2012 ACA Awards Report

The 2012 ACA Awards aired live from The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
The ACA is the fourth major country music awards show of the year and the youngest; this Fox TV creation began in 2010. The biggest names in country music gathered for The third annual ACAs in Las Vegas hosted by none other than the adorable (and tiny) Kristin Chenoweth, and much taller Trace Adkins!
Each winner bagged a guitar!
Bryan, Aldean, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, and Adkins with Lynyrd Skynyrd were among the high-energy performances. The Collabo of the Nightaward went to Adkins when he took the stage alongside Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Kristin Chenoweth immersed herself in country music again. A co-host of last year's American Country Awards, the Tony- and Emmy-winning singing and acting dynamo reteamed with Trace Adkins (who's had the job from the start) to preside over the annual fan voted event.
Kristen & Trace ACA's 2012

There was great chemistry between them and the duo often played up to the comical size difference between them (Photo) Kristin and Trace made for a fantastic team and the crowd loved it when Trace carried the 44-year-old in a pink baby papoose (photo)  . That massive difference in height between Chenoweth and Adkins proved to be the entertaining factor.

Trace Adkins, co-hosting the show, looked dapper in a velvet suit as he posed with Rhonda Forlaw on the red carpet - Photo

With nine different outfits during her stint hosting the American Country Awards, viewers had little time to focus on Kristin Chenoweth’s wardrobe choices. The diminutive star brought plenty of holiday cheer to the proceedings when she slipped into a sexy Santa costume. Best outfit went to her Honey Boo Boo getup (and impersonation) She bedazzled in the pink pageant dress inspired by the frock made famous by TLC reality star Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson. Completing the 44-year-old singer's transformation into the 7-year-old beauty queen she wore a curly blonde wig, a bottle of "Go Go juice," and Adkins, who, at 6-foot-6, made his 4-foot-11 co-host look convincingly like a pint-sized pageant princess. Photo

Kristin was flirtin' up a storm with any single guy in the audience. Apparently she's single and loving it (despite the Jake Pavelka dating rumors).

Chenoweth was able to (kinda) play off almost falling on stage (a couple times) while performing "What Would Dolly Do." She was just too excited.

"We're really excited," Chenoweth told Zap2it about reuniting with country star Adkins to guide the show. "We really get along, and he's just a cool person. For some reason, we have this crazy chemistry that people enjoy. I enjoy it myself, and I was bound and determined to not lose that date. That was my goal, to be there for that."
Indeed, the American Country Awards marks one of Chenoweth's first big jobs since her devastating accident last summer on the set of CBS' "The Good Wife." While filming what was to be a recurring part as a political reporter, she was struck by a fallen light fixture ... resulting in serious injury to her face, skull, neck, spine and ribs. Her doctors didn't expect her to resume work this soon, but she did.
"I just can't have idle hands," the typically energetic Chenoweth confirms. "I was down for two months easily, then into the third month, I slowly started coming back out a little bit. It was a life-changing event for me, and I don't want to milk it dry, but it's something that will take me a while to recover from. I still have injuries that I'm dealing with, but overall, I'm so lucky to be back. I'm getting there."
A year ago, while filming the ultimately short-lived ABC series "GCB," Chenoweth had an added incentive for involvement in the American Country Awards: her own, then-new country album, "Some Lessons Learned."

"Country music is very inclusive," she reflects, "but you've got to pay your dues there. I think there was a little bit of, 'Wait a minute, now. She may be so-and-so, but she's not been in our world.' When I was asked to do 'GCB,' I think it opened up a little bit of acceptance for me. I'll do another song from the album on the show this year; the way we're doing it is a secret, but I think it'll be really fun."
The end of the country road may not be in sight yet for Chenoweth in recording terms, since she confirms she's "thinking about" making another album in the genre.
"I have a lot of other songs in mind, including a couple that I wrote," she says. "I have a label that I have to answer to (Sony), so we'll see how they feel about it, but I do see that in my future."

The Winners

Luke Bryan
Luke Bryan had an historic night at the third annual American Country Awards in Las Vegas Monday night (Dec. 10). The country singer went in to the live broadcast leading the list of nominees with nine nominations and he took home every single award for which he was nominated, including the night's top honuor: Artist of the Year.
In order to honor the ultimate 2012 American Country Awards artist, Jewel and her husband, bull rider Ty Murray, came on stage to announce the Artist of the Year winner. Luke Bryan beat out Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean for the night’s big prize.
Not only did Bryan manage to win the most coveted prize of the night, he took home eight other awards, too, which the announcer spitting into the microphone at rapid speed.
In addition to Male Artist of the Year, Bryan’s hit song ‘Don’t Want This Night to End’ took home prizes for Single of the Year: Male, Single of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Music Video: Male, Most Played Radio Track and Most Played Radio Track: Male = Wow!

Luke thanked his fans and his wife for their support and the guitar-shaped award for Artist of the Year he remembered his band for all of their hard work on the road, his management company and his parents.
Mama, daddy, (Jason) Aldean, thank you for a great year, baby,” he said as he accepted artist of the year at the end of the show. “They’re saying wrap (up), but I don’t want to wrap.”
Bryan hit the road on Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” arena tour this year.

