Country Billboard Chart News February 21, 2013

With the recent TV exposure from the 55th Annual Grammy Awards saw Mumford & Sons who won Album of the Year (Feb 10) as the biggest gainers as they made a grammy-fueled return to No. 1 on Top Billboard Top 200. As benefitting were Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, The Lumineers who also received Grammy bumps in the Top 10.
Mumford & Sons' "Babel" sold 184,957 copies up a massive 242% on the previous week to reach a total of 1,921,852.
Sale pricing by the iTunes Store -- for Valentine's Day -- helped push "Babel's" sales even bigger than expected. "Babel" was marked down to $6.99 for a limited time by iTunes and was featured in an email promotion campaign to its customers. Of the 184,957 copies the album scored a 260% gain in download sales -- moving from 28,000 to 101,000 for the week. (The largest digital week for a non-debuting album since the week after Christmas, when Taylor Swift's "Red" sold 131,000 downloads.)

Taylor Swift, who opened the Grammys with a circus themed "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," rose 12-4 with RED (71,953 ; up 106%). Her set which has now reached 3,435,748 sales in America alone, also gained thanks to hefty promotion by Target stores. The retailer ran a TV commercial during the Grammys, touting its exclusive version of "Red." Additionally, it was featured in a Target weekly circular ad. Of "Red's" sales the previous week, a whopping 86% were attributed to physical albums.
Recently her worldwide sales for “Red” had reached a total of 4,671,000.

In her 17th week on the chart Taylor’s RED swapped places on the Billboard Country Chart with last weeks No.1 TWO LANES OF FREEDOM from Tim McGraw. In the second retail week it sold 46,598, down 56%, to reach a 2-week tally of 153,313 for the now Big Machine artist.
McGraw’s final Curb album (of original material) “Emotional Traffic” sold 297,000 over the course of 56 weeks on the charts.

Hunter Hayes’ big Grammy Award debut and 6 ACM Award nominations resulted in a bounce on the Top 200 moving 27-17 and 5-3 on the Country chart. His sales of his self-titled album were 33,428, up 80% to reach 635,116. Sales of his single “Wanted” gained him No.1 slots on Hot Country Songs and the Billboard Country Digital Chart.
Country Group Grammy Winners Little Big Town saw their album TORNADO move up on the charts (24,610; up 33%). With 725,844 copies sold to date it is fast heading to become the band’s best-selling album.
Carrie Underwood’s Grammy Award victory in the country category for her “Blown Away” single saw sales for the album go up 70% (23,802 sold; 1,308,396 total) in her 42nd chart week, moving 8-6 on the country chart.

The Zac Brown Band, Grammy Winners for Best Country Album drew a 116% increase for their album UNCAGED (16,814 sales; 786,378 total) to move back into the Top 10 on the country placings. Brown also contributed to  the Levon Helm tribute on the live award show.

Eclectic country/rockers Connor Christian & Southern Gothic garner their first national chart ink with NEW HOMETOWN (Vintage Earth). It drew double Hot Shot Debut applause, opening atop Heatseekers and at No. 17 on Top Country Albums.
In it’s first week at retail it sold 4,445 copies to land at No.127 on the Top 200 Bilboard chart.
Cited as being “on the verge” in Billboard’s 2012 “Best Bets” live entertainment spotlight (Jan. 21, 2012), Christian’s band is touring in support of the album’s lead single, “Sheets Down,” which premiered Jan. 16 on CMT.com.
The band comprises of: Christian (vocals, guitar, keys, harmonica), Joe Abramson (bass, vocals), Shawn Thacker (drums, vocals), Jeff Spirko (guitar, fiddle, banjo, piano, mandolin, vocals) and  Elena Martin (fiddle, keys, mandolin, vocals)
Released on Feb 12, 2013 on Rocket Science / Vintage Earth Records CCSG’s “New Hometown” is a winded album with 18 tracks (1:16:33)  but “New Hometown” seems to reinforce the notion that more isn’t always better writes NashvilleCountryClub.com

Extract: “New Hometown” attempts to blend what sounds like southern rock, gospel and country into a cohesive album. It’s hard to put a label on exactly what feel the album takes on. This can often be a good thing, meaning an album has diversity or mixes genres well, but in the case of “New Hometown,” the components don’t quite come together.
There is no lack of musical talent within the album. Christian’s voice has a raspy quality that fits well into most of the songs. The hoarse tone adds emotion the louder Christian sings, and is refreshing to hear from the type of music played on the album.
The musicianship is also one of the better elements of the album. Songs like “Fiddler” display some truly exceptional skills. The band has no lack of talent, which makes it difficult to believe that on an album with 18 tracks, very few are actually good songs.......Equal parts modern troubadour, back road poet and outlaw rocker, Connor Christian & Southern Gothic creates gritty, soulful songs of experience revealing solace in hardship, hope in destitution, and a dustbowl sensibility. Their powerful music draws on influences ranging from Ryan Adams, G. Love, and Counting Crows to The Band and Tumbleweed Connection-era Elton John, and makes a heartfelt statem...ent found at the crossroads of Roots Rock and Americana.

