Kacey Musgraves, O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire - Standard UK music review (4 STARS) ..Musgraves made it easy to embrace country thanks to sharp lyrics and confident, lilting vocals. From certain angles, Kacey Musgraves resembled P Middy in cowboy boots, though the singer’s Southern charm was all her own. Her choice of covers, ranging from Weezer and Bob Marley to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, pointed to a musical hinterland beyond the sound she’s honed in Nashville….

And reviews of her London and Manchester, Oct dates.
Finding a country artist who can connect with a British audience in a genuine and authentic way has always been a challenge,” said BBC Radio 2’s Al Booth. “The fact that Kacey Musgraves has done this, not just with the loyal UK country fan base, but also with a mainstream audience is a testimony to her exceptional talents. The maturity and depth of her songwriting has huge cross-generational and international appeal, and her abilities as a performer and vocalist transcend any musical categorization.”

UK CHART NEWS

Official UK Singles Top 100 (Week Ending October 26, 2013)
Faith Hill’sThere You’ll Be” re-enters the Top 100 at No.86
Don’t Have Faith! Country Trivia - What is the song that both first round contestants in UK X Factor’s 2013 and 2012 series have sung in the sing-off only been voted off. Answer: Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be !
On Sunday Oct 13th 2013 Lorna Simpson (video) became the first contestant to be voted off The X Factor after the judges chose to send her home after she faced a sing-off with fellow over 25s contestant Shelley Smith.
Back on Sunday night Oct 7, 2012 the gorgeous country/pop singer Carolynne Poole found herself in bottom two of the public vote along with contestant Rylan Clark. Carolynne wearing a figure hugging black mini dress and dark smoky eye make-up also opted for Hill’s ‘There You’ll Be’ >>  YouTube  as a last ditch attempt to repair the damage and remain in the competition. It was a competent and strong performance and she did it justice but sadly went home too. This was not the first time this song had been sung on X Factor. Ireland's Mary Byrne, the Tesco checkout lady- turned-singer covered the song on X Factor live show 6 November 2010. Also back in 2008, 18-year old Amy Connolly's audition reduced judge Cheryl Cole to tears.
Written by Diane Warren the song was originally released by Warner Bros and featured on the PEARL HARBOR soundtrack. The song was also featured on Faith Hill's Greatest Hits albums: THERE YOU'LL BE AND THE HITS.

Official UK Albums Top 100 (Week Ending October 26, 2013)
  • Willie Nelson’s TO ALL THE GIRLS (Sony Music) made a debut at No.72 (1,452 sales) on his first retail week. Yes at the age of 80, the country living legend second album this year, arrived just six months after his standards covers set Let's Face The Music reached number No.188. Nelson isn't the only elderly legend to have chart success with collaborative albums - Frank Sinatra was 77 when he charted with Duets in 1993 and 78 when he charted with Duets II in 1994. His great pal Tony Bennett - who appeared on Duets - took the idea and even the titles for himself, and was 80 when he charted with Duets in 2006 and 85 when he charted with Duets II in 2011.
  • 23-year young Taylor Swift’s RED dropped 78-89 on her 52nd chart week.
  • Of note, 66 year old folk legend Linda Thompson - who recorded a series of albums with former husband Richard before starting her solo recording career in 1985 just missed making her first ever appearance in the Top 75, with Won't Be Long Now with a bow at No.76 (1,416 sales which was just seven fewer than Adele’s 21 at number 75). It Won’t Be Long Now is very much a family affair with the aforementioned Richard, the couple’s children Kami and Teddy and grandson Zak appearing. Thompson's last album, Versatile Heart, reached number 188 in 2007. Recorded in the UK and America with a rich array of contributing musicians including appearances by British stars John Kirkpatrick, Dave Swarbrick, Martin Carthy and his daughter Eliza, as well as American violinist/mandolin player David Mansfield, singer/songwriter Sam Amidon, cellist Garo Yelin and organist Glenn Patscha, among others.

