Taylor Swift’s Ruby Red Week , Oct 22 – Oct 26

SOURCES/LINKS in RED !

It was has been dubbed “Taylor Swift Week”, the 22-year-old country/pop singer launched multiple 5-DAY media events in support of and to promote her brand new album RED.

So…’Taylor Swift Week’ starts tonight on @ETonlinealert– it’s very nice of them
of them to call it that. Excited.” Taylor tweeted that same day.
She managed to organize a select group of Twitter followers and Facebook friends to join her in New York, where they literally “followed” her, providing live updates to millions of fans around the world via social media postings. Tay currently has more than 19.7 million Twitter followers and 34.9 million Facebook likes. So the chances of being of the select group was like winning the National Lottery. No doubt music industry moguls were watching these clever marketing tools in this new social media RED communication age! The singer who may appear to be a one woman marketing machine has infact a big team behind her, aptly titled Big Machine Records.
Triple threat: Swift blends the best of old and new school marketing. She persistently takes advantage of numerous physical and digital channels to get her message out right across all elements of the social media landscape.
With Taylor’s adaptability, honesty and presence of mind she has built a fan base of millions and rewards them with:
Accessibility, information and approachability.

Firstly to the all important album itself
Red, the fourth studio album from six-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift, was released worldwide (October 22nd), and the disc is already notching striking sales numbers and widespread critical acclaim.

Red topped the all-genre Top Albums chart at iTunes within 36 minutes of release, and first day sales at iTunes alone topped 262,000 albums. Taylor scored 13 of the Top 20 songs on iTunes, with the song “Everything Has Changed” taking the #1 position on the all-genre Top Songs chart. Thus far, Red has sold 4.5 million song downloads to date at iTunes in the U.S. alone. At Target stores, Taylor’s Speak Now album had the highest one-week sales in the retailer’s history. Red has now set the record for Day One sales and is on pace to exceed SPEAK NOW’S one week results.

Worldwide, Red reached #1 at iTunes on the first day of release in 32 countries, including the UK, Australia, Singapore, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Denmark, Venezuela, Thailand, and Ireland.

Taylor's new album 'Red' is finally available to download now on iTunes. As many people know Taylor has released 5 singles from 'Red' already. If you have bought any of these you can download the full album now for a discounted price.
If you've already bought ALL of them, you can download the full album for just £4.04!!!
Here's how it works if you bought ANY of these singles: Universal Music Press

With Red, Taylor has set a new Billboard record — for the most rapid accumulation of 50 Hot 100 hits in history, reaching the milestone just six years and one month after her 2006 chart debut. Aretha Franklin previously held the record, with a stretch of just over 14 years and six months, and Taylor is one of only five women in the 54-year history of the chart to reach this milestone (joining Franklin, Madonna, Connie Francis and Dionne Warwick).

RED Predictions
Taylor Swift is poised to become the first female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991 to present) to have a pair of albums sell more than a million units in a single week.
According to industry sources, first-day sales for RED (Monday, Oct. 22) surpassed 500,000 units, including a record opening day sum at Target, as the mass-merchant scored exclusive rights to the album's deluxe version which includes three additional songs and three remixes. According to sources, Target shifted more than 160,000 units.

iTunes Music Store reportedly accounted for nearly half of all units sold on "Red's" first day of availability.
The projected first-day sales of "Red" along with full-week estimates from industry prognosticators point to the set most likely surpassing the 1-million sales mark in its debut frame. Swifts last studio set, SPEAK NOW, released almost exactly 2 years ago (Oct 25, 2010) debuted on the Billboard 200 chart dated Nov. 13, 2010, with 1.047 million units.Billboard Biz Story

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Billboard's retail sources are already predicting 1 million in first-week sales. By today's piracy-plagued standards, that's gigantic – since Swift's previous album SPEAK NOW came out in November 2010, the only other album to hit this mark in a week was Lady Gaga's BORN THIS WAY (1.108 million). And she needed a crazy Amazon 99-cent deal for two days during release week to achieve the numbers.
Taylor has three singles in iTunes' Top Songs this week – the new "State of Grace" (Number Two, with 209,000 overall sales, according to Billboard), "I Knew You Were Trouble" (Number Three, with 156,000 overall) and the ubiquitous "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (Number Eight).