AOL’s The Boot writes: The upbeat, Cajun-flavored romp is part of an eclectic, 18-song track list that mixes each of the five bandmate's roots, which span from Rome, Ga., to Los Angeles to Russia.
"We've traveled the world," lead singer Connor Christian explains. "We find the people, the stories -- there's always something familiar, no matter where we go. So when we get to play songs that are shaped by those people and those places, somehow it always feels like we are home, no matter where we are."
During the Atlanta, Ga., based band's travels, they have shared the stage with country acts such as the Zac Brown Band, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Big & Rich and Gloriana, just to name a few.

Neither Kelly Willis or hubby Bruce Robison had made a record since 2008. The singer/songwriters both took time out from touring and the studio recording to raise children. They have collaborated on each another's projects before but “Cheater's Game” marks their first as a duo.
The album produced by Brad Jones was recorded in Nashville with a small band in an “intimate, retro, '70s style; the album is warm, inviting, and features a seamless meld of the duo's voices”.
The 13-song offering features seven new Robison tunes and the remainder is made up of songs by some contemporary songwriters, and a couple from Nashville legends (Hayes Carll, Dave Alvin and Robert Earl Keen)

Review:
Cheater's Game is an excellent welcome back. It's organic, relaxed, unforced approach is deceptively high in performance skill, yet resonates with an emotional depth that rings true throughout. The listener can only hope they do this again soon
Its described on Amazon as:
The first 'really must buy' CD of 2013 in the alt-country/Americana genre”.....Cheater’s Game is quiet and reflective, which is not to suggest “boring,” by any means. It covers a broad spectrum of emotions and styles, from the touching title tune to the snappy “Border Radio” and the aching “Dreamin’,” written by Bruce and Miles Zuniga of Fastball, which might remind a certain generation of The Everly Brothers. The top cut comes with Hayes Carll’s “Long Way Home,” a finely detailed, compassionate journey through a broken soul.

On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart - which blends:
a) All-format airplay, as monitored by BDS  b) Sales, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and c) Streaming, according to BDS it results in:

Hunter Hayes with “Wanted” stays at No.1 in its second straight (and third cumulative) week at the summit since its release in 2012.

The addition of U.S. YouTube data shuffled the top 10 on Hot Country Songs, probably due to fans following up on artists who performed at the recent Grammy awards. YouTube’s introduction into the streaming mix also lifts Taylor Swift’sWe Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” 14-9. That track began a 10-week run atop the chart dated Oct. 20, 2012, the same issue the chart rankings converted from the core country radio audience to a hybrid mix of digital, streaming and an expanded Nielsen BDS-monitored radio panel.

2013 GRAMMY Awards Fashion

2013 GRAMMY Awards Fashion

CBS was very clear about this year’s 55th Annual Grammy Awards. They didn’t want to see any exposed breasts, no nipple slips, no exposed derrieres, no exposed anything’s. They just want a good, clean show!
An email leaked and posted to Deadline shows CBS’s “wardrobe advisory” for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. In it, network heads ban exposed female breasts, buttocks, and genitals, and other curiosities like organization-boosting lapel pins.
Read more at www.inquisitr.com
Extract: CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe. Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure

So who would come close to defy the 2013 Grammy dress code?
Katy Perry, in a floor-length Gucci gown, just about held the conduct code requiring that breasts would be “adequately covered”.
A risqué RiRi showed off her nipple rings through a stunning custom red Alaia dress.
Who hit a sartorial high and managed to walk the tricksy line of sass without the crass?
Who went all-out on the beauty front and who was the Grammys beauty queen?