Notes: From the director of The Devil Wears Prada, One Chance is the remarkable and inspirational true story of Paul Potts, a shy, bullied shop assistant by day and an amateur opera singer by night. Paul became an instant YouTube phenomenon after being chosen by Simon Cowell for Britain's Got Talent.
EW: Whip out your pink tux and pierce your left ear — Taylor Swift wants to take you to a 1980s prom.
The pop-country star (and future The Giver actress) teamed up with fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff to pen 80s bubblegum “Sweeter Than Fiction,” a New Wavey track for the upcoming British biopic One Chance, which tells the story of Paul Potts, the down-on-his-luck store clerk who became an opera-singing sensation after winning Britain’s Got Talent in 2007. Swift sings from the point of view of a longtime fan who believed in a performer’s talent long before anyone else did .. The track, which will play over the end-credits of One Chance, is uplifting without being hokey and sweet without being cloying. It’s as light and airy as cotton candy — and just as addictive, too. “So…. “Sweeter Than Fiction” will be available at iTunes TONIGHT at midnight! @onechancemovie,” Taylor wrote on Twitter.

Snapshot news:

  • Taylor Swift's only been releasing music since 2006, but she's been so successful at it that she's now racked up more top-40 hits than The Rolling Stones. According to Billboard, "Everything Has Changed," Taylor's duet with Ed Sheeran, has become her 42nd top-40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.  In their 50-year career, the Stones managed 41, as did Jay-Z, who's been on the scene since the mid-90s, and the late R&B legend Marvin Gaye. Of course, Taylor has been able to score so many hits because she usually releases multiple cuts from her new albums in advance, and they all end up selling hundreds of thousands of downloads, which rockets them up the chart.  Back in the day, before digital downloads, this never happened.
  • When Taylor Swift played four sold-out shows in Los Angeles last August, she simply wanted to give her crowds the best concert possible. She had no idea her performance would lead to her latest movie role in The Giver. Taylor tells ABC News Radio, "When I played my shows in L.A., I was unaware that people from this movie were in the audience, and I had a role offered to me the next week." She says, "I think my show tends to be very emotional and moody and they saw something that they needed in the role. So, I'm very honored and lucky to get to be a part of it." Taylor is now in South Africa filming her part in The Giver opposite Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges. She'll launch the next leg of her Red Tour next month in New Zealand.
  • Dolly Parton graced the stage of The Queen Latifah Show on October 21st. Parton performed “Miss You Miss Me” from the upcoming movie “A Country Christmas Story” set to air on Lifetime on November 9th.

The Queen of Dollywood wears an afro, is blinged out, raps and pokes fun at Miley Cyrus (her goddaughter) all in the same 90-second clip - After referencing twerking (which Dolly didn’t do, unfortunately), she said, “Hey, Miley–I’ve got your ‘Wrecking Balls’ right here” and cupped her nether regions!
  • Dolly Parton sustained minor injuries in a car accident Monday Oct 2st in NASHVILLE. Dolly was the passenger in a vehicle struck by an SUV that failed to yield. She and the driver, JUDY OGLE were transported to VANDERBILT MEDICAL CENTER where they were both treated and released. According to the Nashville Tennessean, Parton later Tweeted, “I was in a fender bender this morning here in NASHVILLE, but I am all good ... Just a little tired and sore. Resting at home now!”
  • Wynonna is kicking up her heels this holiday season with a brand new footwear line, Got Soul, and a new tour, A Simpler Christmas, which kicks off Dec. 3 in Bakersfield, Calif. Inspiration for the new line came to the entertainer after fans clamored for the shoes during her road stops.
  • Carrie Underwood is featured on the soundtrack to NBC's live production of The Sound of Music, due out December 3.  She plays Maria Von Trapp in the TV broadcast, which airs December 5. The full cast, including True Blood's Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp, joins Carrie on the soundtrack singing classic songs from the musical like "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." • Carrie Underwood teamed up with Willie Nelson on a duet version of his classic song "Always on My Mind," but they didn't sing it together in the studio. That means Carrie had to adapt to Willie's unique vocal phrasing -"Going in to record, Willie had kind of already laid down his part," Carrie explains, "and I go in and I'm thinking, how am I going to harmonize with his Willie timing? He has these Willie-isms, right?" Underwood got her part down in a few takes, though. She says, "In the end we got it, and I can't wait to get the album to hear it surrounded by other incredibly talented artists and Willie.

