New To You: Smithfield To Make Grand Ole Opry Debut

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  (April 21, 2016)— Emerging duo Smithfield will have the honor of making their Grand Ole Opry debut on Saturday, May 7th. This career milestone follows the CMT world premiere of their lead-off single “Good Ol’ Days” from their self-titled EP.

"We are incredibly honored to be asked to debut on the Grand Ole Opry. It's a dream come true to know that we will be stepping into the circle that so many legends have stepped into. We are looking forward to a very special night on the most famous stage in country music.”- Smithfield

Smithfield is the combined forces of Trey Smith and Jennifer Fiedler who are slated to perform their new single “Good Ol’ Days” along with powerful ballad “Hey Whiskey” on the coveted Opry stage.

The Texas natives will take over the Opry’s Twitter to share behind-the-scenes updates from their debut.

After making the move to Nashville in 2012, the duo quickly began honing their sound, writing and recording.

The recent release of their eight-track EP led them to garner national media attention by highly respected outlets including Huffington Post and People.com
("7 New Country Acts You Should Check Out" article) when the duo found themselves in good company, among new artists such as Brooke Eden, Jon Langston, Courtney Cole & more.

After going to Nashville the duo had been going in the right direction but hit major set-backs with creating and releasing their first EP. “We landed a record deal (January 2014) that pushed us to write for our first record for a year. Then when the label folded, we were on our own to make the EP”, Jennifer said.

As independent artists they reached out to their core fans using the crowd-funding Kickstarter project to help raise $10,000.
They wrote: “With your help and belief in us and our music, we can make an awesome music project that has unlimited potential!
The project proved a success when 64 backers pledged $11,300 to help bring it to life.

“We definitely wanna make this record a little more edgy,” Fiedler told the Shotgun Seat. “The focal point will be the harmonies, and we really wanna accentuate that and cut good songs and do fun songs. “We also have a few songs that are deeper,” said Jennifer she continued. “I like having the song that the 70-year-old is gonna relate to and cry and love, and then having the song that the 15-year-old is gonna love and dance to, so we wanna be able to reach a wide range of audiences. I think this record will do that; it’ll appeal to all ages.”

There is a little bit of something for everyone on this EP, but Smithfield is smart enough as writers to make everything come together and flow as one cohesive project as the catchy hooks and crisp harmonies elevate to be the key factors of defining them - One Stop Country (EP Review)

country sound that is as different as it is compelling.

The duo’s vocals blend perfectly together and songwriting showcases their musical chemistry, having co-written every song on the eight-track EP.
  • Having grown up together, their live show exudes a genuine and natural affinity that has led them to open for established artists including Eric Paslay, Scotty McCreery, Jana Kramer, Dustin Lynch and Craig Campbell. SmithField was founded in 2011 with a dream as big as their home state of Texas.
  • Comprised of vocalists Trey and Jennifer (who were lifelong friends before they started making music together) took the stage by storm with their memorable music and stunning harmonies. Having grown up together, their on-stage chemistry is undeniably genuine and natural. After more than a year of performing together, the duo headed to Nashville (2012) to start a new chapter in their musical career.
  • Jennifer and Trey began their musical journeys at a young age. As a little girl, Jennifer and her family would go to Opry’s in Texas, which is where her love for country music began. After spending her whole life performing, it wasn’t until she went to college that she had started writing music and learning about the business and what kind of artist she wanted to be.
  • When Trey was younger, his dad used to play the guitar and sing to him and his sister, which is where his interest in music started. Years later, Trey discovered the Goo Goo Dolls and connected with the way Johnny Rzeznik wrote songs. It was also in Trey’s college years that he fronted a rock band, which has helped him formulate plans and ideas for the success of SmithField.
  • After spending a lot of their childhood days together and then going their separate ways for college, Trey messaged Jennifer on Facebook about becoming a country duo (circa 2011). Jennifer was hesitant at first because of having her own plans but decided to hook up with long-time family friend and pursue the music together.
  • SmithField released their single, "Good Ol' Days." The upbeat anthem was slated as being “the perfect way to end summer” which led into their EP.