Taylor Swift’s Red also drew impressive widespread critical acclaim:
Taylor Swift is a turbine of artistic ambition and superstar drama, and Red is a 16-song geyser of willful eclecticism. Her self-discovery project is one of the best stories in pop. When she’s really on, her songs are like tattoos.” – Rolling Stone
The writer James Dickey once described a poet as ‘someone who stands outside in the rain, hoping to be struck by lightning.’ He could’ve been talking about Taylor Swift. Sublime…Red should be required listening…’We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ is the snarkiest pop kiss-off, like, ever.” –Entertainment Weekly

Taylor Swift’s Red burns with confidence. [She] seems to have crossed some sort of emotional threshold [to] the assured words and music of a star. There are no bumps on Red. Only clean, perfectly rendered American popular music.”Los Angeles Times
Taylor Swift’s Red is another winner….. What Swift does better than anyone [is] she connects with clear, concise, relatable love songs that are thrown like punches and steeped in everyday details.” – The Washington Post

Decked out in a red dress and matching lips, Taylor sat down to chat with George Stephanopoulos to dish about the happenings in her busy life. When asked about her new album, the 22-year-old said that she took herself out of her comfort zone and challenged herself this time around.
When asked about her newest hit single from the album, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” she dished that the song is a way of understanding what she is feeling. She said that she has always turned her complicated emotions into music to make them simple. Asked about her previous statement saying she wrote “Never” to drive her ex “absolutely crazy,” Swift laughed and replied, “I maybe said that one place… on a bad day. Even though she won’t name certain names in her songs, Taylor says that her fans know her well. She went on to explain, “My fans know that I’m going to give them the real version of what happened to me in my music and they know that what they read about [me in] blogs and gossip sites may or may not be true.”“They can kind of tell if it’s true or not because they know me,” Swift added. Access Hollywood
she’s “definitely a girl’s girl.”
Access Hollywood’s Kit Hoover sat down with Taylor, where she dished on her best girlfriends – Selena Gomez and Emma Stone – and her love of a variety of girl-powered TV shows.
I’m definitely a girl’s girl. I need to tell my friends everything I’m going through,” Taylor said. “We have these big group texts where I’ll just like text them everything that’s going on with my day and one of us in New York, one of us is in Los Angeles, one of us is in Nashville or Paris.”
Taylor, Selena and Emma have all had amazing career highs this year, and the trio relies on each other’s mutual continued support as they all navigate their different paths.
It’s just so important to have people that you trust and Emma and Selena and I, we’ve had so many things in our lives that have changed over the last couple years, but our friendship has stayed the same. So that’s really good,” she told Kit.
  • When it comes to dealing with relationship advice, Taylor said she goes to Emma for help and for career tips, she seeks out Selena. Watch the Video

The singer told Kit that said her favorite TV show is “Grey’s Anatomy,” even naming her cat after the show’s star. “I love ‘Girls,’ I love ‘The Mindy Project,’ I love ‘New Girl’” she added.
I love Ellen Pompeo and I love that cast,” she explained. “That show has been there for me through some tough times, so I named my cat after Meredith.” And the female-fueled TV watching doesn’t stop with Seattle Grace for the chart-topper. Watch the Video

Taylor Swift Paints ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’ Stage ‘Red’
Taylor Swift celebrated the release this week of her new album, Red, by performing the title track last night on The Late Show With David Letterman. Surrounded by her band of 10 people - including back-up singers, guitarists, a banjoist, and a fiddle player — Swift took the stage once again wearing all black, similar to her ‘GMA’ appearance that morning and a bevy of backing singers, Swift sang a smouldering version of the broken-hearted pop song. She and the band even picked a color scheme to match the tune, dressing mostly in black to emphasize the redness of her guitar, and her never-leave-home-without-signature-red lipstick  >>  YouTube

The ‘Letterman’ performance went off without a hitch, and — once again — the country crossover star wowed the audience by jamming out on her crimson electric guitar. When the song ended, Letterman himself was obviously eager to make his way on stage and shake the 22-year-old singer’s hand.
Get away from her,” he joked, as he walked past Swift’s bandmates. Then, he shook her hand and congratulated her on the album release.
Before she painted the stage ‘Red,’ Swift carved out a few minutes in her busy schedule to have a sit-down with Mr. Letterman. Of course they chatted about the new album, but the show host also gave Swift an opportunity to chat about her personal life. Like everyone else, voting is on her mind right now.
I feel like at 22, it’s my right to vote, but it’s not my right to tell other people what to do,” she quipped, earning a proud fist bump from Letterman.
The ‘Begin Again’ singer also chatted about driving around Nashville when she interviewed with a Rolling Stone reporter for her recent cover story. In a quirky turn of events, Swift ended up having two car accidents with the journalist in her car. Luckily, he still painted her in a positive light in the article!

Taylor Swift Decides To 'Begin Again' in Paris
(New Video – Billboard Story)
Early on Wednesday morning, Swift unveiled her latest piece of artful promotion: the "Begin Again" music video, which finds the country superstar strolling the streets of Paris in search of a fresh start.

At first, the "Begin Again" video appears to be strikingly similar to Adele's "Someone Like You" clip, with Swift crooning her respective ballad while pensively gazing across the water and remembering a lost love.

But then, salvation: while sketching the Eiffel Tower at a cafe, Swift attracts the attention of a sophisticated-looking photographer.
After a fair amount of bicycling on Swift's part, the clip ends with the two walking side-by-side, as the singer allows herself to "begin again."