  • CMA CLOSE UP : Vince Gill: Surprising thoughts On CMA’s Entertainer Of The Year Award…Extract What makes the CMA Entertainer of the Year a unique honor? Well, it seems to be a culmination of all things, of doing some business out there and showing great growth as an artist and a lot of things like that. But I’m going to probably be the only guy you talk to who will say this – I probably shouldn’t but I’m gonna (laughs). It’s the truth. Song of the Year was a bigger deal to me, only because what I value in this town is the songs. The word “Entertainer” almost conjures up shuck and jive..: “Hey, I’m going to entertain you!” You think of Wayne Newton, who does exactly that: He entertains people. To me, entertainment was always somebody who just stood there, sang great and played their ass off. That was entertainment to me. That’s how I saw myself. But when I saw that I’d won that Award, I went, “I don’t know if I see myself as that, because other people do that far better than I, with more bells and whistles and everything.” I was prouder of accomplishing the Song of the Year category four different times, because the songs have more longevity. They’ll remember the songs forever, as opposed to, “You were really popular and one of the hottest things going for a year.” The song is forever. I’m probably the only idiot that will make that statement in your interview (laughs). To the business side of things, to have that moniker Entertainer of the Year, everybody looks at it as the biggest Award, even though I’m a little quirky and I don’t. But that’s just me – and I realize what a minority I am (laughs).

  • Toby Keith on Hip-Hop Country: “Is That What We Gotta Do Now?” Toby Keith’s new album, Drinks After Work, features some stellar old-school country, including the swinging “Last Living Cowboy.” But Toby knows it’s difficult to get such traditional-sounding songs played on country radio. “There are a lot of those types of songs . . . but you play that for [the label’s radio promotion staff], and they’re like, ‘Eh, it doesn’t sound like what’s going on the radio today,’” he tells Country Weekly. “Well, OK.”......“You hear the hip-hop thing start kicking in, and you start going, ‘Is that what we gotta do now to have a hit?’ I don’t know how to do that,” he says. “Is that what I need every one of my songs to sound like now? But . . . I’m not going to change much. And when it quits working, I’ve got other stuff to do.”
  • Billboard: Country Music’s Dearth of Females Extends Well Beyond the Artists…Lately, much ado has been made in the consumer press about country music’s female troubles. While format insiders know this is an issue that pops up -- to varying degrees -- about every five years or so, critics have been wound up over the fact that country radio is so light on women right now, and particularly female solo acts. But the lack of females goes well beyond artist rosters........
  • austinot.com The Great Willie Bake Off - Sideserf Cake Studio Transforms Cakes into Lifelike Art...“My whole life was art, art, art,” Natalie Sideserf of Sideserf Cake Studio told
Austinot.come recently during a happy hour meeting downtown. Not surprisingly, her interests led her to study art at Ohio State. But Natalie didn’t choose to apply her training to clay or plaster. Instead, in a turn of events that may have seemed odd to onlookers, she decided on an unconventional artistic medium: cake...Continuing to hone her skills, Natalie decided to enter Capital Confectioners’ Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition. She wanted to sculpt her cake in the form of a lifesize older male’s head, so her mom suggested Willie Nelson. That’s when things got a little wild. After approximately thirty hours of work, this was the result! Her success at the actual competition was the icing on the cake (pun intended). Natalie won Best of Division at the Intermediate level, as well as multiple other awards.

One of the most insubordinate tunes she has ever penned has recently been released to radio as fellow country daredevil Kacey Musgraves’ latest single, “Follow Your Arrow,” co-written with Musgraves and McAnally. The song not only advocates marijuana use but also premarital sex and homosexuality. "When we wrote that, I never thought in a million years that it would be a single," Clark reflects. "It's a huge dream come true and tells me that you never know!"

Brandy Clark
NPR First Listen: Brandy Clark, '12 Stories'…Brandy Clark had been at the Music Row writing thing for a decade before her name started popping up on ballsy album cuts, chart-toppers and Kacey Musgraves’ pro-weed-and-same-sex-love ditty.

So here she is, halfway through her 30s, reintroducing herself with PR muscle, a jailhouse music video and an absolute knockout of an album. - nashvillescene

Watch InStyle's Behind-the-Scenes Video from Taylor’s InStyle Cover Shoot. While she may have paired her signature red lip with green Burberry Prorsum separates for their November cover, inside the issue, she showcases high-fashion runway pieces from Lanvin, Marchesa, and more. “It’s just incredible to see how much effort is put into these designer clothes, and getting to wear them is an honor, actually!” said the star, who credits Grace Kelly and Francoise Hardy as a few of her personal style icons
On her style: I like to have things that remind me of my fashion icons, like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Françoise Hardy. My favorite look these days is a good riding pant, those jodhpur things with the little knee pads, paired with a nice white oxford shirt.
What designers she is loving right now in InStyle US 2013?: Elie Saab is really dreamy, and Ralph Lauren. I like Ralph Lauren cashmere cable-knit fitted sweaters. I shop at a lot of vintage stores, and I love places like Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. I feel like they really get it right in terms of staples to wear every day.
What look makes her feel best in InStyle US 2013? I feel more confident when I have a red lip on. Right now I’m using Aqua Rouge No. 8 by Make Up For Ever. It has two sides to it- one side is a gloss, and one side is a lip stain.

