and future plans

What inspired, what idea sparked the writing process and did it come quickly
I wrote the lyrics to Runaround fairly quickly as it was a very relatable subject for many people I know. I thought that a lot of listeners would be able to relate to the track.

The single has a different production feel to it than your previous singles. Was this a conscious decision?
Where was it recorded and who are the musicians playing on the single?
I am working with another production team on a few tracks on the album so the sound although slightly different , still keeps my style of music going.  I am working with both Nineyards music and Matt Black on the tracks for the album. The producers and musicians are Philip Snowden and Adrian Withers.

Is this an indication of the direction of travel for your next album?
Yes this is an indication of my new album sound, however you can expect to hear good old country tracks , a folk sound and a couple of  ballads on the new album out in spring 2020.

What do you hope listeners / fans can take from 'Runaround' and how they react to it?
I think most of us have been messed around in a relationship in the past so many will know the feeling of that type of up and down relationship.

Who did the cover art graphic for the single?
My husband did the cover art and graphics for the single.

What have you been most proud of during 2019 and what are you hopes for 2020?
I've been proud of having 3 charting singles and numerous award nominations in the past year . It's been a tough journey due to my brain tumour diagnosis so achieving all this is just amazing for me.

What do you consider the biggest challenges for a British Inde country act in the current music business?
I think the music industry is challenging full stop. You have to be thick skinned and determined and just keep doing what you love. It's also a great industry to be in.

Any message for your fans or anything you like to add to share with us?
I'd like to say a big thank you to all those who have played and bought my music and have.come to my gigs.  Theres a new track coming early next year so watch this space.