Carrie Underwood - nominated for two Grammy awards was one of the first celebrities to hit the red carpet at the Los Angeles Staples Center. She wore a black, strapless Roberto Cavalli gown (photo) and the lace and embroidered, curve-hugging provided an elegant mermaid silhouette look. Her sweetheart neckline was a perfect cut to show off her 381-carat diamond necklace from Johnathon Arndt. Yes you hardly need many accessories when you’re wearing a $31 million necklace!

She paired the look with sculpted tumbling curls and a Swarovski black satin hexagon “Gala” box clutch with white crystal border
Carrie’s necklace featured 381 carats of oval, pear, marquis and round brilliant white diamonds, according to a press release from the jeweller. The amazing necklace was one of the most talked about pieces of jewelry during the awards ceremony. The 29-year-old “Blown Away” singer told E! news (quote via People): “It’s heavy on my soul,” ...“It’s 381 carats of gorgeousness. I’m afraid someone is going to tackle me and steal it.”It’s worth more than me,” she added humorously.
No Mike Fisher hockey tackle was required on the night though! Forbes recently named Carrie the second highest-earning ‘American Idol’ star, as she made $5 million between May 2011 and May 2012. Add hubby’s Mike Fisher’s hockey salary of $4 million and the two would have to work for three-plus years to pay for it if it went astray!

Taylor Swift - Nominated for three awards, she took to the red carpet in a Greek goddess-like gown - Photo - Photo
The angelic “Begin Again” country singer looked sophisticated and sexy in a J. Lance is available in several colours at Jimmy Choo/ Jimmy Choo UK and mirrored silver at Net-A-Porter
Taylor kept true to her latest fashion colour obsession of white which she donned at People’s Choice Awards, Principales Music Awards, and the NRJ Music Awards. The gown’s plunging neckline was softened with accordion pleats and a metallic beaded bodice.

Other accessories included understated jewels with Lorraine Schwartz yellow diamond earrings, Ofira ring and Jaimin with Lorraine Schwartz bracelet. She choose a neutral makeup, with a tad of edgy eyeliner (Taylor Hair / Make-up)
After her circus-themed (and Harry Styles-dissing) rendition of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Miss Swift stayed in the audience. Who was by the single star's side for the spirited evening of fangirl-dom? No it wasn't Swift's usual high-profile gal pals but, a source revealed to Us Weekly it was Claire Waterman (photo) the daughter of celeb jewelry designer Cathy Waterman
The 23-year-old Tay perfected a new expression: Number One fan sing-along face! After opening the big show:

Miranda Lambert – The Grammy Best Country album nominee and reigning x3 CMA vocalist graced the carpet in a sexy black gown. Like Carrie Underwood she chose a black number with a Roberto Cavalli design - Photo

Later for her Grammy performance she changed into a short sequinned number, whilst upping the “sexy” it was less flattering than her classy gown.

Faith Hill – A Grammy Presenter, she wore a stunning knee-length black dress.

Other stars have gone with clear trays like Invisalign to correct their teeth.
As a celeb Faith has to work hard for beauty and maintains effortless perfection. For her it’s never too late to get annoying and uncomfortable dental problems fixed which she may have overlooked during the teen years!

Carly revealed that she experienced a Princess moment in her Cavalli frock. The 'Call Me Maybe' singer explained "I’m such a girl sometimes. I tried on eight different dresses until I knew. I’m very lucky and Riccardo Tisci is so generous and he’s such a genius. He sent sketches and different coloured sequins across and for me, with my hair colour it really works; it’s exactly the same shade as my eyes.”
It was certainly a head-turner, some quarters referenced it as a “sparkly dinosaur”, and others applauded her for bringing the fun to the Grammys. Adding a sultry element to the dress was a thigh-grazing slit that showed just the right amount of skin.
The singer accessorized with matching green strappy sandals and a box clutch, also by Givenchy. In addition to a bevy of rings, the look was finished with gilded nails, a moody red lip colour and face-framing strands of the singer’s famous red locks - Photo

Jenna Jameson – The “actress” / “Adult star” Jameson wore a fully covered highly respectable floor-length long-sleeved gold brocade gown. Shock?! Mmmm maybe not! The CBS censors could rest peacefully, as Jenna with her blonde Miley/P!nk weave kept all of her lady bits completely covered in the demure outfit - Photo.
Rather baffling as to why she attends the Grammys I’m sure she not a vocal coach and has in the past been known for alternative oral skills. The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco also attended the awards!
With retired Mexican American mixed martial artist, former Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz a UFC Hall of Famer (Ultimate Fighting Championship) by Jenna’s side I can only assume they are a LA celeb couple. The couple have taken everything back regarding their domestic violence case and Jenna explains that "everybody makes mistakes." Jenna is now the proud mother of 3 year old twins, Jesse Jameson and Journey Jette, (Photo) and a loyal wife to Tito Ortiz and takes family seriously.
Back in April 26, 2010, Ortiz was arrested for felony domestic violence at the couple's Huntington Beach, California home. This was amid accusations by both parties against each other, with Ortiz accusing Jameson of being erratic and addicted to OxyContin, while she alleged that he was abusive.