COUNTRY GOSSIP

Nashville Lifestyles has released its list of the city’s 25 Most Beautiful People. The 2013 lineup includes Warner Bros. Records’ Sheryl Crow, Universal Music Group Nashville’s Luke Bryan and Kip Moore, and ABC-TV Nashville actor Charles Esten.

Miley Cyrus has bought a car for her dogs. The 'Wrecking Ball' singer splashed out on £250,000 on a new set of pet-friendly wheels for her five pampered pooches Happy, Bean, Floyd, Mary Jane and Penny Lane to ride around in.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Last week she bought a white Maserati Quattroporte and a red Porsche Cayenne for herself. "But she also splashed out £100k on a Range Rover Sport. The dogs are banned from her cars, but they basically own the Range Rover.

Leann Rimes' ex-husband was blindsided by her affair with Eddie Cibrian.

There have been a lot of changes in Kelly Clarkson’s life lately in relation to her wedding to Brandon Blackstock, who is Blake Shelton‘s manager and Reba McEntire‘s stepson. E! reports that the duo secured their marriage license in the Nashville area on Tuesday (Oct. 15). Clarkson and Blackstock showed up in person to obtain the document, as required by law.
The license is only valid for 30 days from the date it’s issued, so it wouldn’t shock us if the couple’s big day turned out to be this weekend?! The singer is said to be wearing a Temperley dress when she and Blackstock wed.
In fact, Kelly and Brandon may be married by the time her new album Wrapped In Red arrives on October 29.
Kelly Clarkson "Ties It Up"
Wedding
On Friday, she released the first single, >> "Underneath the Tree,"
Kelly's been telling everyone about how she can't wait to start a family with her fiance, who already has two children from his previous marriage (a boy and a girl, aged 12 and six, respectively).  But speaking to In Touch Weekly magazine, Kelly says she wants to double that number.  "I did not ever want kids but my priorities are changing because now I want a baby real bad -- a big, chunky baby. I want a girl!" Kelly says, adding, "We’re thinking maybe two.” "I’m not patient, so I already have names picked out for a boy or a girl, and what kind of diapers they’ll wear. It’s crazy! We’re very excited,” Kelly adds.
Stop Press: Wedding Belle:  "I'm officially Mrs. Blackstock," Kelly Clarkson tweeted, adding a picture of herself and Reba's stepson/Blake Shelton's manager Brandon Blackstock. "We got married yesterday (Sunday Oct 20th) at Blackberry Farms in TN, the most beautiful place ever!" - Photo

Being in the woods remains a must-do for Luke Bryan in those rare occasions where he can slip away. While in Colorado recently, Bryan did get the opportunity to go on a hunt, and came out a winner, bagging his very first Elk. “I went to Colorado, Elk hunting, and I got my first Elk ever," Bryan beams. "I had the opportunity to do it with a bow, which was fun.” Unfortulately for Bryan, touring season and hunting season run side-by-side, so he cherishes those days where he can find himself in the woods. "My hunting season is so busy right now," he says. "It’s just kind of whenever I can get out in the woods, I’ll try to get out there

While many veteran artists slammed Miley Cyrus for her scandalous MTV Video Music Awards performance, no less a music legend than Paul McCartney recently told Britain's Sky News that he wasn't offended by it at all.  Now, in a new interview, he claims that not only does he think that the young pop star's performance was good, but he boasts that he, too, can do Cyrus' signature dance move. Following a live performance on BBC Radio 2, host Jo Whiley asked Sir Paul to give his thoughts on Miley. "Disgusting!" he cried, and then, as the audience laughed, he added, "Of course I don't mean it.  I think it's ridiculous the way that everyone is [saying], 'Oh dear me, she shouldn't do that!'  I mean, it's not like we haven't seen it before!" The former Beatle then pointed out that Miley is simply doing what it takes to stand out in the very crowded pop music world.
