Now all we need is a little water, a little sunshine, and a whole lotta love.
Corn like you've never seen it before. π½ A new musical comedy comes to Broadway #getshucked
On Feb 23, 2023 BroadwayWorld TV shared exclusive monochrome video footage of the song 'Maybe Love' the first song from SHUCKED written and performed by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.
A ten-time GRAMMY nominee and CMA Awards “Song of the Year” recipient, Brandy Clark is one of her generation’s most respected and celebrated songwriters and musicians. Her songs include Kacey Musgraves’ “Follow Your Arrow,” Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart,” The Band Perry’s “Better Dig Two” and Hailey Whitter’s “Ten Year Town.” Her past two solo albums—2013’s 12 Stories and 2016’s Big Day in a Small Town—each garnered immense critical acclaim landing on “Best of the Year” lists at New York Magazine, Billboard, NPR Music, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, etc. NPR Music’s Ann Powers calls her, “a storyteller of the highest caliber,” while Rolling Stone’s Will Hermes declares, “a country visionary…the consolation of a beautiful voice delivering a well-built song, cold truth rising from it like fog off dry ice.”
McAnally’s credits are endless having
written and produced for the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban,
Kelsea Ballerini and others was named Songwriter of the Year by the Academy of
Country Music in 2014.
Shucked, with book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn, music and lyrics by Clark and McAnally and direction by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, is the hilarious and heartfelt tale of what happens when small town meets the big city, the importance of community, and, of course... corn.

"Friends" from Shucked: A New Musical Comedy performed by Brandy Clark & Shane McAnally published on March 1, 2023
“We just want people to walk away feeling the effects of something bigger than what they think they saw, which is about inclusion, which is about the state of our world, and how love can prevail, and although that's a really simple and corny message, it's true” - Shane McAnally
Additionally, on March 8, 2023 Shucked Broadway previewed and published "Woman of the World" from the musical comedy performed by Caroline Innerbichler (Maizy) in honour of #InternationalWomensDay. You can watch it HERE.

Pioneer Theatre Company (PTC), Salt Lake
City’s fully professional regional theatre, announced its 2022-2023 season,
which includes the world premiere of a new Broadway musical, SHUCKED
Shucked is the new musical comedy from some of the hottest names on Broadway,
featuring a book by Tony Award®-winner
ROBERT HORN (Tootsie), and a score written by Grammy Award®-winner SHANE MCANALLY
and ten-time Grammy Award®-nominee
BRANDY CLARK. It is directed by Tony Award®-winner JACK O’BRIEN (Hairspray).
“This is a hilarious musical fable about an unlikely hero, an
unscrupulous con man, and an unforgettable battle for the heart and soil of a
small town,” said PTC Artistic Director KAREN AZENBERG. “This
outrageously funny new musical comedy comes from some of the most awarded and
respected talent on Broadway, and it’s something no one else in the country
will have a chance to see before PTC patrons.” Shucked premiered at PTC October
28 through November 12, 2022.
“Shucked,” will open on Broadway in spring 2023.
The show played at the Nederlander Theatre and preview
performances began on March 8, 2023, ahead of opening night on April 4, 2023.
Here’s the logline: “What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. ‘Shucked’ is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life.”
Horn, Clark and McAnally refer to “Shucked” as a “passion project.”
“There was something about this idea, this style of humor and
this music, that kept this little engine going,” the trio said in a statement.
“What will be on stage at the Nederlander is a story about how we all have the
gift of heroism inside us, and about learning to open our hearts to those who
are different than us so that growth can happen… and of course, about corn…
because the basic thing that unity and acceptance need for survival, is a
kernel of truth.”
The musical comedy will star John Behlmann (“Tootsie”), Kevin Cahoon (“The Who’s Tommy”), Andrew Durand (“Head Over Heels”), Caroline Innerbichler (“Frozen” North American Tour), Ashley D. Kelley (“Bella: An American Tall Tale”) and Alex Newell (“Once On This Island”). Additional casting is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