Jennifer Lopez – Attending the 55th Annual Grammy Awards (along with Pitbull) to present Adele with her award, Jennifer pushed the limits of the 2013 Grammy Awards tightened dress code. She virtually wore only half of a gown with her BEYOND SEKSI Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 design; an asymmetrical wonder that exposed her entire (perfectly toned) right pin, that Angelina Jolie leg jut just won’t go away (thankfully) - a whole lotta toned leg with an AJ impression!

Too leggy or Grammys-appropriate glam? - Fashion pic - Photo
It was “a little shoulder and a little leg,” as JLo described it on the red carpet. The other flash came with her sky-high, metallic-accented heels and a matching Jimmy Choo ‘Charlize’ envelope clutch and she wore Tom Ford ankle-wrap platform sandals.
These shoes are from the Spring 2013 collection featuring black snakeskin and brass ankle-cuff. They’re available online in coral snakeskin at Neiman Marcus
She accessorized with Norman Silverman Diamond stud earrings, white and yellow diamonds bracelets and diamond rings. A high top knot, a bronze glow and dagger-shaped nails that were overlaid with gold leafing completed the look.

Jennifer Lopez was with her boyfriend Casper Smart, in the Grammy audience sitting alongside Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban!

What could they possibly be talking about?
Was it just “Idol” talk with the former 2012 judge Jennifer making some “smart” moves gettin’ the latest “Lo-down” happenings on the America talent show from Mr.Urban? Only “Kidding”?

Jennifer Lopez’s Grammy through-the-years look:
February 24, 1999: sequined gold mini-dress / February 23, 2000: plunging Versace gown
January 31, 2010: curve-hugging Versace dress / February 13, 2011: leg-baring Emilio Pucci mini-dress

Kate PiersonThe red-headed 64-year-old singer outfit was described by Yahoo! as: “Remember that woman from the B-52s who used to dance around in wacky outfits to songs like "Love Shack"? Well, the now Kate Pierson is still doing it ... but these days, the looks are less flattering and more frightening. The witchy shoes, sequined purple dress, and shocking pink hair would have been better suited for a costume party than the Grammys!- Photo  Nuff said?!

Joan Osborne - Arrived at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in a lemon full-length gown - Photo

Kaley Cuoco – A Big Bang Theory’ actress and Pop Vocal Album co-presenter with Keith Urban (photo) sported a rock ‘n roll style look with an intricately embroidered black and gold Amen jacket that she paired with a white tee and sexy leather pants.
The actress accessorized with delicate layered gold necklaces and a gold and black Stark ‘Brilliance’ clutch.

Katy Perry – The ‘Wide Awake’ songstress She went with a head-turning style quotient with this minty-fresh design from Gucci’s Resort 2013 collection – Fashion Pic - Photo - * Photo - Hair / make up
The super-tight, green dress featured a heavily embellished keyhole detail that was quite gaping.
Katy walked the Grammy red carpet with her good pal Allison Williams (aka Marnie from Girls) and later joined boyfriend John Mayer, and Williams met up with boyfriend Ricky Van Veen inside the show. Perry, 28, also had major ice to show at the Grammys. She was spotted with a large oval gold and green Chalcedony ring created by Jorge Adeler.
Katy didn't exactly break the rules, she sure got CBS executives hot under the collar with the plunging green gown. Even Elton John couldn't resist a gawp and he wasn’t the only one! Ellen DeGeneres was more aware of her fashion choice than anyone. "Here I am taking a tasteful glance at Katy Perry's dress," the talk show host tweeted during music's biggest night Feb. 10, along with a picture of herself, mouth agape, posing with Perry and DeGeneres' wife, Portia de Rossi.

