The 60th Annual Grammy
Awards
ceremony was held on January 28, 2018 broadcast live on The CBS network from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
It
marked the first time since 2003 that the ceremony was held outside Los Angeles
(where the Staples Center had been the home of the Grammys since 2004). James
Corden returned as host.
The
Grammys ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of
the eligibility year, which
ran from October 1, 2016 to September
30, 2017.
SUNDAY night's (Jan 28) GRAMMY telecast on CBS-TV dominated the evening's TV ratings
battle, but still lost viewers on a year-to-year basis.
Among adults in the key, 18-49 demo, the multi-genre music awards show delivered 19.8 million viewers and a 5.9 rating, marking a 24% decrease from the 2017 GRAMMYS, which made Sunday's show the least-watched GRAMMY telecast since 2009, according to ZAP2IT.

During
the pre-telecast event, Reba McEntire was awarded Best
Roots Gospel Album for her project SING
IT NOW: SONGS OF FAITH & HOPE. Sharing that she planned to “give it
back to God,” the country icon was eternally grateful for the reception her
album received. “Our job in the
entertainment business is to heal hearts. That’s what God put me on this earth
for, I know it is, with the music, and to help other people. Music is so
healing,” she said. Also
the “Sing It Now” singer gave mention to the recent loss of Bill Hearn, who was
the head of the Capitol Christian Music Group record label that signed on to
release Reba’s spiritual album. He passed away in December following a battle
with cancer.
Reba
has been nominated 15 times for a Grammy and won three. Her other wins were for
Best Country Vocal Performance, Female for Whoever's
In New England at the 29th Annual GRAMMY Awards (1986) and Best Country
Vocal Collaboration for Does He Love You
(Reba McEntire & Linda Davis) at the 36th Annual GRAMMY Awards (1993)
Jason Isbell took home two awards,

He
has been nominated 4 times and won the lot! At the 58th Annual Grammy Awards (2015)
he bagged Best American Roots Song for "24 Frames" and Best Americana Album for SOMETHING MORE THAN

Jason Isbell with wife Amanda Shires |
The Americana Music Association℠ wished to congratulate Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on their big GRAMMY® win in the Best Americana Album category for The Nashville Sound. Isbell himself won for Best American Roots Song with the group's LP highlight, "If We Were Vampires".
They also wished to congratulate Emmylou Harris who will be honored with a Special Merit Lifetime Achievement Award by The Recording Academy later this summer following a touching tribute to the late Tom Petty during last night's ceremony with multi-GRAMMY® winner Chris Stapleton, which you can view >> here.
Additional winners in the American Roots field include Alabama Shakes ("Killer Diller Blues") for Best American Roots Performance; Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo' ( TajMo) for Best Contemporary Blues Album; The Infamous Stringdusters ( Laws of Gravity) for Best Bluegrass Album; Aimee Man ( Mental Illness) for Best Folk Album; The Rolling Stones ( Blue & Lonesome) for Best Traditional Blues Album; and the Lost Bayou Ramblers, who took home the GRAMMY® for Best Regional Roots Music Album with Kalenda.
Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar stole the show, and most
of the awards, at the 2018 Grammys. He won
6 trophies including 24k Magic which
won Album of the Year and Record Of The Year with "That's
What I Like" snagging Song
Of The Year.
Mars
provided the night's big upset, taking the album of the year trophy that most
critics assumed would go to Lamar's rap tour de force, Damn.
Bruno
Mars grabs (nearly) all the Grammys - but where were the women? BBC News
The
night's other pivotal moment was a tribute to the music-loving victims of the
tragedies in Manchester and Las Vegas.
Handwritten
notes bearing the names of the dead were projected on the stage as country
music stars Maren
Morris, Eric Church and Brothers Osborne performed Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven, lined up on stools for
a very simple, stark and powerful rendition of the song.
All
three acts played at the Route 91
festival last October before a gunman opened fire on the audience, killing
58.
"All of country music was reminded in the
most tragic way the connection we share with fans and the loving power that
music will always provide," said Eric Church, choking back tears.
"We wanted to come together and honour the
memory of the beautiful, music-loving souls so cruelly taken from us,"
added Morris.
