Ashton Lane are a Scottish family group who are named after a cute cobbled street in the West End of Glasgow where funky retro charity shops, cinema and bars can be found.
They consist of: Esther O’Connor (lead vocals), Tim O’Connor (guitar, backing vocals) and James Duffin (lead guitar, backing vocals).
Esther is the lead singer of her 3-piece band that includes her husband Tim and brother James. They write all their own songs, and sometimes even co-write with Dad who is Graeme Duffin from the legendary 80’s/90’s band WET WET WET.

During 2012 as a way of introducing themselves to a wider audience  they have been recording what are called “Kitchen Sessions” (Fun time in their own kitchen) sharing covers of artists that have influenced their own music, these include: Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, The Civil Wars and Taylor Swift.

In her recent web chat Taylor says she loves to bake - “It’s a very serious thing” she said and loves the soothing qualities measuring out ingredients and getting everything cookin’. Taylor plans to go into “baking overdrive” for The Fall season!
It therefore seems appropriate for Country Routes News Blog to take a look at Ashton Lane’s Kitchen covers of Taylor’s songs!

Redhead Esther (photo) tackles Taylor’s brand new single from her forthcoming album RED coming out October 22nd!

About the song:  Taylor premiered this kiss-off country-punk song on her August 13th YouTube Webchat and it was released to iTunes that same night.
Swift's "Never” débuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and broke a record formerly held by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" for the largest first-week digital sales for a song by female artist.
Taylor's song sold 623,000 in its first week (6 days of sales); compared to 448K sold in 3 days, before the chart was compiled for "Born This Way".  Sales of Gaga's song actually increased in Week 2 (jumping by 14%), while sales of Swift's song dropped by 51%. In the first two weeks combined, "Born This Way" sold 957K, compared to 930K for Swift's hit.
Taylor will have a Platinum single in only three weeks, a feat which might be something of a country digital record!
Written by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, Shellback and produced with Dann Huff it was released by Big Machine as the lead single from Tay’s fourth studio album.
A physical CD single is set to be released in September 2012.

5 ) “Lego House” (Ed Sheeran)  >>  Aston Lane Cover YouTube

Ed recently wrote and recorded songs with Taylor Swift for her upcoming fourth album, "Red." He was tight-lipped about the collaboration, but said the experience was a "breath of fresh air" because of Swift's colossal success.
"As a person, Taylor's such a sweetheart," he said in a recent interview. "(She's) the perfect example of what musicians should be and how they should work and react. She just loves music and she's not in it for anything else."

Here Ashton Lane, with Esther joining the "gingers alliance", takes a shine to Ed's “Lego House” which was his first song to make the BBC Radio 2 playlist.
Ed co-wrote it with Jake Gosling, Chris Leonard and it was released as the third single lifted from the debut studio album “+” (4× Platinum certification in UK) on 11 November 2011.
The song has peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart.
So impressed with Ed’s song when she saw the video whilst on tour in Australia, Taylor tracked down the British writer and gave him a call!

Ashton Lane are no one trick country ponies, as well as the ability to cover songs they have their own music.
Inspired by the new country sounds on the radio in Nashville they found their “musically home”.