Kelly Rowland – The 32-year old, singer fresh off her Super Bowl performance with her former Destiny’s Child members arrived rocking the Grammy red carpet in a Georges Chakra Couture mermaid-style gown, with geometric mesh panels - Fashion Pic
As one of the evening’s presenters she too pushed the Grammys dress sense envelope with an ever-so-slightly more conservative runway version.
Huge emerald rings and bold matching earrings from Lorraine Schwartz, along with a sleek low updo and blunt bang, completed the look - Photo

Gotye and Kimbra - The New Zealand-born singer, who made a name for herself on the Gotye mega hit – nominated for Record of the Year – showed up to the awards show in a Jaime Lee Major sheer number with gold balls affixed to it and lots and lots of baby blue tulle. Gotye, meanwhile, kept it simple in a Jack London suit and skinny tie.
Kimbra should be singing “Somebody That I Used to Know” to her stylist?

Kelly Osbourne - Wore her purple mane in a sleek ponytail enhanced by uber-long extensions. My Little Pony, eat yer heart out!
Natasha Bedingfield – Wore a flowing red gown on the Grammy carpet - Photo

Nicole Kidman - Was the ‘plus one’ to her hubby Keith Urban. Bringing the Hollywood touch she picked out a Vera Wang dress that was lovely on her statuesque frame - Photo
The soft metallic gown featured a delicate lacy overlay, as it flaunted the very-familiar sheer trend from the mid-thigh down.

Fred Leighton jewels, along with straight hair and radiant nude makeup completed her look.
Keith, the “American Idol” judge wore a black T-shirt, blazer, skinny jeans, and boots, which he described as being designed by “Rick Owens and a few other things”.

Rihanna – The Multiple nominee arrived and completely stunned as the “ultimate lady in red” at the 55th Grammys.
This was Grade A from Ri Ri who made quite a statement in a custom-made candy-apple-coloured, custom dress by Azzedine Alaia gown with a high neckline and enough sheer panelling to let her flaunt her sexy side. The “Diamonds” singer said the showstopper was her first choice, explaining, “I like the A-line.” The diaphanous A-line design had a long train flowed along the red carpet and had a criss-cross detail in the front that continued at the back. The look was slightly see-through and the 24-year old Barbadian beauty looked unbelievable. She wore a 100 carat diamond and platinum Serepentine bracelet made by Neil Lane jewelry. The “Stay” singer complimented the bracelet with ruby serpent rings. They were both worth $2 million. Pretty ombre curls and a red lippie completed a Grammy winning red carpet show - Photo - Photo - Hair / Make Up

Rocsi Diaz – The American television personality wore 5th & Mercer White Jumpsuit and displayed cute mini music notes on her - Photo - Photo
Solange Knowles - Sister of Beyoncé, the singer donned a shiny and slinky, emerald-green Ralph & Russo Couture gown with exaggerated shoulders and thigh-high slits. She paired it with neon orange (and studded!) heels and sported a mega afro do
Sylar Grey – She arrived wearing a sparkly full length red gown - Photo

Men’s Grammy Fashion
Al Walser – The Singer, songwriter, DJ and producer sums up his bizarre Grammy outfit by saying, "I come from outer space. I come from Liechtenstein, nobody knows where it is... the nomination is really like a moon landing for me."
Walser earned a controversial nomination for his song, "I Can't Live Without You," through the frequent use social media and by targeting Grammy voters. During the awards show, Walser found himself up against Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. The Grammy nom was like a moon landing for Al who went the extra space mile >> YouTube

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran - The red-haired English singer and soon-to-be support for Taylor Swift’s RED Tour, gave a grand performance on Grammy stage, but NOT so much on the red carpet donning a poorly tailored Burberry navy tuxedo with a two-toned notch lapel and the footwear was a let down.

Justin Timberlake - Teamed his black suit with matching black and white shoes - Photo
Timberlake, who hasn’t released an album in nearly seven years, performed his new single ‘Suit and Tie’ with Jay-Z before premiering another new song, ‘Pusher Love Girl’, on Sunday night at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
His biggest fan in the crowd was his wife, Jessica Biel. Shunning the daring dress code associated with the event, Mrs Timberlake wore a beautiful Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2013 gown - WireImage.
The navy one-sleeve gown was styled with black Casadei ‘Blade’ t-bar sandals and gorgeous statement earrings to give an overall classic, refined and elegant look.
Myspace investor Justin Timberlake is helping the social networking site revamp. He has taken a "major role" in the new direction of Myspace after it emerged he was one of those behind a $35m deal for the ailing social network. The singer turned actor, who starred as Facebook investor Sean Parker in the Hollywood hit The Social Network, took a stake in Myspace along with the online advertising company, Specific Media. - https://new.myspace.com/
