SONG #3:
"The Last One" - Lucy Zirins
Lucy Zirins, 21-year old singer-songwriter hails from the small town of Burnley, Lancashire. She combines a mix of original material with blues, soul, folk and gospel numbers in her set with influences drawn from country and jazz. She cites artists such as Eva Cassidy, Carol King, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones and Muddy Waters as her favourites (Blues Matters)
Lucy is fast making a name
for herself as a performer and songwriter on the live music scene.
Her family roots lie in
Cumbria and Latvia, Lucy Zirins born in 1992, made her stage debut in school as
a 9-year-old singer and actress with the lead role in Lynn Brittney’s nativity
play ‘Babooshka’. She picked up the guitar aged 12 after inheriting one from
her late uncle and began songwriting early on.
With visits to Italy and
France under her belt by the time she was 18 years old, Lucy began gigging solo
at just 16.
Lovely Lucy |
In 2010 Lucy was chosen as
one of the “Class of 2010”
singer-songwriters by PRS for Music
and featured in a high profile event in London set up to recognise and support
the UK’s most promising young talent.
Having recorded her first EP
at 16, and following with another soon after, Lucy’s debut album “Chasing Clocks” is the result of a
long period of hard work.
The album’s 12 tracks were all written and arranged
by Lucy herself, including the cello parts for 4 of the tracks on the album,
which she wrote and scored. The majority of the album was recorded live with
some of the country's finest musicians including B.J.Cole (Pedal Steel) and
Richard Causon (keyboards; Tom Jones, Ryan Adams).
The album was produced by
long time mentor and friend Michael Messer, who Lucy met at the tender age of
15 when chosen by the European Blues Association to receive the Sam Mitchell
Scholarship for slide guitar, receiving a week’s tuition under his watchful
eye. She returned the following year on the John Jackson Scholarship. They made
the bold decision together to record the album in an analogue environment at
Liam Watson’s (co-producer) Toe Rag Studios, recording the majority of the
album live with minimal overdubbing.
Embraced by many musical
scenes, reflecting the mix of genres within her songwriting and performance, in
2013 Lucy was nominated for 3 awards at the British Blues Awards and won ‘Young Artist of the Year’.

Reviews:
“A beautifully produced debut album... Modern folk-tinged country that
perfectly suits the singer’s voice...In Zirins’ voice there’s a delicacy mixed
with strength and an authentic country twang. Her delivery is impeccable and
well judged for one so young” - R2 (Rock ‘n’ Reel Magazine 3/5 stars)
“Lucy’s songwriting displays
an astonishing maturity and confidence which belie her youth... this is an
album of considerable maturity from a young artist who is clearly going places”

SONG #4:
"Sunflower Lady" - Suzanna
Shore
Genre:
Country/Rockabilly Current Location:
Torquay
It's not unusual
for someone to pick up the guitar and try to write a few songs, but to wait
until you are in your 40's before even learning to play the instrument and then
to write a whole album in a few months is, perhaps, a bit more impressive. But
then, Suzanna Shore (Photo), has never done things the conventional way. Although an avid
"amateur" singer in her teens, Suzanna first started taking music
more seriously as a singer on the south coast circuit as she started a new
chapter in her life. However, while she enjoyed singing the songs of her
teenage heroes, she knew she had her own stories to sing about and had to find
a way of getting them out. In November 2011 a bout of viral laryngitis and an
enforced lay off from singing proved a blessing in disguise as she turned to
long-term colleague and music producer Steve Davis to fill the time with guitar
lessons and then, at last, she began to write. Just two months later, the songs
started to flow. "Dreams" was followed by the autobiographical and
very personal "Sunflower Lady". Years of pent up emotions very
quickly poured out into heartfelt lyrics set to memorably tunes.... Read more UKcountryradio.com Artist Page
A year on from
the release of SUNFLOWER LADY has sadly seen Suzanna lose her mother which
understandly has had a big effect on her and production of her second CD has
therefore been put on hold. Apparently sales of Sunflower Lady are growing with
a few radio stations on the continent play tracks from the album weekly and 2
tracks were played on BBC Introducing. She has received postive feedback from
those she has perform her songs too with track 6 on the set titled
"Life" resonanting with lots of folk.
Original
released on 27th March 2013 the 11 track 41 minute SUNFLOWER LADY (Dogleg
Records) set is available on Amazon UK (£7.49), UK iTunes (£5.99) or directly from

SONG #5:
"In Cold Blood" - Tom Manche
(written by Wayne Jacobs)
(written by Wayne Jacobs)
(Wayne Jacobs
Rank #1 Country / Reggae / Singer/Songwriter Erith, UK
Wayne Jacobs is an award-winning professional singer
songwriter. While a teenager in the 1980s, Wayne went to night school for three
and a half years where he was taught by a folk singer called Pauline. He wrote
a couple of songs, one for his mum and another called One Way Ticket. Pauline
said Wayne had good potential as a songwriter. While his children grew up,
Wayne put his guitar away. But, over the last ten years, he's been playing and
writing again. For his 40th birthday, Wayne's wife Joanna gave him his first
Fender Squire electric guitar. Wayne has been happily married for 27 years. His
daughter Gemma, 26, and son Jamie, 27, are both civil servants.....Read more UKcountryradio.com Artist Page
in 2013, Wayne
was injured in a motorcycle accident. While sitting in his armchair feeling
sorry for himself, he had an idea to write a song about a homeless man in
Nashville. After Googling the subject, he came across a news story from 2012 in
which a man with a grudge against homeless people, drove around in the dead of
night, got out of his truck, put a gun against the head of a homeless man
sitting on a public bench, and shot him in cold blood. This inspired Wayne to
write his next song, "In Cold Blood".
In the dead of night, the devil came
holding a loaded gun / My homeless friend, on the edge of heaven, only the good
die young/
My homeless friend was sitting on a
bench, in downtown Tennessee/ In the wrong place at the wrong time, it's as bad
as bad can be/ at 3 am a cold hearted man, comes out of a truck in mud, with a
single bullet straight to the head, he shot him in cold blood.

Wayne on winning our Award. His winning song “I Want My Daddy” contained all
the key ingredients of a fantastic country song – lyrics based on a true story,
coming from the heart, which make you think. Wayne has also invested heavily in
the production of his song to ensure a strong vocal and musical delivery of the
finished track"
According to a
June post on Facebook Wayne has been asked by the BBC The Voice to audition