Miranda Lambert
Miranda Lambert who presented the first ACA guitar trophy returned to the stage to be the recipient of  the second most electric blue guitar trophies of the evening, winning Female Single, Female Video, and Most-Played Female Radio track with "Over You" which she co-wrote with husband Blake Shelton about the death of his brother, Richie.
Thank you to Blake, my husband, for writing an amazing song,” Lambert said, pointing out that Shelton wasn’t there because he was at the live show for ‘The Voice,’ where he has two contestants in the semi-finals, doubling his chance of winning. The adoring wife said onstage that she TiVo’ed the show and coudn’t wait to get home and watch it, because she was nervous about the competition. She added in in her sweet speech she hoped that her hubby TiVo’ed the ACAs, too, so he could see that they won for their song.

Carrie Underwood
Country music’s popular Carrie Underwood won Female Artist of the Year at the 2012 American Country Awards in Las Vegas on Monday night (Dec. 10). This was her third win in a row in the category.
Presenter Rodney Carrington joked beforehand that the winner of the award — which he called “Best Female in the World” — usually kisses the presenter. He was evidently hoping to get an obligatory peck from one of the nominees, which also included Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and Taylor Swift. The worst let down of the night was unfortunately, Carrie Underwood didn't oblige Carrington the big smooch he was expecting but just a peck on the cheek.
Underwood appeared thankful for the honor. “I know that I am one of the luckiest people, most blessed people,” she said. She thanked God and her fans, as well as the other nominated performers, gushing, “I am in such fabulous company tonight.”

Underwood also won Single of the Year: Vocal Collaboration for ‘Remind Me’ with Brad Paisley.

Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum took home Group of the Year honors. Superstar Miranda Lambert came out on stage to present the first telecast award. The nominees included the Band Perry, Eli Young Band, Rascal Flatts and Zac Brown Band, but Lady A were the big winners taking Group of the Year for three consecutive years
and, in keeping with past years, they simultaneously won Single of the Year for ‘We Owned the Night’
Singer Hillary Scott thanked the fans for their support, while Charles Kelley made an exciting announcement. “We’ve got some new music coming for you all early next year,” he promised.
The ACAs were full of baby talk. Pregnant Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum mentioned her unborn baby in an acceptance speech for group of the year. She also got an oversized baby sling from co-hosts Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth!

Jake Owen
New daddy Jake Owen took home the ACA guitar for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
Comedian Ron White and his mother Barbara presented the award for Breakthrough Artist of the and he did so with a drink in his hand. Vegas + country music = two ingredients in a recipe for a good night and load of fun.
I just had the most beautiful baby girl two weeks ago and just when I thought things could not get any better, things keep rolling. I love my wife, my baby and my mom back home” Jake said onstage.
The singer wore a crisp, white blazer and black shirt, which provided a much better look than the animal print creaction he donned at the 2012 CMAs.

Lauren Alaina
Lauren Alaina, cried when she won Artist of the Year: New Artist. The newbie, high school senior and "American Idol" runner-up beat out Miranda Lambert's group, Pistol Annies and cute Hunter Hayes.
Lauren Alaina ACA win

The former ‘Idol’ star was much more active and visible in 2011 than in 2012, but she still scooped up the award. Alaina was presented with the award by last year’s winner in the category — none other than her main competition in Season 10 of ‘American Idol’ — Scotty McCreery.
McCreery presented the guitar-shaped award to his former ‘Idol’ castmate, who looked lovely in a lemon yellow, jeweled gown. Alaina was genuinely shocked by the win saying, “I can’t breathe. I want to thank God and the fans, thank you for voting for me,” as she fought back tears and her already wet face shined.
She thanked her mother for being her main support for the past two years, which made for an especially touching moment at the 2012 ACAs. (Photo)

Little Big Town
With Gloriana, Lady Antebellum, the Band Perry, Little Big Town, and Love and Theft vying for the Music Video of the Year: Group or Collaboration award guitar, competition was fierce.
In the end, Little Big Town snagged yet another award for their No. 1 tune ‘Pontoon.’
You guys are the greatest fans in the world and you’re the reason we’re all here tonight,”  This is why we get to do what we do,” said guitarist Jimi Westbrook.
Later on, vocalist Kimberly Schlapman chimed in to let attendees and viewers know that those guitar awards that artists are hauling around tonight are actually not made of cardboard, to her surprise. “They’re like for real,” she quipped. “They’re heavy and everything.”
The entire band thanked their fans, their label, their families, and of course like at the 2012 CMA’s they took time to thank Jesus for the award!

Jason Aldean
Jason Aldean put the cherry on an extremely successful 2012 of live performing by winning Touring Artist of the Year
Fellow country stars Lee Brice, Casey James and Jana Kramer presented the award, which pitted Aldean against Eric Church, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley.
I couldn’t win an award that means more to me,” Aldean said, holding up his guitar trophy He thanked the fans who have supported his live shows. “You guys have not let us down … that means more to me than anything,” he stated.

"American Idol" judge Keith Urban invited young musicians from his Grammy Camp to perform with him onstage.
To get everyone in a Holiday Spirit the show rounded off with Lady Antebellum singing one of their Christmas jingles with Trace Adkins in an elf costume and Kristin Chenoweth in her sexy little santa number in attendance.