The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Stars talk exes and OMGs..Does The Name Ring a Bell?
Taylor Swift gets really, really uncomfortable on the Ellen DeGeneres show
Every time a bell rings, Taylor Swift loses her mind. Taylor Swift appears on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Taylor Swift will sing about her exes, but she's not going to talk about them, no matter how many times you ask, Katie Couric, Glamour magazine, Entertainment Tonight, etc. Not for all the caramel-delight cookies in the world.

Cue the Ellen DeGeneres Show, after ribbing Swift about her close, personal bond with Zac Efron, the object of the game was simple: reveal the identity of the dude who inspired "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" -- Swift's first Red single -- without saying a word.
Swift was given a bell, DeGeneres said she'd start a slideshow of Swift hanging with her various, famous gentleman friends. If Swift spotted "We Are Never's" muse, she'd have to ring the bell -- but she could ring it twice more, just to maintain some mystery.
"Stop it, stop it, stop!" Swift yelped, while pictures of the singer and stars including Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer, among others (Danny DeVito) flashed on the screen behind her. Watch the video  YouTube  More at www.ellentv.com

ABC's "Katie" with Katie Couric
Newly-single Taylor Swift has blamed her inability to hold down a relationship on the pressure of living in the spotlight - and says she doesn't really know that much about love.
The singer opened up to Katie Couric in a pre-recorded interview, filmed just days before news broke on Thursday about her split from Conor Kennedy. While the 22-year-old didn't admit her split to Couric when filming the interview on Monday, she did muse over struggles she encounters in her love life.

She told the ABC special correspondent that she doesn't know how to have a normal relationship - because of the 'abnormal magnifying glass' she lives under.
Taylor explained: 'I don’t know how to have a normal relationship because I try to act normal and love from a normal place and live a normal life, but there is sort of an abnormal magnifying glass, like telescope lens, on everything that happens.'
She goes on: 'So I don’t know how to do that correctly or anything,' adding: 'I don’t really know that much about love, it turns out.'

Taylor Swift's 'Red': The Billboard Cover Story
Taylor Swift graces the cover of the October 27 issue of Billboard magazine

The 22-year-old “Begin Again” country darling is seen wearing a white top with blue capris as she strummed her guitar in a Brian Doben shot (IMAGE) spread while spilling the news of her new album RED.

Hopes for Big First Week Sales:
"The first step was to look at where we wanted the record to go. A worldwide release, really - we made that a priority. To me, the answer to every question of 'Will you do this to promote the album?' was 'yes.' My team has come up with brilliant ways to market this record, to expand the retail footprint. Selling an album in Walgreens, selling it at Papa John's - these are all different ways that have so far been unexplored, so we'll see what happens."

Worries about playing the new songs and Internet leaks:
Ten days before the release of Taylor Swift's fifth album, "Red," Scott Borchetta is in "redundancy mode." That means checking, double-checking and triple-checking every aspect of the 16 tracks on the album. Nothing about the process is musical; it's all a case of security.
"Every day that the album doesn't leak is a victory," says Borchetta, president/CEO of Big Machine Label Group. "It's out in the field -- it's being manufactured, it starts shipping -- so there are a lot of daily phone calls. I only sleep three or four hours a night and get back to it, adrenalized."
The clampdown isn't just in Borchetta's office. People who worked on the album have been asked to not say a word until it's released Oct. 22. Swift and her band have a string of nine TV performances during the album's first 10 days of release, and they're sticking to the four songs that have been prereleased on iTunes.
"We're really paranoid, knock on wood, about a leak," Swift says, "so we don't even go near a song that hasn't been released. We don't even practice them."

Emotions and sounds on RED:
Throughout the conversation, Swift refers to the emotions behind the songs and how they drove the entire album's creation, even if it meant less cohesiveness from track to track. "I'm 22," she says. "I'm all over the place, so my record is all over the place. Part of this record is acknowledging [that] all these emotions are very loud and very different from one another. At one end of the spectrum you have 'Sad Beautiful Tragic,' which is a breakup song in the form of a funeral march, and you also have 'Never Ever Getting Back Together' again, which is a breakup song in the form of a parade."
When it came time to decide the track order, Swift had only a starting point: "State of Grace" and "Begin Again" were the bookends, as both were about a "significant and kind of damaging relationship."

FAKE NEWS: Obama, Romney Spend Final Debate on Merits of New Taylor Swift Album
Excerpt: When frantic eleventh-hour phone calls revealed that a scheduling snafu had pitted the third presidential debate against another major national event, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney agreed to nix the planned foreign affairs focus and devote the evening’s discussion to what would really be on America’s mind on October 22.
This final presidential debate will focus on Taylor Swift, whose new album Red came out just this morning,” moderator Bob Schieffer explained at the top of last night’s televised show. “Both candidates have been listening to the album all day, and have agreed not to mention Carrie Underwood or anything foreign in their responses.
In a departure from the format of the first two presidential debates, the candidates were seated at a table with a Swift-branded Papa John’s pizza box between them.
